1531.0. "Washing a wax jacket?" by KALE::ROBERTS () Fri Sep 20 1991 10:52

    What's the best way to clean a wax jacket? In the one I have, there
    are directions inside for how to scrub down the outside of it, but
    nothing about washing the whole thing. There must be some way, right?
    I mean you *sweat* inside there!!

    The hjacket has a detachable hood, and I tried washing that the same
    way I wash sweaters -- gentle cycle, mild soap. Might have been OK if
    I hadn't inadvertently put it in the dryer along with the sweaters.
    But I did, and although it didn't shrink or anything, the wax surface
    is history.

    Any ideas?

    I thinkl you can buy the beeswax and re-coat the hood.....I 've never
    considered washing the inside....I think I would just get some dawn
    or woolite and kinda handwash it and hose it down.

    If you're talking about a Barbour or something like it, I'm pretty sure
    that it can be re-waxed. Barbour sells the wax for their coats. It may
    or may not be compatible with the wax used by other companies.

    This sort of problem is why I voted for Gore-Tex as soon as the piggy
    bank could manage it! That and the *SMELL* of the Barbour coats. I
    never could stomach that
