250.0. "Ninja Gaiden" by SAHQ::SCHULTZ (Craig Schultz) Wed Apr 12 1989 13:26

Those of you who receive Nintendo Power have seen some of the hoopla
surrounding this game. Well, it is finally available! (Got mine
at Toys R Us) I have never really been into Ninja games but had
to give this one a try. It is a great game. Fast, responsive play-
Great graphics!, and a storyline. The combination of game play
and cinama display make this a game like no other on the NES. It
in ways reminds me of Super Mario Bros. and Metroid. I guess you
really have to play it to fully appreciate how well put together
this software is. It does not closely resemble the arcade version
of the game, but I think it is as good or better in NES format.

Nits: No password feature, but you can continue until you give
    up.

This is one tough game to beat. The are 6 acts with various
number of stages per act. Then between and during certain stages,
the cinama display comes into play.

All in all I would give this one a 9.5 out of 10. I have been playing
it solid for a week and have made it to act 6, stage 2. I have
tried for hours to get through this and it is TOUGH to do.

Looks like another winner from TEMCO!

How much did you pay for this game?
250.2KAY BEE.BOOKS::ANGELONEAre ya listenin' ??Thu Apr 13 1989 12:017

KAY BEE has it for $49.95.
If you are in Mass, the Auburn Mall and Greendale Mall stores
have it. If they do then TOY-R-US probably will have it for
    $5 less as usual.

Is this the game in the last issue of Nintendo Power?

It looked like a good game but a screen they showed said
something like "Oh, it's just a girl, never mind". It
really turned me off. Is this the game, and is it really
    that blatant?

Just bought this one the other day. It's tough. Timing has to be
perfect. I think you will really like it. I would rate it a 9.5,10.
It's the best action fight game nintendo has come out with in a
    long time.

    Clarification of display:

Do not be offended by that. It is part of the story line. When
this line is displayed, the Ninja hero has just fought and slashed
his way through a horde of villians. He is a little jumpy and when
he see's that it is a girl, he wants her to leave before more trouble
begins. However, she doesn't and goes on to play an important part
    in the story.

For those of you that have this game, can you pass on a way to beat
the second villian. The one that swings the the blade. Should I
be in front or behind him. Any help would be great.

The way to beat this villian is to hit him as fast as you can while
he is swinging the sword above his head. Then dash away as the
arm is extended. Jump high onto the wall and wait for the villian
to get underneath you. Then spring behind him and start the cycle
over again. You will probably take two or three hits (possibly
more) during this 'hit and run' sequence.

Hope this helps...it seems that there are no easy obsticals to overcome
    in this game...

Have made it to 6.5 but still victory eludes me...

Craig, thanks for the info, helped a lot. Got past him the first
try. I'm in the next room with the villian with the two stiletto's.
He is going to take some thinking to get by. He never stays still
long enough to attack. I'm sure there's something I'm missing as
an attack route. I'll see what happen's in the next few days.
Thanks again for the help. Keep me posted as to what level your
on. This is the toughest game I have ran into yet. But I really
    enjoy this one.

I got into act 6, which I gave a couple of tries before hitting
the sack. It's fast, furious, and fragile. It gets really difficult
at the end, it seems. Overall I would give this game a 9. It's really
well done. If anyone's really stuck, I can give some spoilers.

To get by the boss on this stage, you must first seperate the imposter
from the real boss. When you swing and hit the real boss or use
magic (perferably, the circle of fire), there will be damage listed
on the power meter across the top of the screen. Concentrate you
efforts to hit the real boss. Stay close to the raised pedistal
as you enter the room. With some luck, if you hit the imposter
serveral times (5 or 6), he will disappear, leaving you to face
    the real boss.

I have finally won. I almost thought I would never finish this
    game.

The cinema display places this game above most action games.
I'd like to see more games use the cinema display technique.

The following should not be read unless you have finished the game
because it will probably spoil the storyline.

250.19There is a way to get by the red guy OPUS::PREISIGWed Oct 04 1989 17:3741
I was stuck here for some time but finally figured out a way
that seems to work. I've got by him 3 times so far. Possible spoiler
follows:

First, you need lots of power and energy built up before
fighting him. I have had about 80 units of power each time. This is
the second number on the bottom line of the display. It is the one
that decrements each time you use a weapon like the star. So it is
important to get all the torches (whatever) as you go. It also seems
to help build up power if you wait for more creatures to appear and
kill them. Second, you need most of your energy (red squares). It
would be difficult to kill him with less than half red. I've usually
had about 3/4 red.

To kill him, stand in the middle and direct star weapons back
and forth as he jumps. You will get hit, but should be able to do
him in before getting wiped out.

	Hope this helps.

I did get to what I thought was the final level, before I quit
playing. But it has been awhile since I have played it. So could
you tell me what is the boss for level 6? Then maybe I can help.

I never bought the game, I borrowed it from a friend. I did like
the game, it reminded me a bit of Castlevania (in play and graphics).
But it seemed to get so impossibly difficult on the last levels. And
when I finally made it to the last level and lost, it bounced me back
2 or 3 levels. And that was the last I played it.

My brother said that in level 6 there are two bosses. The

destroying the glowing jewel. He's having a problem with

Then it's Jacqaio that must be beaten. After that the statues come
together and alive for the final battle. If at any time you need to
continue from any of the above described battles it's back to 6-2 or
      6-3, I don't remember exactly which.
Extremely difficult, at least for me,was to get thru 6-3/6-4. The
