376.0. "The Gods Must Be Crazy" by 51847::SANDGREN (Keep it simple) Mon Nov 15 1993 12:04

Has anybody seen the southafrican movie 'The Gods Must Be
Crazy'? I found it absolutely hilarious. One of the funniest
movies I've ever seen. I fell off my chair when I saw how
shy the white scientist became whe he met the woman; he made
the most clumsy movements in his heartbreaking attempts to
	catch her interest..

Does anybody know the instructor's name? There was also a part
	two, also a brilliant farce..

This movie has been out now for quite a few years. I loved it just as
you did; rolling off my seat with tears coming down my cheeks from
laughter. I has not yet seen the sequel. Is it just a funny as the first?
Do it star the same African native and same white scientist?

The sequel stars the same bushman but everyone else appears to be new.
Funny, but not in the same league as the original (IMO). The original
operates strongly on several levels but I have no idea if it was intentional.
I've seen it at least a dozen times and I always feel like I've been touched
by something really special.

My thirteen-year-old son watched it again (he's seen it every time I have)
last week and still loves it.

By the way, the guy who wrote, directed, filmed, edited, etc. "The Gods Must
Be Crazy" also did an obscure whimsical "nature' film with a lot of the same
character (and maybe characters). I think it's called "Animals are Beautiful
People". His name is Jamie Uys, or something like that.

One night, years ago, I was watching some PBS show about bushman
when who should show up at the campfire but the lead in "TGMBC."
What was his name? !XYX! ?

He has that unmistakable look about him and was easy to recognize.
I'm sure this PBS show was before the movie. Maybe he was 'discovered'
during the filming of the PBS special.

Jodi-who put "TGMBC" as one of my all time favorite "funny" films.

	>What was his name? !XYX! ?

	I think it was 'Xi'.

BTW, I loved when he he met the white woman: 'she must be very
old, she has long white hair - and too big, must be difficult
to feed!' And when he for the first time saw a man smoking:
	'He's on fire inside!'

Another part which was hilarious was when the rhino put out
the camp fire, and the scientist had to explain to the woman
why he grabbed her and pulled her into a bush - she was upset
and didn't believe about the rhino; then some bushmen appeared
and he tried to get proof from them (in bush language) about
the rhino story - and they shook their heads! And then he had
to explain to her that bushmen mean 'no' when they nod and 'yes'
when they shake their heads! I loved it!

The sequel was also funny, maybe not so funny as the first one,
but I found the children amazingly cute..
