449.0. "The Bodyguard" by 7892::SLABOUNTY (Do you wanna bang heads with me?) Tue Feb 01 1994 10:09

[What?? No note yet? I'm almost embarrassed to be the one to
    	 start it. 8^)]

I saw "The Bodyguard" last night ... bad move, since it didn't get
    	over until about 2AM.

I was actually surprised, but I kind of liked it. Kevin was a
dork, as usual, and Whitney was gorgeous.

    	A couple good lines:

"This is the last time I want to have this talk", after he beats
the doo-doo out of Tony in the kitchen.

"Then why don't you go back there and keep doing it", to the lady
at the party who tried to hit on him.

Aye, Kevin was as dork and Whitney was gorgeous and they both were
    exceedingly boring. :)

For a film about a singer who's apparantly threatened enough to warrant
a top notch bodyguard, I found it incredibly dull. Whitney Houston is
not what I'd call a...dynamic actress and well, we have all talked
about Kevin Costner in the "Wooden Actor" note. I thought the screen
chemistry between them implausible. Whitney played such an inane bitch
you had to really question the Costner character's choice of love
interests. Her looks, although easy on the eye, didn't seem quite
enough to cause anyone to endure all that really bad dialog she tended
to deliver. Of course, he wasn't exactly Mr. Glib himself. I digress.

Basically, I didn't like it. Poor characters, poor acting, poor
script, no suspense, big name stars and bad haircuts. Feh.

    A *.75 out of ****.

    Cheers,

re .1, I agree. I was very bored by it. Whitney Houston is one of
those people who, even though I *know* they are conventionally good
looking, they bore me so much that I ultimately find them unattractive.
    I don't think she's a very good actress, either, and I, also, didn't
    like Costner's haircut.

It was an extremely ordinary movie.

Has anybody else, other than myself, refused to even watch the
movie because they were totally overloaded by the soundtrack
overplay before they even had chance to catch the movie. I'm not a
Whitney Houston hater but the music just PO'ed me enough that
I started changing channels whenever the music or a trailer
	appeared.

That depends. I wasn't thrilled with all the cover versions of "I
Will Always Love You" before she sang her version.

But if Whitney herself was on stage singing, I just sat there and
drooled all over myself. I didn't have a problem sitting through
	those parts.

Although I agree with just about all the replies to this note,
I still have to say it was a lot better movie than I expected
(I was kinda forced into watching it).

I guess that says something about how little I was expecting,
more than anything. :-)

Lorna, real singers who are proffessionaly trained singers (ie. Opera
singers etc.) ther mouths allwasy quiver..it has to do with the
voice comming from the dyaphram(sp). That is one way to allways
tell a truely trained singer. (unlike Axl Rose types)

Re: the moive, I love Whitnes vocie so I had no trouble getting
    through the moive.

re .9, that doesn't mean I have to like the way it looks.

I don't know much about singing, but I know what I like, and it's not
Whitney. I'd take Axl over her, anyday.

After so many negative reviews, I have to add one more positive.

It was not a superb movie, but a quite entertaining one.

And I like Kevin Kostner, therefore I mostly enjoy his movies.
And Whitney was better then expected.

I like Kevin Costner. I liked Dances with Wolves and Fandango.
I find him reserved rather than wooden with his acting approach
( to cross reference another note). I don't mind Whitney's
singing in moderation. What I found was the over-advertising,
overplay of the music/songs ruined any chance of me wanting
to see the movie. I don't blame Whitney or Kevin, but the
over-selling publicity agents and the record-buying public
for encouraging them (as they did with Bryan Adams and that
	other Costner movie).

Haven't seen it, but SNL's "Hollywood Minute" (David Spade?) killed me
    with his review:

"And IIIIIIIIIIeeeeeeIIIIIIIIIIII... want my money back!"

I'm almost afraid to admit it, but I kinda liked it. Costner to me was
very believable. He had a bad haircut because that's the kind of
    haircut that character would've had!!!

And as everyone knows, Whitney has had a thing for me for several
    years! ;-)

I tried not to enter this, but this was a guilty pleasure of sorts for
    me, too.

I went thinking it was going to be utter garbage, so the real thing was
bound to better than my expectation.

I kinda liked it, certainly not anything to write home about, but with
Whitney basically playing herself and Kevin exhibiting the whole range
of emotions from A to B, which was the right thing for this movie, the
    reasult was OK.

449.16a stuffed shirt wouldn't show emotions34315::JBOBBJanet Bobb dtn:339-5755Wed Feb 16 1994 17:2715
I guess I'm part of the minority in this notes file - I liked this
movie and I'm a big Kevin Costner fan.

IMHO - the character that Costner plays is a stuffed shirt, ex-Secret
service guy who still blames himself for the success of the attempted
Reagan assassination (sp?)... even though he wasn't there. I would
expect this type of person to show little/no personality, except that
he does. I think Costner did a good job of showing the understated
    emotions.

But then again, I also have a poster of him from Robin Hood Prince of
Thieves hanging in my cube... and I loved that movie (apparently the
only one not bothered by his lack of accent) :^)
