685.0. "The Road to Wellville" by SMAUG::LEHMKUHL (H, V ii 216) Tue Nov 01 1994 12:47

Very strange film. Comedy. Cautiously recommended if
there is nothing better on the bill at your multiplex.

Tony Hopkins plays John Kellogg, eccentric/quack inventor
of the cornflake and numerous health spa instruments
and processes of torture. He operates the Battle
Creek (MI) Sanitarium where turn of the century {insert
your biased noun here} go for the cure. Hopkins'
performance is rather over the top, but then I gather
that was how Mr. Kellogg was. Great teeth.

Also stars Brigitte Fonda, Matthew Broderick, John
Cusack, and Dana Carvey (who plays Kellogg's warped,
filthy, insane adopted son).

Lots of sex, nudity, bodily functions, and loud clanging
resonances to today's American health obsessions (not
picking out any particular state of the union).

685.1Strange Indeed!CRISTA::MAYNARDThe Front Row KidFri Nov 04 1994 10:5410
    Beautifully photographed and the set designs and costumes were
    marvelous. Reminded me of Popeye in that all of the actors were very
    "cartoonish". Their speech and mannerisms were strange to say the
    least.
    Probably worth the price of admission to see the little boy who plays
    Kellogg's adopted son (in flashbacks).
    Like the basenote, I'm not sure what to make of this movie. It's very
    dark-humored comedy, and it does have it's moments.

I want to check this out. It was filmed where I went
on my honeymoon.

It's an amazing place!
