Has anybody sceen the new video game Super Mario Bros. ?
As Mario you go through an imagenary word trying to save your
princess.
There are many hidden 'surprises' and if anyone has played and or
found some of the surprises than leave a note. I would like to hear
anyone elses opinions or where the surprises are.

Yea...its a great game.

It seems like there are two versions out. One is the one that is
in its on "cabinet" the other is in the "play-ten" cabinet where
you can pick one of ten games to play. The one in the play-ten cab
is the same as the one availiable on cartridge for the Nintendo
game system. The one in the play-ten is easier then the other one.
If you have any questions on clus or hidden stuff send mail, I don't
want to put anything in here that people may want to find out for
themselves.

I guess I also have a problem putting the secrets in this notes
file.

My kids got Nintendo for Christmas and just yesterday made it
to the end of all the levels. Most things they actually found by
accident. From experience its just a metter of time before you find
everything the game has to offer.

If you need a list of things that you can find send mail.

Enjoy,

Re .1, .2:

If you do not want to spoil somebody's fun, you can put clues behind a
form-feed character, like this:
That way the reader has the choice of going on to a new response or
reading the spoiler. You should generally put a warning in front of
it, something like "Spoiler follows". In EVE (the default Notes
editor), you can enter a form-feed by pressing control-V and control-L.
In EDT, just press control-L.

Re .0:

I finished the home version a while ago, and I am waiting for a booklet
describing the game to arrive, to see if I missed anything. Some of
the things you can find are listed below. Let me know if you need
clues to find them.

Look for rooms below the regular level, coins in the clouds, a way for
large Mario to squeeze under bricks, "Warp Zones" where you can jump to
higher levels in the game, hidden bricks, and all sorts of places to
find mushrooms, flowers, stars, and many coins. One thing you should
do is jump in all sorts of places, even when you have no other reason
to.

Collen,

There are 8 worlds in Super Mario Bros. Princess Mushroom resides
in the castle in world 8-4. After world 4 the game becomes even
more difficult and challenging. Have you discovered the Warp Zones
yet? They are usually in the n-2 worlds and they allow you to skip
across worlds....enough so that you can defeat the princess by going
from World 2 to 4 to 8 real quick.

You get to the Warp Zone by jumping on top of the screen in world
2-N. In order to get to Warp Zone in 4-2 you must find some secret
hidden blocks which, when bumped, produce a beanstalk that you climb
up and brings you to a bunch of mushrooms that lead to a Warp Zone
that allows you to choose from Worlds 6, 7, or 8. When in 4-2 try
to find these hidden blocks...jump all over the place because remember,
they are hidden....I think you'll enjoy finding them yourself. If
you get real frustrated, send me mail and I will let you in on some
secrets that might help.

There are 8 worlds, with 4 sections in each but there are also other
lands. If you succsesfully defeat the Dragon in the 8th level you
can go to land B where you also get to pick what level you wish
to start at. But BEWARE every once mushroom turns into a Buzy Bettle.
(a Buzy Bettle is the small black slug that can not be killed by
fire)

Hint: on level 1-1 the fourth tube up is a passage to a gold room,
but try to avoid that ! Unless you have 4 Marios (or Luigi). Because
right after that tube you will notice two hills, between the two
hills, just slightly on the right hill if you jump up you will find
a 1-up mushroom. But get it quickly becouse it may run off inot
a pit!

It was $4.95 plus $2.00 shipping and handling (plus I had a $2.00
discount). I think the price was reasonable. I had already finished
the game, so the book was not a help with that, but it did tell me a
several interesting things I did not know already. If you have not

I don't suppose it would be a spoiler to tell you:

Each "level" is divided into 4 sub-levels, 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, then
2-1, 2-2, 2-3, 2-4, etc. Each x-4 level has a dragon to kill, after
which you get advanced to the next level. The various "warp zones"
move you from some middle sublevel to the -1 of the next level.

Now a specific spoiler:

The warp zone that goes to 2-1 is in 1-2.

To be more explicit, the normal worlds are 1-1, 1-2, . . . 2-1, . . .
8-4. There are also "negative" worlds which are probably the result of
bugs, which appear as -1, -2, and so on. They are probably boring, as
-1 seems to have no exit, but the search for them may be interesting
for a little while.

It just isn't there.

In Japan, they have found -1,-2,-3 and so on.
A reason we have not found them is that the game in Japan is not
identical to the one sold here. They us a different system too.
There's is called, I think, Famicom (somthing to that extent.) and
they have hundreds of games for it. If you have won Metroid you
may notice that it says somthing like converted by, or transverted

New topic, please. I don't know the game myself, but a friend has

After you jump onto the flagpole, and before you get into the castle,

To go up the vines! Now you will want to know where
the vines are and how you reveal them.

There are some blocks that when you hit them a vine
starts growing up into the sky. You can climb up these
vines to enter another part of the world. It's been
a while since I have played , I can't remember where
they are. Have fun finding them.

At the end of one of these vine worlds is a warp zone,
I think (?)

Ok, I am not much of a video game whiz, and just got the Nintendo.
Enough of disclaimers! I just got to a warp zone in the first
underground level. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to get
out or to do anything. 3 Pipes stuck out of the floor, labelled 2,3,
and 4. I jumped on top of them, kicked them, tried jumping out, to
no avail. I ended up running out of time. What should I have done?

12.30Bad cartridge?MDVAX1::MCGUIREMike McGuire, St. LouisMon Jan 18 1988 12:3820
I wonder if I have a bad cartridge? I first noticed that, at the
first turn-on of the unit, the music is at a much lower volume than
after it "warms up". I figured that I could live with that, but
my curoisity was piqued on world 4-2 (I believe). I did some strange
things, I guess, because at the point of the springboard, I jumped
down to it, and it disappeared! Little Mario stood where the top
of the springboard should be, and would only attempt to move left
or right. He couldn't jump, and since it was Little Mario, I don't
know if he could crouch. On world 6-2, there is a tunnel to go
swimming. At the end of the swim, at the opening of the exit tunnel,
Little Luigi suddenly moved to the right of the opening and stayed
there! As before, he would only appear to move left and right, no
jump, etc.

In both of these situations, the only recourse was to allow time
to run out, and proceed with the game. Is this a bug?

Thanks,

I have had the same occur on mine at the springboard, you can crouch

similar oddities when rushing through a screen quicker than it has

I think it might be the NES itself, I have had similar

second jump will make her bounce against the wall of the stairs and
come back. You got to be fast here, because when she comes back you
have to jump on her agin and again, without leting her come back too

I did it! Thanks to some help from rjk, I got it to work last night.
I warp-zoned from 1-2 to 3-1 and just kept getting myself killed each
time I blew it until it worked.

In simple terms, get big Mario past the first turtle and to the far
right of a step. Just as the 2nd turtle is 2 steps above you and about
to drop onto the step just above you, do a full height jump straight
up. If the turtle flips over and then slips out from under you, you
jumped too late. If the turtle touches you and turns you back to little
Mario, you jumped too soon.

Once the chain reaction begins, I just keep pressing the jump button
to keep Mario going. Sometimes he misses and falls back to the step.
If this happens, you just jump and the chain reaction begins again.

Word of caution!! I was building up lives last night and had built up
at least 150 with over 919,000 points. I was jumping on a turtle
getting lots of lives and I wanted to let time run out so I could just
continue at the middle of 3-1 and get some more practice and lives.

Well, while I was jumping on the turtle, time ran out. Instead of a
zillion lives and in the middle of 3-1, *GAME OVER*. Be aware of this!

Thanks to all,

The turtle was sliding and when he came upon the hammer throwing

I have got bad news for you; I believe there is a mushroom in 8-3,
right in a set of blocks defended by the hammer brothers. You
can kill them by staying on the bottom level and moving close to
them -- their hammers will go over you. When they jump up to the
first level, get under them and knock them off. Then go up to the
first level and hit the blocks on the second level; one of them
in one set has a mushroom.

Getting the hammer brothers on the ground is a problem unless you
have managed to remain fiery. One thing you can do if you are super
is just run right through them -- you will shrink but will then
be invulnerable long enough to continue through them.

RE: 8-3 and the HTT's

Possible spoilers

I usualy end up coming to 8-3 as little Mario and will not
finish it (ie. Die on purpose) unless I am Big and Fiery (the only way
I can get past 8-4). What I do for the first set of HTTs is to wait on the
pipe until they are bot of the ground. Then I go underneath and bounce them
off. If one is on the upper level of bricks get under him and wait for him to
fall down. If you time it right and jump so that he is just above the
lower level of bricks then he will die. If you happen to get stuck with one
of them on the bottom with you then just stay right next to him and wait until
he jump above. As some earlier said the hammers will go right over you. Once
you kill the HTTs there is a mushroom in the second brick to the right in the
top level of bricks. You have to hit it and run and jump has it falls into the
hole. It is tricky at first but once you get the timing down. Ohh yea, I usaly
use the super jump (hold b). Also when doing this once you get the the mushroom
during the jump push the controller to the left or else you will slide right off
the stairs and down the hole. The same basic approach works for the next set
of turtles. The only thing is not to go to far to the right because there is
a mushroom in the top bricks in the second mushroom to the left. ONce you
get the two mushrooms and you are a super firey mario the rest is a pice of
cake!! Including 8-4 once you figure out the maze.

Now to try the bouncing thr turtle for many lives trick!

We just got a Nintendo system a few weeks ago and SMB seems

8. Does everyone here who talks about world 8, warp to that
world? I like to go one world at a time and all levels of
that world. My daughter jumps at every chance to warp up in
worlds. Am I playing the game wrong, or is this just preference?
Love all the tips on this game. Also, has anyone every tried
walking the walls? Doesn't appear to do much for you, but my

Question #1

Has anyone successfully retreived the mushroom from the box
above the sweeping arm in World 1-4? I have dislodged it
several times, but I have never got it. I'm sure someone
must have done it. Is it easy? Perhaps I am letting the
situation psyche me. The first several times through there,
I would rush through, but then discovered that I am not so
rushed (i.e. there is actually time to stop and jump up to
loosen the Magic Mushroom).

Question #2

Has anyone won this game using the controllers that come with
the game?

Question #3

Has anyone got by the tinkertoy elevators/swinging arm on 2-4
without being reduced to regular Mario/Luigi? It is possible,
right??? I can do it only when I am Super Mario/Luigi!

Things I have found:

Note:	MM/FF means Magic Mushroom or Fire Flower depending on Mario's
(or Luigi's) condition when it is found.

2-4 1 0 0 0	Haven't got past dragon yet

3-1	Have been to these worlds, mostly because I got tired of being
3-2	done in on 2-4, but haven't discovered much.
3-3
4-1 <-	Just once because my son asked me to warp there instead of level
2 or 3, and was done in very quickly!!!

Regarding the hammer throwing turtles on 3-1 (I think - maybe it was 3-2
or 3-3 - It's all a blur now). I seem to recall that you can become Super
and Fiery Mario before reaching them, and their range is less than your's.
I just wait till they are on the ground, and fireball them. It usually
doesn't take too long. When I manage to botch my Fiery Mario/Luigi, I run
through fast, but now that I saw the hint that their hammers will go over
me at close range, I'll try that.

Re: .74 by VAXWRK::INGRAM "Larry Ingram" and the *GAME OVER* problem

Probably not a spoiler because it's been discussed many times, but
hidden anyway:

I was able to do the turtle trick on World 3-1 without going onto a step,
and doing it to the first turtle. I ran right until bumping into the
first step, waited for the right moment, jumped and the turtle stopped,
jumped again to start a chain reaction. When the second turtle arrived
it got bumped off and landed somewhere below my TV stand! I managed to
do this twice, and let time run out, and did not get the dreaded:

*GAME OVER*

.74>	Word of caution!! I was building up lives last night and had built up

.74>	Well, while I was jumping on the turtle, time ran out. Instead of a

Perhaps the number of lives is an eight bit value, and a value of 150 would
set the high bit making it negative. Do you know the difference between:

JB (jump below) /	Computer opcodes - at least on the
JL (jump less) /	Intel 8088 etc, and probably existing
JA (jump above) \	on whatever is in the Nintendo
JG (jump greater) \	Entertainment System

So, when Mario or Luiga buys the `big one', maybe the program does:

CMP LIVES,0	; Does this turkey get to play some more?
JG CONTINUE	; Yep.
JMP GAMEOVER	; Nope.

Some Infocom games had a similar problem in that they would complain that
you did not have enough memory to run their program even though you had
896K on your Rainbow, but would run fine on a machine with less than 512K.

I think what you say is probably the case. I originally thought that
the game over was caused by getting 1-ups while time ran out. Since
then, I've let time run out while getting 1-ups (with not too many
lives) and I don't get *Game over*. Sometimes I've gotten lots of
lives, continued on to the next level and got *Game Over* the next

Few questions:

1. How do you get the 1up Mushroom in 1-2 that's in the top row

A hint on getting the mushroom in 1-2:

Try being Super Mario. Right after you pop the 1 up mushroom out
of its hiding place, jump and break the bricks in front of it. You
must do this quick. The mushroom should then fall to the floor and
you can then pursue it easily.

If you do not want the entire Player's Guide, you can order "How to Win

information somewhere in this file, or call Nintendo at 800-422-2602.
(That gets you to an automated answering system; I'm not sure if you
can press buttons and get directly to somebody who will take your order
or if you will have to listen and then call another number.) It's only
a few dollars ($7 at most, perhaps cheaper?) and is complete.

To get the mushroom in 1-2, I usually knocked out the two blocks to its
left, so it was easier for me to get up there. I think the book
suggests knocking out the block in its right (by standing on the very
edge of the platform), and then making the mushroom come out. It falls
right to the floor.

For the birds, just practice.

12.119Hey, it's a game, remember?VOLKS::COOLIDGEBayard, N1HOThu Sep 01 1988 17:0419

Well from my perspective as a novice (like, no further than 1-3
in the first two weeks of trying, top score about 45k), it's
encouraging to see that it CAN be done. I picked up the NES Player's
Guide about a week after buying the Action Set. It blew my mind
as well as my wife's (top score 85k, level 1-4) that the book only
showed HALF of the entire game. Definitely a step up from our previous
video game, a Mattel Intellivision. (Please, keep the snickers down!).

So, aside from reading various tips/spoilers, it's fun to see that
other folks can and do get through it with some persistence and
patience. Hey, it's just a game, and designed for entertainment.
Again, although we're novices, we disagree with some other noters
about the bonus points at the flagpole. Kathy finds it easiest to
simply park (assuming there's a little time left) and wait for the
last digit to count down and jump as the 7 is changing to a 6. She
gets 6 fireworks and appropriate points everytime.

I CAN'T DO IT-I CAN'T DO IT-I CAN'T DO IT-I CAN'T DO IT

Every time I try the turtle trick on level 3-1, the turtle slips
right under me! Here's how I do it-

First I jump over the first turtle then go to the right edge of
the next step and wait. When the second turtle just starts to fall
to the step above me, I jump up and right a little. This makes
me hit the turtle (which makes him flip over) bounce up automatically,
and hit him again (which kicks him towards the right and he hits
the stair) then before I even come back down he's gone right under
me!
What am I doing wrong?

At the very end of the level, you pass two elevators, the first going

Hop on the top of one and press the down arrow. If there is a coin

Re .144:

I believe it is after the first set of moving platforms, although I am
not positive.

To find this spot, stop after the moving platforms. Simply stand on
the floor to the right of the moving platforms, at the edge of the
cliff (that is, where the floor resumes again after the chasm where the
platforms are). Jump straight up. Move right one square. Jump
straight up. Move right one square. Jump straight up. Do this at
most six times; you should find the blocks leading to the warp zone.

Of course, if you follow the above algorithm, you'll screw up your
chance to use the blocks. You'll see what I mean when you try it. But
this will reveal them so that the next time, you will be prepared to do
it correctly.

Warping is "cheating", except that it is okay after you have gotten to
the destination the normal way, by working through it. That is the
official Nintendo policy, soon to be made into a federal law.

After 8-4, the game starts over with everything the same except that
the enemies are a bit tougher.

I have some real 'beginner' questions....which I was hoping could
be answered by an expert out there...

1) In Super Mario, is there a way to 'save' the character? How does one
start the game in a differant 'world' than 1-1? I have done this
accidently, but have been unable to duplicate it, even though someone
has told me it can be done, she neglected to tell me how...

I have also been told that in this game, if, when attempting to
'grab the flag', you can jump over the pole you will double your
score....is this true????? I have been unable to 'jump' over the
flag pole, the most I have received is the 5000 points for 'riding'
the flag down....is my leg being pulled on this one????

Thanks for any advice.....

You can't actually 'save' him and walking away from the game for
a while. There is an alternative though.

Hold down the 'A' button on the controller while pressing 'START'
after you lose your last life. You will then start over in the
x-1 section of the world you died in. For example, if you die in
5-4, you'll start over in 5-1.

The minus worlds are the result of bugs. All that's known on the
American version is world -1, and it is not terribly interesting.
There is no way out of it.

Here are the instructions from the Fun Club News 1:2.

"With Super or Fiery Mario, stand on top of the horizontal green pipe
near the end of World 1-2. Break two of the overhead blocks leaving
the one nearest to the wall on the right intact. Standing on the left
edge of the pipe facing left, jump up and move right. Try to get the
back of your head stuck in the overhead block. Then move through the
wall and enter the far left Warp Zone pipe to get to World Minus One."

I'm looking for a spoiler for level 7-4. What pattern should

Re: 7-4 pattern, I just happen to figure it out 3 days ago, on to
level 8!

For the first pattern, after the lava sea, run below the first
structure, then go to the middle of the two bars, then jump to
the top of the next structure. You'll get to the next portion
right away.

I haven't narrowed it down exactly from there, but I believe I
took the 2nd portion "high" first, then "low" the 2nd time. It's
simply some pattern of high and low. It must not be difficult,
because I got by it quickly every time. It was the first section
that got me.

By the way, by "take it high", that means get past the fire-rod
by jumping over it. The next time, "take it low", which means
you jump to the little island in the middle and go under the rod.

If anybody has an exact pattern to the 2nd part, let me know.

I struggled with 7-4, too. As stated, the first section is LOW, MIDDLE,
HIGH. This part was easy for me.

I'm not sure, but I think the way I was able to do the second part was
to go HIGH, drop LOW, then go to the MIDDLE, until you get to the end
of the MIDDLE route, and you have to go HIGH or LOW. At this point, go
HIGH.

Hope this helps.

12.179Questions on 8-3 and 8-4SALEM::ALIZIOTue Feb 07 1989 19:1025

My nine year old son is on the verge of making it to 8-4, I think.
From what I've read in here there are four sets of HTT's. Is that
it? He usually makes it past the first three sets, and the first
HTT of the fourth set, then bites the dust. Gathering from what
I've reda about 8-3, he must be pretty close to the end. What
comes after the fourth set of HTT's?

Regarding 8-4. Is it true that once you make it to 8-4, that you
can restart at that level after exhausting your lives? I assume
that you don't use the A start trick at that point as that would
bring you back to 8-1 wouldn't it? Can someone describe the method
od restarting on 8-4? Thanks.

BTW, I have been able to answer most of his questions by just searching
through these notes. And it has helped him immensely. He still can't
do that turtle trick at the end of 3-1 though. But, from what I've
read, it is possible to complete 8-4 without having a tremendous
amount of lives. It just takes a bit longer, that's all.

Willie thanks all of you for your contributions.

Regards,

Paul,

The water world in 8-4 is relatively short. Once you make it out
you are practicly at the end. There is a Hammer Thrower that you
need to land on to kill. After that leap across the lava pit, and
you are at the "DRAGON", but watch out for his hammers.

There isn't any way to re-start except at the beginning of which
ever world you died at (ie 7-1, 8-1, etc).

The only thing you can't jump on and live at the warthogs.
Those are the yellow-orange creatures spit out by the stay-puff
marshmellow cloud. (Get the feeling I don't know the names
of these guys?). The HTTs (hammer throwing twerps) are difficult
without fire power because you die (or become small) if one touches
you. But, yet, you can kill them if you jump on them and he's
not throwing a hammer at the moment.

> A dragon...with hammers? Have they no mercy? Does it have flames
> also? That's bad enough by itself, but hammers too!

Yup, complete with flames ...

Here are some of the hints on 8-4, most of which have already been
stated earlier. Good luck!

-- Jim

To find your way through the maze, always go down the first
tube after a lava pit (excluding the pit at the base of the
stairs which you start 8-4 on). That will get you to the
end with lots of time remaining. Note that the tube in the
air is more difficult, bumt there's an invisible block between
the lava and the tube. Jump up and there's your staircase.

In the world with the "bees" (flying something-or-others),
just run very fast (hold B button) and you'll get to the
lava pit before they do, usually, and they won't bother you
at all.

Then there's the water world. I found that when you get to the
first 2 or 3 fire arms, go over them instead of under them, and
the squids generally don't bother you. When I tried to go under,
I paused and the squids seemed to gang up on me.

When you get past the water world (it's not very long), you're
at the end. There's only an HTT (hammer throwing twerp) and
the dragon (bowser?) to get by. To get by the HTT, just wait
at the left hand edge of the tube you just came up. In about
10-20 seconds he'll stop throwing hammers and take a few steps
towards you. Super jump over him. Run towards the dragon to get
the HTT off the screen.

Now you've got the hammer throwing dragon, a fire arm(?), and
some fire balls spewing out of the lava. The only way I've
beaten the dragon was to time it right and jump between the
hammers. Good luck!

P.s. I don't believe there is any way to grow to super mario in
8-4. 8^(

When you beat the dragon, you get to listen to these words from the
rescued princess:

12.185Coin Room Worlds 4+RICKS::SATOWFri Feb 10 1989 14:5028
I just completed 5-4 last night, and I have a problem that really bothers me.

There is a coin room that appears frequently from world 4 on. Ten of the
coins are well above the floor, with bricks under them, almost like a room
within a room. A crude diagram of the relevant parts is below.

I can collect the "ten up" coins just above the drainpipe exit, and if I am
Super or Fiery, I can collect five of the coins by jumping up from points `Y'
and breaking bricks, but I can never get the other five.

The "How to Win ..." book says to jump out of the room run across the "roof",
and try to jump into the "room with in a room" from point `X', but I haven't
been able to accomplish that. I have no trouble getting to point X, but I
haven't been able to get to the coins. Anybody have any `spoilers'?

Well, all I can tell you is that it CAN be done, and I've done it
myself a couple of times, and I'm a relatively poor player. As you
indicated in your sketch, you have to work your way over to the
little perch in the upper left hand corner and then jump with some
forward motion into the 'suspended closet' (for lack of a better
term). Once you're in there, you can hop around and collect all
10 coins. I don't seem to recall there being much of a difference
between being large or small; they're equally aggravating. I'll
ask my wife when I get home tonight and find out how she does it.
One thing to be careful about is the clock. Unless you want to trash
a run to practice this, you probably can't get in more than one attempt
in without running out of time, unless you're *very* good and have
gone through the preceding part of that level very quickly and feel
confident that you can 'run' through the rest of it before time
expires on you.

Thanks for the info, Jim. It's a real help to know what to expect
within a certain level. Unfortunately KNOWING what pitfalls lie
ahead, doesn't guarantee that you can safely navigate through them!

That dragon sounds like a real beauty. I think my son will probably
have to sacrifice a few Marios before he masters that part. Do you
have to start back at the beginning of 8-4 when you die there (assuming
you have more lives left) or do you start part way through?

possible spoiler...
I've beaten it as Super Mario and Little Mario. Super is easy,
I just shot him with fire balls that I got in 8-3. As Little Mario,
the dragon seems to never breathe fire while throwing hammers.
I would run up so that I'm next to the dragon, the hammers go right
over you. As soon as he stops throwing, jump over the dragon as
quickly as possible and you've won.

re: .180
I found using the spoilers earlier in this entry, entering level
8 after warping through 3-1 and collecting mucho lives (100+), you
have sufficient lives to map out the 8-x levels.
A different approach I've found on 8-4, after the short swim
you surface from a pipe, go quickly to the next pipe, and just up
on the closest edge after the parana plant goes down. Watching the
timing of the hammer thrower till you can anticipate the pause,
it's easier to run and super-jump the turtle, imediately reversing
your direction to stay close enough to the turtle so the hammers
fly over you. Getting there, you only need to time when to run
and super jump to your final challenge.

Now I'm resting the SMB I and working on SMB II
Is there a note on this game ? I'm only getting to 4-2 now,
and found 1 warp so far. Spoilers would be appreciated.

I'd consider using the warp at the end of 4-2 which goes to 5, or
the one in the middle of 4-2 (after the first elevator) which will
take you to 6, 7, and 8.

12.1964-3 help ...ATSE::MORGANSilence, the sound of peaceThu Mar 02 1989 17:0233

Re: Help on level 4.3:

It took me a long time, but I eventually got all the way through to
4.3 without knowing the two "tricks" of restarting at the beginning
of the level nor warping. But 4-3 got me every time! I usually
don't read directions, and didn't figure I'd need to in this game.
I was wrong, and 4-3 is the first time you need the directions for
a particular feature ...

Not much of a spoiler, but hidden none the less.

I never needed to "super jump" or "run fast" before 4-3. However,
the jump after killing the 2 "ducks" is too far to get past without
it. You need to press "B" and "forward" to run fast, and this will
"super jump" you onto the next level. After that, 4-3 is easy.

If that's not where you are stuck, let me know and I'll try to
see where you are having trouble.

For those that can't remember the different levels, 4-3 is the one
with the red and orange polka-dot platforms.

One other piece of advice: There's one place where going after the
coins is a bad idea, because it causes the elevator-on-a-rope to
go all the way to the top, and it's hard (but not impossible) to
jump to the up-and-down girder from the platform.

Good luck!

A lot of people put in notes on how to get through the "combination"
required for level 7-4. I put in a note earlier about how to get past
the first section and how I thought you get by the next. I thought it
was some combination of going over and under the fire-arm. That wasn't
right. You can get through both parts in one path each ...

Here's the way through 7-4. How to get by the dragon is another
story, but this should give you about 300 on the clock to think
about it!

-- Jim

The first is easy, and it's been said before:

Jump onto and past the two falling elevators.

Run under the first block, then up one at the two lines
and finally up to the top of the third and you've made it
through the first section. Roughly, it looks like this:
............
......  +--------+  ======= .+---------+
+-+ . | | ........ | |
| |  .+--------+ .=======  +---------+
| | ...........
--------------------------------------------------

You'll see a fire arm, and a lava pit. That's how you know
you've made it past the first section.

The next isn't so easy, there's more possibilities.

To get through the second section, jump up and go OVER the
fire arm. Just run fast and you don't have to worry about
falling. Stay on top past the long stretch. Then go down
to the bottom under the first two bars, between the next
two, on top of the third set, and stay on top jumping onto
the next long block. Again, it looks like this:

.................. ................
.== == == +-------+. ===  === .===  +-------+
. / | |. .... | |
/      +-------+ .=== .===  ===  +-------+
....
- _ ---------------------------------------------
~~ ~~ <--lava

Now try to get past the hammer throwing, fire spitting dragon!
Good luck, hope this helps!

I'm trying to determine whether I've finished SMB I yet, or
not. I've heard that after saving the princess the fourth time,
the game is won. I heard this after I aborted the game in my 4th
pass, the first time I tried to win, thinking the game never ended.
Recently I ran through 4 times, and after pressing "B", then "START"
on the 4th pass, I was on Level 2-1???
On my 2nd,3rd, and 4th pass this sequence had started me on
Level 1-1 (B-World), allowing me to stop at 3-1 to collect some
extra lives.
1) Is there and end to this Game?
2) Am I restarting my secondary passes incorrectly?

I found SMB II was obviously completed after WART was properly feed,
and can't believe SMB I could have such a worthless ending.

okay,
I was mis-informed then, after 8-4 you're asked to press "B"
to select a world. Selecting "A" then start, continues you at 8-1
B World, or selecting just start continues you at 1-1 B World. Sounds
like my next SMB I challenge would be reaching the FEATURELESS

After saving the princess ( er,... again ) I was in the second quest
last evening and while in 3-1, I was standing on the portion that
allows you to bump the block and climb the vine to get the coins
in the clouds. I noticed that the usual 'trampoline' that is to
the left of this set of blocks was just about a 1/3 of a block
high and there was no trampoline to be seen at all. Very strange
I thought. So, I jumped down and onto the 'missing' trampoline and
found myself hopelessly stuck in that position. No button(s)

Yes, I have seen this before. I think what has happened is that you
accumulated so many lives, that you wrapped the lives counter in the
game around and had the negative bit (high order bit) turned on. The
next time you die, the machine checks to see if you still have >0 lives
left (and you don't because the counter has gone negative) and you die.

My only suggestion is to no accumulate *too* many lives. Too much of
a good thing...

Conquering 8-4 takes practice and patience. I'll give you a quick hint
on what I do. First be consistent when you reach the draw bridge where
the real bowser is. In other words, don't try to jump him one time
and run under him another time. Try the same thing all the time. What
I do is reach the draw bridge and then sprint (no jumping). Usually,
old boswer head jumps up and I run under him. I jump once I reach the
axe to drop the bridge and watch the silly turtle fall.

Good luck!

What I like of SMB is that every lower level seems to show you tricks
that will be useful at the higher levels.

I have a good (I think) progress report. I can now reach consistently
up to 6-3 (no warping, no 3-1 turtle trick). 6-4 was such a pain
that I got tired of doing 6-1 6-2 and 6-3 just to get (the 4 lives)
killed quickly in 6-4. So I went for the 3-1 turtle trick and finally
conquered (as opposed to mastered) 6-4. Funny thing, 7-1, 7-2, 7-3
and 7-4 wasn't that hard after all, so I decided to try the 8's,
and managed to do 8-1 (but with almost no time left). 8-2 is now
my problem, and I need more practice in 6-4 and the 7's, but I can
see that the real dragon is not too far away.

I got so I could do that pretty well. My technique is to NOT use the `B'
button. Take a running start, and jump (once again not using the `B' button),
at the last possible moment and jump again as soon as you hit the narrow
center (sorry, but I spell it American style) block. The length from the edge
to the center block seems to be about the maximum you can jump without using
the `B' button. Whenever I use the `B' button, I miss the center block.

In 8.1 the only jump that needs pressing the B (super speed/jump)
is the wide one, where you have to be careful with the 3 brown
things (goombas?) after the jump. All the other jumps, including
the one with the very narrow rest in the middle are better done
without the B button. They do require a "running start".

Yves, .228 "the turtle trick"

I never flip the turtle over when getting the extra points.
The way I do it is to wait a little longer, and jump up when
the turtle is on the stair right above me. When I come down
from that first jump. he slides over and hits the stairs.
That causes Mario to "bounce" a little upward, and without
me touching the jump button, he hits the turtle sliding back
towards me.

Sometimes the chain reaction happens only once, giving me 100pts,
other times it will continue and get a bunch of 1-ups! If it
fails, Mario goes back to the step, and I usually go back up
against the right hand edge of the step and jump up again.

Good luck! It's really fun!

have been unable to get to the negitive world.

First is the horizonal pipe the one that is shaped like a backward L?
that leads to the staircase in 1-2? (Also the same one above which allows
you to warp to 2, 3, or 4?

Second, how to you get marios head to stick in the brick? Do you B jump
or do a regular jump? I have had Marios head go thru the brick, but no
stick in it. Also how do you move thru the wall. First there is the pipe

Whoa! Hold on there, pardner....Mario's head sticking into bricks?
Going thru walls? Negative worlds??? What version of SMB do you have,
anyway???

I've been playing SMB for a couple of years (since it came out) and I
can't figure out what you're asking...

You may be the victim of a hoax, friend. As far as I know, there are
eight world, each with sub-worlds 1-4 which you get to be completing
each successive world. You also have the option of warping to various
worlds, but each one starts you at *.1 level of that world...

No one I know has stuck Mario's head in bricks or gone thru any walls,
and many of these folks have played thousands of housr, and know almost
every trick there is about the game...and no one seems to really know
anything about the so-called negative worlds...

If anyone out there in Notes.land has some hard evidence about these
worlds and actions, please describe it in empirical terms so that we
can test the theory. Until then, I think you're being hoodwinked!

There are indeed negative worlds, and world -1 is reached by jamming
Mario's head into bricks and going through a wall. The following
description is originally from Nintendo Fun Club News Volume 1 Number 2
(a newsletter which has been replaced by Nintendo Power); I entered it

So far, we have only been able to get to World Minus One, but we know
of Worlds Minus Two, Three, and Four from our buddies in Japan. Have
you found them? Try this. With Super or Fiery Mario, stand on top of
the horizontal green pipe near the end of World 1-2. Break two of the
overhead blocks leaving the one nearest to the wall on the right
intact. Standing on the left edge of the pipe facing left, jump up and
move right. Try to get the back of your head stuck in the overhead
block. Then move through the wall and enter the far left Warp Zone to
get to World Minus One.

OK, edp, I'll give it a try as soon as I can...

If it works and delivers me to a world which I've never seen
I'll apologize profusely! If it doesn't...I'll send Koopas
to your house!!!

Actually, I do know of one place in SMB where Super Mario can move thru
brick walls but it doesn't amount to much...as you come down in 4.2 you
have to jump across a couple of chasms, then if your little Mario you
can enter a 'tunnel' sort of place and jump up to get a growth
mushroom. If, after you jump up, you move to the far left of the creen
and let the mushroom come to you, you'll grow into the bricks. If you
start jumping immediately, you'll break thru them. If you don't jump
after you become Super, the game will slide you over to the right.

Other than this place, I haven't found anywhere that Mario can actually
go through bricks or get his head stuck. I'm anxious to try this new
trick!

Well, I tried and my 13 year old tried for a long time last
night and we could not execute the manuver necessary to enter
the negative world. We jumped numerous times but were unable
to "stick our head" into the block on the right. Is there a
different version of SMB than the one that comes with Duck Hunt ?
Is The horizontal pipe that Mario stands on the one that leads
to world 1-3 ? It was very frustrating after reading the directions
for this and then not being able to accomplish it. Anymore tips on
how to reach this mythical -1 world would be appreciated.

I first saw this trick done on my system (I have the SMB/Duckhunt
cart) by a ten year old kid. We were trading tricks and he said
have you seen how to get to the minus world?.......Anyway, after
reading the past few replies and watching the ten year old, I have
been able to get to world -1 just about every time. BTW, the first
tube takes you to world -1, the second tube warps you to world 5,
and if you try to go into the third tube, it will turn the tubes
into the entrances to worlds 2,3, and 4.(thus defeating the purpose
of the whole exercise)

You have to be on the tube facing left.(Yes this is the L-shaped
tube at the end of world 1-2). Make sure you "B-jump" first before
you use the direction pad to move Mario to the right. This is the
only way you can jump to the right and still have Mario facing left
when he hits his head on the brick.

I asked the kid if he knew the "turtle trick" and he said "Sure
I know how to do it, but I don't have to..."

I will try again tonight to reach -1 world but we tried the B-jump
many-many times and all that happens is that the back of Mario's
head hits the side of the block and then he slides off and falls
back down on the pipe. Of course we miss every now and then and break
the block !!! I must have hit the block 50 times before the timer
ran out during one session and always with the back of his head
but he never sticks !!!!! Probably if I saw someone do it, I would
go "Oh yeah, that's easy" and then be able to duplicate it. I'm
starting to get caught up in METROID now though so SMB will go back
in the box for a while. Also getting FAXANADU in the mail so Mario
may take a summer vacation !!!

I agree with .-1, I've tried many times and either roll off the right hand
block, or bust it. Please clarify one detail. Are we trying to hook the back
of Mario's head on the right hand block near the top of the L-pipe? Does his
head go up along the left side of the block and then we try to move him right
for a hook? Or do we try to push his head up unto the block with his raised
fist grazing the left side of the block.

I realize that these may be fine points, but I can't get Mario to 'stick'.

I have indeed gotten to -1, twice! Out of about 300 attempts!! So the

BTW this is a cartridge with SMB and DH. Perhaps people that do manage it

Perhaps there is a connection there.

My wife, the SMB junkie, has worked her way to world 8-2

She has tried the jump using the run and jump from both 1 and 2

Hi Lee

I don't think there is a spoiler for this. You have to be real quick
with the B-Run (fast run). I seem to remember doing it from #2. The
key is to jump at the very last possible second.

She may want to try it from the platform to the left of #1. In some
spots you can B-run right over small openings, without falling in.
I forget if it was possible in this particular location. If it is
though, she would start to the left of #1, B-run and jump at the last
second at the right edge of #2.

I think there are two possibilities. One, start from to the left of 1.
Hold down B and run. You can run across the two gaps and then jump
from 2 while running. The second possibility is to jump from the top
of the platform/ridge to the left of 1 -- stand on its left, run, and
jump.

If those don't work, let me know; I'll look it up in the hint book.

3- Lure the dragon out to you then jump over him. Then he will turn

All you gotta do is, when you get over the top and onto the first

motion, then, at the very edge of the second cliff, push a to jump.
Don't worry about falling off the edge of the first cliff, either

Well, I was worng. There is no ledge next to the pipe. It
actually goes like this:

I tried pressing B and running, starting from the far left side of
the pipe, but I fell between the pipe and the 1st ledge.

Is it just a matter of hitting the first ledge just right, or am I

Hi,

Sorry, got carried away with the level 8-2 problem, anyway,
5-4 is similar to 3-4 in the sense that you have elevators.
As I see it, there are 2 ways you can do it, 1) is to time
yourself so that you can go up one elevator, jump to the other
(go down) and at the right moment, jump from the elevator,
missing the flaming, spinning arm, and get past. or 2) You can
ride the elevator up, jump across to the down, and then (if timed)
jump up to the top of the wall on the side of the elevator going
down. I prefere number 2, so that you miss the flaming/spinning
arm. either way, once you get passed it, you must watch. There are
in the next screen, coins surrounded by another flaming/spinning
arm. This one you have to jump over.

Hope this helps you

Can someone help? are there any other vines other than the ones in 4-2?
Also, any hints on flipping over the turtles in 3-1? i've already read
all the notes and nothing works.

Are there any mushrooms in 8-4?

One more question. I've heard about getting coins in the clouds? I'm up
to 8-4 and thought I had found coins everywhere, but not in any clouds.

Now that I'm almost ready to save the princess, I want to know if I've
seen all of the surprises.

1-up mushrooms in 1-1,1-2,3-1,4-1,8-1,8-2
mushrooms/flower in 1-1,1-2,3-1,4-1,4-2,8-3
star in 1-1,1-2,3-1,8-1

Since I warp all the way through (except when I want to try to flip
trutles in 3-1) I only need to know about worlds 1,3,4, and 8.

Thanks. Found the vine in 2-1 and 3-1, but I never saw one in 6-1.
Also, I found a 1-up somewhere in 6, but I can't find it anymore.
why is it that you can't always get the 1-ups? For example, when I warp
from 2-4 I can get the 1-up in 4-1 but when I go from 3-4 it's not
there. Neither is the one in 3-1 when I go from 2-3, it's only there
when I go from 1-3.

Thanks for the info. One thing that has always bothered me - why is it
that when you are jumping up to hit a brick for coins, i.e. in 1-1
after the very first jump, the A button doesn't always work. It seems
that unless you click that button very fast and hard, you hit the brick
but don't get a coin, you just hear a bouncing noise. Maybe it's just

12.304OLD BUT MAYBE OF SOME INTERESTFUTURE::DWILLIAMSfaces called flowersFri Jan 10 1992 17:2840
Yeah, I know, an old note entry! But some people have just been
exposed to Super Mario (we got our first Nintendo Game this Christmas and
neither my wife nor I have ever played with any computer games before).

I am the ultimate novice at the moment - having mastered 1-1
through 1-3 and being able to get through 1-4, 2-1 and 2-2. One or two
things not mentioned or explained in these wonderful hints (after the form
feed):

. in World 1-2, to get the 1-up every time (you must be SM or FM)
1. hit all the coins after the third turtle and the
MM/FF/1000 Point flower just before the ravine

2. jump up and over to the last bank of coins

3. with Mario's right foot (left as you look at him)
on the last brick, jump up and break the overhead
wall

4. retreat to the left a little bit and wait for the
three mushrooms to pass beneath you (you can kill
all three if you're positioned correctly and a
good shot with FM)

5. jump up and dislodge the 1-up mushroom and it will
fall to the floor EVERY TIME

. to change from SM to FM in World 1-4:

. jump up and hit the question mark box above the
first "fiery windmill" and then quickly jump to the
right

. when the "fiery windmill" is in the correct position,
it is easy to jump back to the left on top of the
FM flower.

Of course, I haven't been able to enter World -1, warp from
1-2 to 6- 7- 8-, or reset to any World except 1-1 regardless of the
world in which I have expended my last Mario life.
12.305More notes from the novice.FUTURE::DWILLIAMSfaces called flowersMon Jan 13 1992 10:5647
The novice continues!

Not mentioned in the 304 replies to this note, that I've read:

. you get a 1-up when you accumulate 100 coins -
so you should be able to exit 2-1 with 7 lives
by taking all the coins and 1-ups in 1-1, 1-2 and
2-1 even if you skip 1-3 and 1-4 (both are now too
easy, in my opinion, and don't contain sufficient
value in coins, etc. to justify the time). 1-1
and 1-2, though very easy for me now, have so much
value; 2 1-ups, multiple chances to progress to
SM and FM, and almost 100 coins as well as direct
access to 2-1, 3-1, and 4-1; that I can't turn them
down.

. the number of coins to be won from the multiple
coin blocks is based somehow on the way you arrive
at them (and how quickly you complete the multiple
jumps?). In 1-1, for example, I have received as
few as 5 and as many as 13 coins from the first
multiple and as few as 2 and as many as 10 coins
from the first multiple in 1-2.

. there is a 1-up in 2-1 just above the hidden coin
in the first double turtle hutch:

----
|1-up|
----
__
--------- | | ----
Castle | ------------- -- | | |
| | | | | | | ----
| ------------- -- |
| | |

Now if I could just master 2-3! I average three lives to get
through this land of flying "fish?" and can't figure out how
to kill them. Waterworld, 2-2, I find to be boring - too easy
and, as with 1-3, lacking sufficient extra value to justify the
time.

At the rate of mastering half of one world per week, I will be
playing with SM for a very long time! Of course, my reading
time has been nill since beginning SM, not to mention the
chores which are being left "for another day."
12.306BUSY::SLABOUNTYHereComesTrouble&ItLooksLikeFunMon Jan 13 1992 14:2015

The multiple coin blocks require you to jump quickly in order to
scrounge as many coins as possible out of them. I don't remember
which world it was, maybe 3-2, but I got 15 coins out of one of
them. If you hit one, then pause to kill a turtle or something,
you'll probably only get 1 or 2 more coins off of it. It's got
to do with multiple hits within a certain time limit, although
I'm not sure what that limit is.

The flying fish can be shot if you're FM ... but the best way to
get through the level is to be careful and avoid them. Try not
to stop if at all possible ... if you miss a coin or 2, don't go
back for it/them.

O.K. I give. None of my family (or I) can figure out how to make
super or fiery Mario crawl! And, as I recall, there is one coin
area where the only way to get all the coins is to either crawl
under the bricks, or squat and walk simultaneously. We do know
how to squat, but, how do we walk while doing this?
12.3088-1 QuestionTEMPE::MERRICKTwilight ZonieWed Jan 15 1992 11:3012
We've been able to get through most of the levels without too many
problems. But we are stuck in 8-1.

We can get close to the end before the time runs out, but that seems
to be the least of our problems. How do you get past the long chasm
that is split 2/3 of the way with a tiny post???? We've tried jumping
onto the post, and using the B-jump to go all the way, and every time
we try it we die.

How do you experts out there do it?

This is in regard to Note 12.307 RE: "Crawling" Mario's

I don't recall any ability to crawl, but, when faced
with a low area of bricks, and Mario in Large Mode (super
or fire) you have to kind of "slide" while squatting
to get through these.

Do this by, walking/running toward the low area, then hit
down arrow on the controller. Mario will squat, and because
he was moving, will slide into/through the low area. One
area I am familiar with is in world 1-2, just after the
6-8 posts near the beginning. There is a low area there,
and Squating/sliding helped me get through. I can't remember
(it's been a while since I played), but if you get stuck in the
middle, you can break bricks by standing. Anyone confirm?
I do recall though, that if you get near the end, but not all the
way through, standing up again will "carry" Mario the rest of the
way.

Hope this helps.

I finally saved the princess!

A month ago one of my daughter's friends came over and went through
level by level (with our regular controllers, not her Advantage), and
to show us that it could be done and what to expect. After that we
got a lot better.

And last night I finally made it through 8-4 and Angel almost did.
And I did it as small Mario (I can never make it through 8-3 Super or
Fiery). I waited until the HTT came over the pipe at me and ran under
him. I don't remember how I got past the dragon. I think I ran under
him, too, but I might have jumped over. Anyway, I did it!

I was expecting the baddies in the next game to be tougher, but I
wasn't expecting beetles to replace the goombas and died before I could
get the first point! We made it back to 8-4, but never could get past
it again. But now we know it's possible for US to do it!

I finally managed the turtle trick in 3-1 and got 'WP' lives (the 'W' was more
like a crown.) I wasn't sure if I should continue bouncing up and down until
time ran out so I jumped out and got to the flag with 8 seconds left.

Not all the bouncing added up extra lives, some just added points.

The extra lives let me work my way through 6 and into 7 before running out. I've
decided to warp around and try different worlds. 3, 4 and 6 are pretty easy,
but I'm still having problems with 2-3(?) the flying fish.

In 4-2 I have managed to get up on top where the Mushroom/Flower is after
the first set of pits. I move to the right enough so only 1 block to the
left of the mushroom block is on the screen and the move back to the left
hand side and start smashing blocks. At some point Mario gets 'stuck' up
in the bricks and I can then jump up all the way and walk across the top.

It doesn't seem to do any good since I miss the coin box and 4 of the 6 coins
just before the elevator.

It's mentioned in the Super Mario 3 booklet that whenever you
jump onto 9 [I believe] enemies in succession without hitting
the ground that you will receive an extra life. When you miss
and land on the ground, the count starts back up again and you
get points [100/200/400/1000 and whatever] for every one you
jump on up to 9. And after the 9th, every one you jump on after
that gets you an extra life until you miss.

We go to the right just far enough to get the goombas coming toward
us then jump back over and wait for them to fall and then we go get
the coin box and the fire flower.

I usually do that too if I don't have FM at that point, but getting up on
top was a mistake the first time, but it is possible.

I played around in 8-1 this morning and wasted SO many lives trying to get
through. Everytime you die, no matter how close I got to the end, it would
start me at the very beginning.....

Dave,

It's like that all the way through 8-x. Last night, for the first and
probably only time I got all the way through in one try, warping. It
was only the second time I've been to 8-4 with bombs, and the rest was
easy.

I don't know if the 1-ups in 6-1 and 7-1 have been mentioned, but we
found them (by accident) the other night.

I can't seem to get the turtle trick at all, but as long as I can go
through without it I'm not worried.

After months of effort, 8.4 has been defeated. Last night, knowing
I had all but mastered 8.3 I set my sights on saving the princess. First
time through, no problem. Then world B. No problem. Then started at world
1-1 and wnet through to b 8.4. No problem. I am looking forward to putting
the Nintendo aside for a few weeks and getting caught up on my reading!
December 25th to March 6th is a long time!

Interesting to me, the books are quite poor. A nephew lent me his
books when I was half way through the game and, in my opinion, the books
leave a lot to be desired. For example, the 1-up in 8-1 can be retrieved
every time without having to cope with the beetle. How?

spoiler**************************************************

Simply avoid killing any of the three gaurdians. Jump over them and
the beetle will not be protecting the 1-up.

How about the "trick" to 8-2? As little Mario, run at B speed and jump
over the first enemy, landing on the second to last step of the frist half
of the stepped wall. Then jump up to the second to last step of the
second wall as soon as it is safe. A quick straight up jump will kill
the cloud. Don't bother with the 1-up unless you are going through to world
B. Entering 8-4 as Super Mario or Firey Mario insures that you will save
the princess. I have never been able to save the princess as little Mario.

The trick to 8-3? B run and B jump from the the stove pipe and from the top
level of the two suspended walls and you will be on the steps, passed the
hammer throwers and free to jump back to get the mushroom or power flower.
If you're FM, the rest of the world is a piece of cake, one of the easist
of the worlds above 4-4, in my opinion.

Also, the coins in world 8 aren't worth collecting unless you plan on
going through to world B. As stated earlier, one SM or FM life in 8-4
is all that is needed to save the Princess.

Wonderful fun. A true experience which required good motor skills and
analysis. What's next? Nieces and nephews all tell me Mario II is no
fun but sike Mario III.
12.318World B?? Where? How?TEMPE::MERRICKTwilight ZonieFri Mar 06 1992 17:3614

World B? Where is that? How do you get to it? That's something we've
never come across or been shown.

We usually save the princess as small Mario (only done it 3 or 4 times
fiery), it usually requires b-running under the dragon when he jumps
or jumping through the hammers.

My biggest problem is still 8-3, because I usually end up there small.
I can super on the first mushroom, but I hardly ever can get the second
one without running into a hammer thrower first. Any tips?

Hi,

Last night I too, finally saved the princess!!! Ya-hoo! Not only only
did I conquer 8-4 once... but twice!!!

Yah, Yah... I know... so what! After spending countless hours of trying
I did it with little Mario both times. I found it difficult to remain
Big and Firey after exiting 8-3.

regarding B world... pay attention to the princess after you rescue
her.

I have to agree with previous notes, that World B adds an interesting
twist. I have to admit though, if it weren't for this conference and
the occassional hint, I'd still be out there struggling... Thanks
Everyone!!!

I guess that it's time to go out and try to beat up on another world...

From a SMB III and video games in general rookie...a few basic questions.

Is there a way to save where you were last, so that you don't have to
start from the beginning every time?

Or, is there a way to move from one world to another without having to
go through the whole thing?

And, how the heck do you get through the pyramid at the end of world 2?

What pyramid at the end of World 2?

Is this a question about Super Mario Brothers 2?

RE:320,321

It is actually a question about SMB 3 which has a different note string
in here. Might want to move the questions there.

But to start the answers to the questions, No, you can't save a game but
you can use the special cloud to jump to a higher level (finding the right
spot is left as an exercise for the student :-). As to the Pyamid, you
need to be able to break blocks and to hit hidden blocks to get through.
I think that the other note string has more info on this.

Enjoy,
