55.0. "DOWVISION? what is its future" by LJOHUB::CRAWFORD () Tue Feb 11 1992 18:53

Is Dowvision_Test still going to migrate to VTX. If that is so, when will
this occur and how will we be able to access it?

Dowvision is a great service. Hope it will continue to be around for some
time in any form.

Thanks for an update on this situation.

    For lots of reasons, it's not getting the full share of my time.

    To really replace Notes, I'll also have to provide some "profiling" so
    that people who only want stories on X, Y, Z, get them mailed to them.

    VTX will support a full text search and more complicated things called
    concept sets as well.
55.2My preference is NotesEICMFG::AJKAnton J. Kuchelmeister, @UFCWed Feb 12 1992 05:422
    Personnally, I prefer DowVision on Notes, - at least with the current
    VTX application.

Out of curiosity, what is the DOWvision V2 soft discussed in Barrons? Is
that the same access as the DOWvision VTX/NOTES is based on?

    I'm very interested in knowing which issue of Barron's had the info to
    which you refer.

    I've spoken about V2 (their server, my client) before. Currently
    DowVision is plugged-into time forward real-time. V2 will allow
    interactive retrieval and content-based access.

55.6About the softwareSDSVAX::SWEENEYPatrick Sweeney in New YorkThu Feb 20 1992 00:4710
    Dow Jones News Retrieval and the PC-based Market Analyzer products
    are point-to-point single session asynch modem connection software.

    DowVision (version 1) is the multiple session client-server software
    that runs over X.25. The content is the broadcast data feeds that you
    can access with VTX or Notes (both servers are running now)

    DowVision (version 2) is going to add the interactive sessions so that
    you can query the full Dow Jones Database and not just the x days
    that I have the disk space to store.

     Since I don't see any other note on the subject in this conference,
     I'll ask:

     How do you access DowVision via notes? I assume a notes conference
     gives more detail as well as the information. It sounds like
     historical data on stock activity...

     Thanks for the information.

I assume that this means I need to:

$ Show log vtx$server
(current server blah blah)
$ define vtx$server sdsvax::"""43="""
$ vtx
$ define vtx$server whatever_it_was_blah_blah

    Patrick,

       I haven't had any luck getting through to the dowvision notes
    conference in a while. Is this just unusual network trouble, or
    is the conference being discontinued?

       As a user, my experience is that the conference still is there.
       In fact, the last time I could connect to it, was the day before
       yesterday. Since yesterday, - problems. I assume that Patrick is
       out of town, he now is in Boston for the DECworld, - and we will
       probably have to wait for his return.

    The host for the Notes Conference, SICVAX took a serious hardware hit.
    I expect it to up later today.

    What are the reasons that recently the entries on volume alert and on
    price alert no longer appear in the DowVision Test notes conference?

Funny you should ask. It has been split into three note files. Read the
notice in DowVision_test 1.0

Anyone know if the DOWVISON news feed into DEC is active anywhere ?
55.21SMURF::SWARDCommon sense is not that commonThu Nov 30 1995 13:596
    I don't think so. I used to be on the realtime mailing list and that
    stopped a while ago. I have since sent mail to everyone I could think
    about and haven't received any reply.
