32.0. "DEADLY TOWERS" by MOMAX1::PILOTTE (It just keeps getting better!) Thu Dec 10 1987 18:02

Does anyone else have this game. Contrary to what the rating
says in not I find this game to be real adventurous. I my self would
rate it a solid 9. But then that's just my opinion I guess.

Anyway this game is all about Prince Myer and his quest to capture
the seven bells from seven different towers. Sound easy? It's not.
Each tower has a bell at the top, once captured each bell must be burnt at
the Holy Flame. After burning all the bells you will be able to open the
entrance to the King of the Devil's room. Of course in order to capture these
bells you must first find the towers, and then destroy all the enemies while
climbing to the top. Each bell is guarded by the Death Bear. To kill this
guy you must first build up your defenses. This requires that you travel
through the dungeons looking for shops to buy your weapons and life potion.

By the way, the dungeons are all hidden, but once inside one there
are over 200 rooms to each dungeon. Also the way you get in is not the same
way you get out, you must find the proper room to get out of the dungeon.

This game is little of Zelda and Metroid combined. You can collect
up to 299 life hearts, 250 Ludders (money) and store extra potion and weapons
in the sub-screen (inventory/status) It also has a password selection which
allows you to pick up where you left off.

Like I said before, I find this game to be very good and sometimes
frustrating. I will post what I've collected so far in the next reply.
If you have this game, Tell us how you like it and how far you have gotten.

32.1my status so farMOMAX1::PILOTTEIt just keeps getting better!Thu Dec 10 1987 18:0919

So far, I have found 6 Dungeons, the Parallel World, 4 of the towers
and a shop outside of the dungeon. I have collected 270 life hearts,
Shield, Chain Helmet, Blue Glove, & Hyper Boots (still don't know
    how to use these yet)

The dungeons are a real blast. (ha ha) I am currently working
on one dungeon and have explored over 150 rooms. I still haven't
found any shops, but I did finally manage to find the room with
the exit back to the overworld.

I think this game is great....

If anyone needs any pointers I'll be glad to help you with what
    I have found so far.

32.3Nicely doneMOMAX1::PILOTTEIt just keeps getting better!Fri Dec 11 1987 11:429

I personally think that the graphics are just as good as both
Zelda and Metroid. As a matter of fact once you get to the towers
the three dimensional effect is pretty realistic. Walking up the
stairs is tricky, but once you learn how to walk diagnolly its not
so bad. Yes this came has eight way movement, this in itself is
    fun.

32.4weekend updateMOMAX1::PILOTTEIt just keeps getting better!Mon Dec 14 1987 15:4615
Well over the weekend I managed to capture one of the bells from
a tower. I have also now increased my life power to max (299)

Found the Gauntlet (which is the most powerful glove you can get)
Found the Hyper Helmet which helps to strengthen your defense and
lower the amount of hit points. I also found the parallel sword
option. I'm not sure if I like having this weapon because it
seems to slow down the rate of your fire power.

I'm still working with the short sword which is a pain because like
Zelda it seems to take forever to kill off an enemy. Is anyone
else out there playing this game or has played it. I wouldn't
mind getting a hint on where I might find a more powerful sword.

32.5two down...five to go..MOMAX1::PILOTTEIt just keeps getting better!Tue Dec 15 1987 12:3212
Well last night I was able to conquer my second tower. I also found
the Hyper Armor and the Dragon Slayer sword.....At least now I can
get around easier without be killed right off the bat. I also have
covered every square inch of dungeon one.. except for one room which
is closed. I have a sneaky suspicion that I will need to find the
blue scroll. (this scroll warpds you inside the dungeon and it hints
at being warped to a closed room) of course you will then need
something else to warp you back out.

Am I the only one playing this right now???? where is everybody.

32.7Mission AccomplishedMOMAX1::PILOTTEIt just keeps getting better!Thu Dec 17 1987 13:3816
Well yesterday I defeated Rubas, the ending graphics were very good and
of course there was the list of credits that scrolled acrossed the screen.

Lots of strange changes happen once you capture your first three bells,
but I won't say what they are here so I don't spoil your surprise. I ended the
game having found all the special weapons. I never did figure out though
how to use the Hyper Boots.

One hint I will give you is that you won't start to find the stonger
potion until you have captured at least three bells. I guess they figured
you wouldn't need it until then.

For those that do get this game and would like a hint here and there, you
can send me mail, or ask here in this note.

32.8Deserves Better RatingOFFRT9::BDIMBATEchos in the NightFri Feb 19 1988 18:5920
Have to enter a favorable rating for DT. Eric's rating notes are
generally quite similar to what I would give but I think he is much
too harsh on this one. I agree that there is a fair amount of
repetition of rooms but that probably is necessary as there are
over 2000 different locations in this game. That is a lot of
ground to cover and we spent well over a hundred hours mapping and
solving this one. Remember that the password feature allows you to
power off and restart some other time with all the weapons, life
and things that you've collected so far. At times it was just a
grind, but at others there were enough "hearts in throat" to make
it worthwhile. I would definitely buy this one again compared to
half of the 30 that we have gotten.

Small hint - There is a tendency to avoid the parallel worlds
because they are too tough and it's too easy to get killed off.
       Don't! No Pain, no Gain.

32.13Maze Shops and Parallel ZonesOFFRT9::BDIMBATEchos in the NightFri Apr 01 1988 16:3312
I think -edp- is talking about Athena. In Deadly Towers, there
are two main places to get hi-grade stuff. Buried in each maze
are 2 to 6 shops that sell different things. Primarily this is
the lower level of upgrading. There are also Parallel Worlds where
the perils are many but the rewards are great. The entrances are
not marked on the screen. If you cross the spot on the screen,
then you are in the maze or parallel zone, whether you want to be
or not. It's up to you to find the exit. Mapping was a must for
    me.

I love this game! I'm not very good - but I love it.

So far all I have is the chain helmet, bronze shield and some kind
of sword I bought in the first dungeon. Obviously my defenses leave
alot to be desired. I think I have found about 6 of the dungeons,
but I'm not sure if I know what is meant by, or if I have been in,
    the "Parallel Worlds".

32.16For Whom the Bell TollsOFFRT9::BDIMBATEchos in the NightFri Apr 15 1988 13:4814
I believe you've found one of the parallel worlds. I've found it
best to stock up on "medicine", get in, grab and use immediately
if it is a new weapon/armor. That way, if I should happen to die,
the new equipment is permanently with me.

Parallel worlds are more or less identical in appearance to the
normal world whence we came from. The inhabitants however are much
more numerous and villainous, for sure.

Congratulations on ringing your first bell. Heady experience, isn't
    it?

THE BEST WAY TO BUILD UP MONEY AND HEARTS IS TO FIND A ROOM IN ONE
OF THE DUNGEONS THAT HAS A POLE WITH THE BALL ROTATING AROUND IT.
ONCE YOU'VE FOUND IT ENTER FROM THE SIDE DOOR AND SHOOT IT FROM
A DISTANCE. THEN KEEP ON GOING IN AND OUT OF THE ROOM UNTIL YOU'VE
GOT ALL THE STUFF YOU WANT.

MOST OF THE DUNGEONS ,HOWEVER, ARE NOT WORTH GOING INTO. I
CONQUERED RUPAS WITH ONLY EXPLORING 1 DUNGEON FULLY AND ANOTHER
    PARTIALLY.

ALMOST EVERY TOWER HAS A PARALLEL WORLD OR SECRET ROOM, THATS
WHERE TO FIND THE STUFF YOU REALLY NEED.

32.18Can't get started..Help?SPUD::GAYFTue Aug 02 1988 15:1615
I have found this game to be both challenging as well as discouraging.
The challenge part comes mostly from trying not to get killed (the
discouraging part), but unfortunately for me, I am getting more
discouraged than I am challenged. I have read through this thread
of notes, and it appears to me that once you have built up your
strength (hearts) and weaponry, then the game become more stratigic
then just staying alive. However, I have not as yet gotten to this
point, and it is most dishearting to play for an hour, build up
my life heart storage to 255, but only collect 140-150 hearts only
to get wiped out early in each game. What I am looking for is a
hint as to how I can at least get started without meeting a (too)
    early demise..

    Thanks,
    Frank.

Well, after a week worth of assault, I finally completed this game.
I have had it for a considerable amount of time, but had shelved it for
	others.

The game does get more interesting as you go further along. Note
the more power you get and more bells you burn, more details appear
in the dungeons and on the walkways, BUT, the enemy gets more
aggressive. I found patience to be the key. Take the time to stock
up in the shops before launching your attack. As mentioned in
previouse notes, the more powerfull items are found in the secret
	rooms and parralel worlds.

	Hints or spoilers available.

Not too sure which one your speaking of but they area all "about"
the same. You need patience and plenty of power. Stock up on the
blue bottles of life (or red?) and attack with your best sword.
Obtaining the best armor doesn't hurt either...

You will find there are some "dead" spots where the "thing" does
not shoot. The screen gets pretty active but there usually is a
spot or too not being hit. Stand there and just keep firing.
Somtimes just moving around can help. Just stay out of the firing
    patter.

I found the most success when shooting diagnally, but mabey
that was where the dead spots were.

Have you gotten the double sword yet? That doubles up the damage
    you do.

Also, don't leave the room and come back in. He "it" regains
full strength when you do that. Just "hang in there" and find a
spot not being attacked. The last screen only gets harder, but it
    			      CAN BE DONE!!

32.23Just keep on keepin' onMYTURN::GREENOIt's all Magic and MirrorsWed Oct 19 1988 15:2421

You shoot diagonally in the same manner you walk diag up the stares
to the tower. As far as getting the stuff, you will find the program
gives you what you need (minimal) in each tower. Search for the
parralel worlds and hidden rooms. There you will find what you need
just lying on the floor. (the trick is to get it and use it before
you die). These rooms etc. are found by searching the edges of the
outside and inside of the towers. Much as you find the dungeon by
mistake, you will find these zones. As I remember, there is at least
one in every tower. Some are outside, others are inside, search
    all around.

What you don't find by accident will be for sale in the shops as
you gain more experience (get further along). The game really starts
to get interesint once you've burned a bell or two. Once you get
the swords and armor it gets easier too.

I started working counterclockwise from the third tower to the left
of the holy flame. Any starting point should do though.

You can find leather armor in the dungeon by the dragon.

The only parallel worlds and secret rooms are by the towers.

I don't remember reading about it in this note, but I believe that
oneof the old issues of Nintendo Power has a code in it that will
start you off with max power. (double sword, max life, etc.) The
only problem is I can't remember which issue it was in. With over
2000 rooms to map the code makes the game a little more exciting
and kills the boredom factor. Happy hunting.

Just bought Deadly Towers this weekend and it really is a tough
game. Some things I don't understand, maybe I'm just thick. Here goes.
Is there some way to save your money so when you die or switch off you
can have it for your next game? And we tried the FE trick with the
password and it didn't work. So any ideas guys?! We already mastered
Zelda, and my six year old is doing pretty good at that but when we
sit down to play this game he won't have anything to do with it!
Who can blame him? We need help!!!! Please send spoilers!!!!!!!!!

32.31WARNING SPOILER IN VIEW DON"T READ UNLESS--HPSTEK::SCHWARTZWed May 17 1989 12:0316
The FE trick does work. It will not give you any money or magic,
but it will give you max firepower ( double sword, max shield etc.)
it has to be entered when you first start the game. I.e die asap
and get password then take that password and change the first two
letters to FE without changing the rest of the password.

There is no way that I know of to save ludders (money) or items
    bought in the dungeons. Sorry!!

If the FE trick doesn't work for you after this, then it is my
guess that they may have removed that feature on more recently
manufactured game packs. (mine is an old one) Keep trying.

I put the spoiler in full view this time because it has been
A problem for other players as well. Be very careful that the password
is correct before starting the game.

Paul, I also have had this game for a long time. I finally
decided to attempt a map of the dungeon(s). I found the first
dungeon had over 150 rooms and I still hadn't explored all of
the entrance ways. I did manage to get to an exit leading up
towards the tower - however before reaching the tower and bell
I ?fell? into a secret room where I consistently got murdered.
Finally went on to Dragon Warrior. Am still planning to attempt
Deadly Towers when and if I get more proficient with mastering
    the maps needed.
I guess this really doesn't answer your plea for help, but at

decided to let a friend borrow it to see if he can succeed where I

it (much to my amazement). I haven't played it much but here are a few
    things to be aware.

    	1. Be careful when charting dungeons - they overlap side to side,
    		up and down.

    	2. Dungeons and some stores are invisible (in game booklet).

    	3. Parallel Universes in tower section (I believe that is in the
    		game booklet as well).

Maybe if we are nice to our co-moderator (I won't mention your name)
he can help us out a leetle beet, eh??

    Thanks alot Steve :-)

Seeing there is only 3 co-moderators, sooner or later you would find
    me.

Well lets see what I remember of that game....its been over a year.

    first hint!!!

Don't mess around in the dungeons...your wasting your time
and you won't find that much. I used the dungeons mainly to build
up life potion (or whatever it was called).

    Second hint!!!!

You'll find everything you need in the towers....look for the
hidden room within each tower entrance you will find certains pieces
of weapons and protection. Find the secret room before you take the
bell. Once you get that bell the door closes and you can't get back
    in.

Hey Steve, do you still have that game?? Maybe I should pay you
a visit someday and show you how its done.
