615.0. "Wrestling Ernest Hemingway" by NETRIX::michaud (Peter O'Toole) Tue Aug 16 1994 15:57

This one is set in a Florida retirement community. Robert Duvall
plays a retired barber who came from Cuba (before Castro took over).
Richard Harris plays a retired boat Captain who once wrestled with
Ernest Hemingway. And Shirley MacLaine plays a owner of a small
apartment complex (at which Richard Harris is a tenent). Oh yea,
Sandra Bullock ("Speed" and "Demolition Man") plays a waitress in
	a restaurant that Duvall's character calls a sweet shop. I can't
remember the actress who plays Richard Harris's love interest.

The story's primary relationship is between Duvall and Harris after
they meet in the park one day. Then there is also the relationship
between Harris and the actress I can't recall (this relationship
is confined to a local movie house that runs old movies). Harris
also has a relationship with Shirley MacLaine, and Duvall with
	Sandra Bullock.

It's a slow moving story, but most definitly worth a watch on
video if you want to see a nice film.

A nice little character study, could be called "The Odd Couple Do
Florida." Duvall does a great job. The other female character was
    played by Piper Laurie.

A very enjoyable and occasionally moving film. Harris and Duvall both gave
terrific performances, as good as anyone Oscar nominated that year. Piper
Laurie had quite a makeup job, I barely recognized her at first. It's
comparisons to _Cocoon_ just point out the scarcity of films about people
of this age. The only connection between the films is the age of it's
pricipals.

Saw this movie last night and would recommend it. It did touch on
several issues with aging. That's unusual in any movie, and
particularily so with regard to older men.

Good performances, it's nice to see Richard Harris getting to play in a
    few roles these days.
