291.0. "NEED LAWYER" by CAVEAT::ROBINSON () Wed Oct 12 1988 14:18

Hello,I'm new to this file and I'd like to get some advice or
recomendations on choosing a divorce lawyer.Presently I pay
one half of my net pay for child support. My soon to be ex has
a full time job and has just bought a new car.I myself am having
a hard time even squeeking by.I need a lawyer that is for the man
and who has a good sucsess rate in seeing that the man can get a
fair shake.I have no quams about paying support but I think the
amount I pay for one child is an outrage. If anyone out there can
help me out I would be very gratefull.

             Thanks in advance
                  Rob

Steve, I think that note just points to yet another
note from which all the names of lawyers were deleted
on the grounds that they were a form of "advertising"
--is there a policy about not allowing recommendations
for lawyers here? Seems like more of a public service
than a commercial advertisement in this case.

You might try to contact any men's divorce reform organization such
as Fathers for Equal Rights, or National Congress of Men.
The NCM is located in Washington DC. phone (202)-FATHERS. Most
importantly after you find an attorney, get as educated as possible
about the area you are concerned about. Don't completely trust your
attorney to do it all for you. Get involved with a mens orgainization.
There is strength through numbers and thats the only way we men
are going to get fair treatment in the courts.

F.A.I.R. will provide you with a written recommendation and the
lawyer recommended is fully versed in Father's rights and meets
the standards set by FAIR. I think you need to be a member though.
But the $50 is well worth the cause. 800-722-FAIR

Personnally, I have a fantastic lawyer and I have recommended him
many times to others, and they were very satisfied with him as well.
Unfortunately for you he is located in Salem, Ma. I would still
take the time to travel to him though, I live in Leominster, he
    is that good.

One thing to consider in your hunt - check into the reputation of
the lawyer you get. I weigh my mileage against the results I get
from my lawyers' work - if I lived further south I would still travel
    to him....
