    Lest we forget,

He was the Greatest manager of our era. A fine custodian of the
ethereal game. His tactics were those of a genius, his words those of
Solomon, his strength that of Jason. How he hast been wronged. Shame
Shame and thrice Shame I cry. How could they just cast aside in such a
callous manner this fine servant of a Nation.

I hope they stick by their commitment to radical changes in the set-up

So Turnip head gets the chop & our Big Jack goes from strength to strength.
There is a rumour that we will be playing England in a friendly before the
world cup but I would imagine that we would need tougher opposition in the
run-up to the finals.....Wales or Scotland or France would do nicely.

anyone see that poor man on Channel 4 last night. I never knew that he
could say such bad words. Naughty man....for a few seconds I almost
pitied him. The best bit was when he told the linesman near the end of
the 'Holland v England' game that the ref would be the cause of him
getting the sack. Nothing about throwing away silly points in
Wembley or his crazy selections or the naff performances in Poland and
    Norway.

This fella was a sad case. Good luck to England without him.
    Ray

Yeah, I saw it. The thing that got me was Phil Neals performance as
head 'yes' man. All he did was sit there and repeat what Taylor had
    already said........

Taylor came across as a man without any confidence in his own decisions
    at all to me.

    Dave...
326.15I was almost sorry for him.. but I resisted!!! :-)MARVIN::MORRELLTue Jan 25 1994 12:029
Wow.. there was so much back biting in the England team.... no wonder
we didn't qualify... if as much time was spent concentrating on winning
the matches as there was on slagging each other off then we would have
qualified no problem. I must admit I did like the bit where Carlton
Palmer was pretending to be Taylor and telling Gazza what was wrong
    with him!!! :-)

Well, call me a softy, but I did feel sorry for Taylor. The guy was a poor
manager and no mistake, but you can't deny that he wasa a fairly decent bloke
all the same. I find it stunning that reporters can sit in those press
conferences and exchange banter and then stick knives in him like they did.

If you ask me, I think a lot of the blame should be lifted from the shoulders of
Graham Taylor and dumped on the FA committee. I mean, seriously, what a bunch of
old gits. Peter Swales is more like a character from an Alfred Hitchcock movie
than a football fan, and as for that twonk who said he was worried about Paul
Gascoigne's standard of behaviour (rather than his football, fitness, or
anything else even mildly relevant). Blimey, what can you say?

Graham Taylor messed up, but so have a lot of managers. Bobby Robson was
similarly loathed by the press and public, until he managed to scrape through
the round robin stage of the last world cup, fluke his way past Belgium with a
last minute goal, and beat Cameroon despite being completely outplayed.

He can take over at Donny any day of the week for me. Just as long as he doesn't
buy John Barnes...

Love to take you up on your offer Mike. Where abouts are you based?
Ray Wright from our office hops back and forth to the UK every couple
of weeks so maybe he could pick it up? Otherwise it would be a question
of sending it out to us. Whatever, I'm sure we can arrange something in
exchange (how would you like a video'd interview with Ray Hodgson - in
Deutsch of course, or better still, some video footage of Jerry
    learning to ski!)

326.24An Impossible Job - He should try Finance!!!!!!PIECES::63585::SWIFFENTue Jan 25 1994 12:3733
i thought it was the second best laugh on TV last night,
after Coronation Street obviously!!

I must admit I thought better of Taylor after it, he picked
some crap teams and the Norway and Holland match brought
back some bad memories, but at least the programme showed
in exactly the same light as millions of us down the pub
saying the exact same things. One thing that did worry me
was that in the Norway match, he saw the defence was getting
ripped to pieces, yet did nothing about it until it was too
late. He also said the same things we all did about Des
Walker yet still continued to play him. Cracked me up
though when things were at their worst and all he seemed
worried about was what the papers were going to say.

Phil Neal - Cracking servant for Liverpool, but thank god they
chose Dalglish and not him to be manager, he must be the biggest
YES man in the business, I would like to know what he actually
contributed to the set up. Lawrie occasionally let himself go,
but very rarely - loosen up big man!!

The reporters were shown up in their true light, they all sit in
the same room, having quite a laugh, then they all go outside,
ask each other what they thought and then write the same story.
Easy Life if you can get it!!

Liked the bit also when the guy from Today got the **** ripped
out of him, in front of all his mates!!!!!!!!

Brilliant stuff Graham, at least last night showed that he did
care, even though he obviously made huge blunders!

Chris.

I saw it, he really is an arsehole..The F.A have spent months looking
into Terry Venables, if they had spent more time before appointing
Taylor they would have found a man who wasn't up to the job from the
start... What can you say about Phil Neal he was embarrasing..As for
the meeting at the F.A it was more like a monthly get together of the
    Chelsea Pensioners.....

I found myself stood up swearing at the referee in the Holland vs England
game after failing to send off Koeman.

Another amusing bit was Nigel Clough looking totally bemused at the
instructions given by Taylor. "Stand in front of the middlefield son,
go out and do it..play your bit, son. Do what`s best" etc.

re last. Have to agree, poor Nigel Clough looked like a startled rabbit
before he went on and I can't believe he understood what Taylor was
    going on about!

Taylor, McMenemy and Neal were like the Marx brothers sat on the bench
together in Poland, it was hilarious. Neal surely must have worked in
Margaret Thatcher's cabinet at some point.

That famous Channel 4 program about Taylor's time as manager of England
has been released on video. It's called	`Do I Not Like That' and it
has a beautiful orange coloured box.

Apparently it's selling like hot cakes over here. Get it while it's
hot. If you missed it first time I would highly recommend it.
