363.0. "The Immortal Roll set of 84 cards value?" by KOBAL::SCHOTT () Wed Dec 04 1991 00:15

    I am having trouble determining the value of some cards that I found
    mixed in with my Topps Football Cards. Here's a description:

    Put out by : Fleer Corp. Phila, PA. 19141
    which is printed on the back.

    They are a set of 84 total cards (they all say xx of 84 on the backs)
    and are black and white photos of old timers with a brown trim. They
    are larger than regular cards. (Same Width, but about a 1/2 inch
    taller). The title on the bottom of them says, The Immortal Roll,
    used with permission of pro football hall of fame. I think they must
    be from right around 1970-73 time frame since that what most of the
    box contained. Some of the players included (that I have) are:
    Otto Graham, YA Tittle, Norm Van Brocklin, Dan Reeves, Roosevelt Brown.

    They are not listed in Becketts 92 Football Edition. At least I can't
    find them.

363.1Fleer Hall of Fame setAWECIM::MCAULIFFEWed Dec 04 1991 15:2918
    I have an old copy of the Sport Americana Football book (1983) here
    at work. It says that in '74 and '75, Fleer produced sets of cards
    called the 'Fleer Hall of Fame' set. The 1974 set contained 50 cards,
    the '75 set has 84 (Fifty of the cards in this set are exactly like the
    cards of the '74 set, except for the number listed on the backs of the
    cards).

    The cards are slightly bigger than regular cards, 2 1/2" x 4". From
    a black and white picture shown in the book, it looks like the players
    picture takes up 2/3 of the front of the card, with some quick info
    on the player listed underneath. Below that, it has the words:
    "The Immortal Roll". The backs look like it is black type on white,
    listing additional info about the player. It does have number xx of
    84 on the back with Fleer Corp listed on the bottom.

    I have the check list here, let me know if you need it...

    That sounds exactly like the ones. I'll post the card numbers I have
    and maybe you can post their value. I must have some from each year,
    since one set has an all brown border and the other has a brown border
    with a thin white border at the edge. I think I only have about 30
    or so and I would say they are in near-mint condition since they
    haven't been touched in 15 years (except last weekend when I put them
    in plastic). :^)

    THANKS!!!
