60.0. "Jack Nicholson" by 36905::BUCHMAN (Just say NOtes!) Fri Mar 05 1993 15:10

I have a question that's been bugging me for some time. In what movie
did Jack Nicholson call someone "Sparky"?

Speaking of Jack, he's getting a lot of roles lately. Of all the tough
guys he has played, I've never seen him tougher than in "A Few Good
    Men."

I thought it was from before Batman, maybe in Chinatown. Robin Williams
used it in his Live at the Met show, which was made around 1986.

I just asked the other resident movie critic here, and the expert said:

His best guess is that is was in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST. The
critic mumbled who Sparky was, but his mouth was full of the popcorn
I just made. I can find out about Sparky, if no one else knows.

Just a guess, but I suspect "Sparky" is the psychiatriac hospital's
electro-shock machine. "Inmates" (be they psychiatric or criminal)
often give names to such machines: in fact, "Sparky" is the name of
    Georgia's electric chair.

Did Jack Nicholson have a role in "The Bridge on the River Kwai"?

I do not remember him in this, but saw something recently that purports
to list it among his films. An uncredited extra, perhaps?

60.6Maybe...DECWET::HAYNESFri Feb 18 1994 14:345
The Video Guide (1994) by Martin & Porter don't show him as a main
listing in that movie, but he COULD have been an "uncredited extra"....

Wouldn't Jack have been a bit young ? (aspiring teenager at best)

The Bridge on the River Kwai was made in 1957...3 years prior to
    Nickolson's "Little Shop of Horrors..."

My first credit for Nicholson is "The Cry Baby Killer" (1958).

So I guess it could be true...
