    I'm confused, Isn't "Sleepless" a remake of "An Affair to Remember", by
    all accounts atouching romantic comedy. And isn't "When a man loves a
    woman about a reforming alcoholic.
    
    Maybe it's just me but I would think by nature they would be dissimilar
    movies.
    
    But then again, maybe I'm picking nits.

    The only two things that Sleepless In Seattle and When A Man Loves A
    Woman have in common, imo, is that both star Meg Ryan, and both are
    about romantic relationships.  Sleepless is a romantic comedy, while
    WAMLAW is about a romantic relationship, but is definitely not a
    comedy, though it does have some very funny scenes.
    
    I just saw When A MAn Loves A Woman this past weekend, and I enjoyed it
    a lot.  It seemed very realistic to me.  I'm not an alcoholic and have
    never been in a relationship with one, so I can't really know for sure,
    of course, but it *seemed* very realistic to me, very believable.  
    
    I thought the story was very interesting.  I thought the acting was
    excellent and the characters well developed.  I really cared what
    happened to them.  They weren't cardboard cutouts.  It is a movie that
    simply because of the plot will make a lot of people cry, but it's
    still a very well done movie.  I liked it a lot.

    Saw this over the weekend. A well made and thoughtful movie, with some

    I saw it too with my two sisters and two nieces.  I know I cried as did
    my sisters, but couldn't see my nieces...they musta...but then again...
    well maybe!
    
    Good movie - as some would say "good chic flick".

    can somebody give a resume of the plot ? who is in it except Meg Ryan?

    Well the movie centers around a man (andy garcia) and a woman (meg
    ryan) and their two daughters.  The woman has a drinking problem and it
    shows the struggles they go thru to get her C&S and back on track.  For
    the most part, the only other main character was the babysitter Amy and
    I didn't notice her name.

I was less enthusiastic than other noters.  Meg Ryan is a great comic
actress, but she's miscast here as a dysfunctional mom.  The story is
highbrow - a "Cinderella alcoholic" with perfect kids, perfect husband, 
lots of money.  But what's fascinating about alcoholism, in a successful
family like this one, is the absolute plausibility of denial, and all the 
subtle collusion and enabling.  Everything in this film is above the boards.

	Well it came out on video today.  The opening scene was very
	funny.  The rest was sad.  A good movie, but I do feel the
	Andy Garcia character was under developed because some of
	his actions seemed to come from left field.

    I didn't care for this movie at all.  I guess I was expecting more
    of a "love story" vs. a relationship with an alcoholic.

    	I saw most of it last night ... very good, IMO, but sad for
    	the most part.
    
    	The babysitter, Amy, was played by the same person who played
    	Ross' former girlfriend on "Friends".
