83.0. "EXPOSURE" by 8269::BARRIANO (choke me in the shallow water...) Mon Mar 22 1993 00:44

This is a fairly recent movie (last three years) and takes place in South
America. The lead character is a expatriate american who is being trained
in self defense by a professional knife fighter who is referred to as a
Persever (for perforate and sever) I don't remember the title and its driving
me batty. Anyone recognize the movie and know the title?

Barry

Could it have been "Perfect Weapon" with Jeff Speakman as the lead? I
remember it had quite a bit of karate-style kicking, but I vaguely
    remember knives, too.

Hi Catherine,

Nope, the movie I'm trying to remember takes place in South America (Argentina
and Chile, I think). The expatriate American saves the life of a Persever and
is taught how to knife fight. It had the best choreographed knife fights I've
seen, but it wasn't really a "martial arts" movie. I guess I'll start to visit
the local video shop and see if its out on video. I know that as soon as I see
or hear the title, it will come back to me.

    Okay, Barry...

I just called my friendly Blockbuster manager, and he came up with
AMAZON, starring Robert Davi and Rae Dawn Chong (sp). That's all he
could find. Sounds like something Robert Davi would be in, though.

    Maybe?
I'll have to go to Blockbuster and look at the sleeve. I'll
report back later.

  Not Amazon :-(
I looked at every movie Blockbusters had. I guess since I can't remember the
title, the director or any of the stars I'm SOL :-). I did pick up the original
1936 version of The Last of the Mohicans for $10 while I was there, so it wasn't
a wasted trip.

83.6Peter Coyote??21752::AWILLIAMSIt's a duck blur...Tue Mar 23 1993 19:076
Maybe hope isn't lost. I haven't seen this film but was Peter Coyote
in it?? I seem to remember a review of a similarly-themed movie with
him as one of the stars. Of course, I can't remember the title but
    maybe this'll help...

    Skip,

I think that may be the guy. Now all I have to do is look up Coyote in
the order book. I'll have to wait till tomorrow, I was getting some strange
looks from the staff, after I'd been there two hours, going up one aisle and
down the other :-)

83.8An earlier version of "Last of the Mohicans"KOLFAX::WIEGLEBWho is 'The Loneliest Monk'?Tue Mar 23 1993 19:178
RE: .5 ("Last of the Mohicans")

Actually, the 1936 version was not the first film of the book. There
was actually a 1920 (silent) version, shot on location at Big Bear Lake
and Yosemite Valley, directed by Maurice Tourneur and Clarence Brown,
    with Wallace Beery.

    Dave,

Very interesting, was that Wallace Beery Sr. or Jr.?
Did he play Hawkeye or Chingkagacook (sp)

83.10**Something** Exposure?? Still thinking about it16821::POGARResident Movie Critic & Costner FanWed Mar 24 1993 13:4225
    Barry -

I agree with -.2 or so. It was Peter Coyote, and the movie was billed
as an "erotic thriller." Far from erotic, but definitely a thriller.

Wasn't there a cassette tape or something like that involved that _the_
girl had and Coyote was trying to protect her from the guys that wanted
it? Plus, she witnessed some kind of murder or something. And then
there was the twist (spoiler alert)...

Wasn't Coyote's mentor the bad guy? I remember all the knives now.

I'll keep taxing my brain and let you know. I did see the movie, but it
was so wonderful that I can't for the life of me think of the name.

Was it something like Indecent Exposure or Double Exposure? I think it
    was just a two-word title.

I also just placed a phone call to the Dallas Morning News film critics
with a description of the film. The one critic I've met is on vacation
this week, but I may have an answer back this afternoon.

Re: .10

Your description of the plot sounds just like that Sheen/Estevez film
_Working_Men_ was it ? They were dustbin men anyway, and a dead body was
involved :-)

    Catherine,

You got it, plot and all, only the title is just Exposure :-)
Only trouble now is, Blockbusters don't carry it and the other
place I went to, will order it, BUT the price is $92 :-(
I'll keep checking around, now that at least I know the title.

   Thanks
   Barry

According to the databases, it also goes by the title "High Art" -- for
what that's worth.
