418.0. "Best and worst films of 1993" by 29563::WSA038::SATTERFIELD (Close enough for jazz.) Wed Jan 05 1994 15:11

I didn't see very many '93 films, the ones I did see and enjoy were:

Sleepless in Seattle

Jurassic Park

Much Ado About Nothing

Groundhog Day

Matinee

Housesitter (92 or 93?)

Curiosly all these films are light in tone with not much drama in any of
them. I know there have been some good dramatic films released in the last
two or three months (_The Remains of the Day_, _The Piano_, _Ruby in Paradise_)
but I haven't seen any of them yet.

I didn't see any films that I thought were bad although of course there
are plenty of them out there.

re .3, Joe, your taste is so low-brow. :-)

I didn't like Amos and Andrew, but I thought Wayne's World 2 was kinda

I didn't really see all that many films this year, and most of them were
on video (which means that they probably came out last year). But here's some
that stick in my mind:

GREAT
-----
The Fugitive (relentless!)
Untamed Hearts (predictable, yet I loved it anyways)
Matinee (I loved this movie, and Mant was great also)
A Few Good Men (surprisingly good)
Reservoir Dogs (riveting!)

DECENT
------
Jurassic Park (great dinosaurs, mediocre movie)
Groundhog Day (entertaining, but nothing *great*)
Dave (see Groundhog Day)
Under Siege (mindless entertainment)
The Firm (I think I liked it better than most people here, almost made 'great')
The Night We Never Met (cute comedy)
Jennifer 8 (good suspense movie, especially since I'm really not a big fan of
	    thrillers)
Bob Roberts (fun, but a little longer than it should have been)

DISAPPOINTING
-------------
Sleepless in Seattle (boring! what was the big deal?)
Falling Down
Body Of Evidence (worst movie I've seen since 'Millenium'!)
Sneakers (not awful, but what a waste of a great cast!)
Rising Sun (again, not real bad, just could have been better)
The Bodyguard (not as bad as I expected, but still not good)
River Runs Through It (I know, I know, everyone else loved it. Oh well....
maybe I'll try it again some other time)

Did anyone see Siskel and Ebert's worst of 1993 show? I missed it and
would be interested if someone could list their worst of the year here.

    Thanks.

Can't remember what their Absolute Worst choices were,
but they each chose a film that the other one had liked.
The most interesting part of the show was this final
exchange in which it was so clearly communicated how
these two men loathe each other(full stop?)'s taste.

I think Ebert's Worst choice was "Carnosaur".

>I think Ebert's Worst choice was "Carnosaur".

Siskel's worst was Cop and 1/2...

It was funny 'cause the movie that they both picked, the other
person gave thumbs up on originally.
