566.0. "Autograph Cards of Stars" by POWDML::GASPARONI () Thu Jul 01 1993 21:01

    Anyone see the autograph card promo in the Sunday Coupon section of the
    paper last Sunday. For $5.00, and a couple of UPC's you can buy
    a card with the autographs of Banks, Catfish Hunter, Stargell, Brooks
    Robinson, or someone else, I cannot remember. Anyway, they say they
    are 15 to 20 dollar values. What seems to be the best autograph for
    the  money??

    Drysdale was included too... They're $5 per autograph and any
    combination of upc's from Nabisco products (Chips Ahoy, Ritz crackers,
    Oreo's, etc)...

    Mmmmmmmm, Oreo's....    :-)

    With all due respect to the tragic event of the weekend, buy as many
    Drysdales as you can.

    There were 2500 Drysdale's autographed and they will be sold as if
    nothing had happened.

    If you are refering to the NABISCO offer. They are sold out of
    Drysdale. My brother works for them and he couldn't even get 1.

    Figures that even the Scum-bag dealers have infiltrated the Nabisco
    Promotional headquarters and scooped up all the Drysdale's autographs.
    How could this happen? There is no way that they distributed all
    2500 that fast. People can't eat that many cookies that fast. Some
    dealer like Gerry Elis (Building 19 3/4 fame) must have come in there
    and bought out all the auto's for a good price. I can't imagine the
    people who work there even know who Drysdale is, so what do they care.

    Think so? 2500 for a national FREE promotion? I wouldn't think it
    would take very long...
566.8Free?POWDML::GASPARONIThu Aug 12 1993 12:557
    First, its not free, $5.00 plus 5 UPC's, and those cookies go for about
    $2.00 per box. So thats about what the autograph is worth anyway when
    you figure postage and running back and forth to the store and buying
    the stuff. To be sold out during the first month of the promotion
    seems hard to believe to me even if its a National Promotion. Somebody
    got in there and scooped them up. Anyway, looks like Brooks Robinsion
    will be my choice now.
566.9AWECIM::MCAULIFFEThu Aug 12 1993 13:4410
    I think it's $5 plus 2 UPC's.  Also, I thought they had 5000 autographs
    of each player, including Drysdale.

    Not sure where I heard this, but I thought they were going to limit the
    Drysdale card (and any of the other 4 or 5 cards) so that more people had
    a reasonable chance to get one. Anything like this listed on the boxes??
    I'm also pretty sure it said that if they were out of the player you
    requested, that they would substitute one from the remaining list.

566.112500 is the count.KAOS::STOLLThu Aug 12 1993 19:434
    According to my brother, who is a marketing rep for NABISCO, the
    count on Drysdale was 2500. If you sent in for Drysdale and you
    were not lucky enough to be 1 of the first 2500 requests, you will
    be sent a substitute selected by whomever opens your letter.

    According to an article in SCD, NABISCO said Drysdale did 25,000 auto-
    graphs. Sounds like a lot to sign. 2,500 sounds more like feasible.

    If its 25,000, no wonder he dropped dead! His hand cramped up, and
    formed a blood clot that stopped the blood to his heart. Has anyone
    got any autographs back yet from this promo yet??

My brother got his Drysdale card in the mail on Saturday. He sent
in his request a couple days after Don's death.

Nice card.

566.17Nothing yet.SALEM::DODAWelcome to AmerikaWed Sep 29 1993 16:459
I sent out my order about 1-2 wks after my brother.
Still nothing.

BTW, my brother's Drysdale card came with an order form for more
cards. Drysdale was marked as OUT OF STOCK on it.

I keep waiting, at least my Yoo-Hoo set came in the other day...

Well, I got my "response" in the mail yesterday.

FWIW, I ordered 5 cards, 2 Drysdales. I figured that since the
form stated that substitues would be sent if the Drysdale was
sold out, I'd give it a a shot.

Yesterday, I got back, my check, my order form, my POP's and a
letter stating that the Drysdale card was unavailable. NONE of
the other cards were sent. I have to fill out the new order form
and send them back in again. Oh, and I got a .50 off coupon for
Nabisco products....

They did provise a SASE to send the form back in. I sent it out
this morning.

I sent the original request in on 7/24.

Oh and BTW, if you used the form that came in the coupon
circulars, you used the wrong zip code and it probably delayed
the mail by a week. My envelope, which was returned, had the zip
crossed out and the SASE has the same address, but a totally
different zip. The ad had the wrong zip.

Won't be surprised if I get none of them back this time, although
I did make a note on the ad asking for any other player if one of
my choices is gone.

Finally got my cards in the mail yesterday.

I ordered 2 Hunters, 1 Ernie Banks, and 2 Brooks Robinson cards.

I received them all.

When I was removing one of the Robinson cards from the card
sleeve, I found an extra card. So I got a free Robinson card.

Only took 5 months....
