602.0. "Stalls For Rent/Boarding Wanted" by DELNI::L_MCCORMACK () Thu Jan 12 1989 15:31

There are a lot of scattered notes regarding questions about
boarding stables and stalls. Use this note to post information
about stables in your area or if you have stall(s) to rent.

If you are posting information about another person's stable,
try to stick to the facts only such as location, facilities
available, type of barn (show, pleasure, misc, racing etc),
price, and any other details that noters may be interested in.
Try to omit negative information. If you post the stable,
that in itself is a reccomendation. If not.... that says
    something too.

    Hi!

Just was looking through the notes and noticed that you live in Sudbury!
I graduated from LSRHS in '78! I live in Clover, SC now (work in
Charlotte, NC). We have a barn and two horses, and was wondering
what the going rate would be to board. It seems that things are
cheaper down here, surprized? In the city of Charlotte, full board
can range from $100-200 per month. Out in the sticks where I live,
most folks tend to charge $80-90 per month for full board. We have
yet to figure out exactly how much is costs us to feed our two.
When we do I guess we'll set our price and advertise.

See you around in the notes,

602.14FREEWINDS FARM IN BROOKLINE, NHBRAT::GOULDMaureen Gould * 264-0182 *Tue Oct 04 1988 13:1413
    Hi Sarah!

You could try Freewinds Farm in Brookline, NH. Laurie MacDonald
is the owner. 603-673-7040 or 603-673-4387. Brookline is right
over the border from Lunenburg/Townsend, MA. Great dirt roads &
    trails.

Laurie is very nice and I think the board is reasonable considering
    there's an indoor ring.

    L&S Training Farm
    Leonard & Noella LeBlanc
    Gardner, Mass. 0l440
    Tel 508-632-7537

This is at the current time mainly a Standardbred Training Farm.
Due to the shutdown of Foxboro which has cramped harness racing
in this area, the owners are partially converting to a boarding
    facility.

There are two barns. A new barn with 12x12 box stalls, sliding
doors, metal columns on partitions and doors. Running water,
and electricity. Full board includes turnout, morning/night feed,
shavings, hay and grain, and stablework. $200.00 month.

The second barn is older, with smaller stalls, running water
and electricity. I believe full-board boarders will get stalls
    in the new barn.

There is one main pasture for mares, geldings and youngsters.
There are smaller pastures and fields for stallions, youngsters,
    and racehorses.

There is a riding-ring but the fence will have to be replaced in
the spring. There is also a 1/2 mile training track that is
    graded almost daily.

At this time, the majority of horses are race horses and horses
in training. There are also a couple of riding horses and quite
    a few broodmares.

Note 863.0 Stable near Leominster,Ma.? 3 replies

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a friend who is looking in the Leominster area (or 15 - 20
minutes away) for a stable. She lives in the Rt 12/ Rt. 190 area and
up to now, has been driving down to Grafton where her horse is boarded.

She has done some investigating of the nearby stables but have found
most of them to be higher than she wanted to pay (max $250/month
including board, stall cleaning, and feeding). Currently, her horse
has rough board - no stall, and she wouldn't mind continuing that
mode in order to save money.

    Her priorities are:
    	- good, fairly large turnout areas/paddocks.
        - outdoor ring with some jumps
        - an instructor
        - max price $250/month
        - close to trails

She would like an indoor ring but realizes that she probably won't be
able to afford it. Another thing she would want is a barn that has
some adult riders especially riding english.

Is this impossible to find for the Leominster area?

I boarded my horse with Pat Peeso. She's real good with the horses.
I don't know what her board is now. She just moved her farm within
the past year. When I was with her I believe it was $185 full board
(cleaning stalls, turning out, feeding). I don't know where she
is now but when she was in Princeton, she had two outdoor rings
and miles and miles of trails. I really enjoyed keeping my horse
there with her but unfortunately money problems forced me to sell
    him.

If money is such a large factor, would she be willing to forego
the on site instructor? I board in Holden right off 190 (Malden
Street) for only $150.00. The barn is limited to geldings (owner's
preference because of a previous problem with mares long before
I started there). There is a lighted outdoor ring, large pasture,
daily turnout and great care. If interested, I'll get the number.

Large, privately owned barn with (2) 12x12 box stalls, hay loft,

tack room, attached to ~ 2 acre pasture with more available.

Has lights and water. Lots of trails near by.

Owned by very nice (but) non-horse oriented folks.

                          __________________

You would be required to buy your own hay, grain, etc
as well as perform all usual barn/horse related chores.

The folks who own the property want to keep the barn
occupied with 2 or 3 horses maximum. Even though there
are a total of (4) 12x12 stalls. The quality of the horse
owner(s) ie: their *love* and care of their animals is
far more important than just renting the barn.

We have been renting this barn for over 1 year now. Please
feel free to contact me at DTN: 226-5633 or DELNI::CSILVA
If you'd like more details. Personally, if it wasn't for
the fact that we *finally* bought our own home (and barn)
this place wouldn't be available now!

The property owners are a young couple with 3 very small children.
They DO NOT allow their children or children of their guests to
play in or around the barn. They really are just good, honest folks.

I will not receive (nor do I expect) any pay back for entering this ad
for them. I'm just hoping to assist them in locating a qualified
horse loving boarder/renter for their barn.

Also, Judy Leach at Cross Stone Farm in Lancaster takes boarders.
She does not offer rough board but does offer pasture board for
    less money than for a box stall.  (I have two of my horses there;
one in a stall and one outside) There are two nice big fields with
big run-in sheds so they can get out of the weather (even though they
    rarely choose to).

    HI!

I have yet another barn to toot my horn about:

    MacLeod Farm
    490 Kenoza Street
    Haverhill, MA 01830
    Owner/Manager: Cynthia Sheltry
    Phone: (508) 373-2846

I keep my half Arab here and really, really like the place.
The barn is located 2.2 miles from route 495 (right behind Northern
Essex Community College). It houses approximately 35-40 horses.
The barn consists of an indoor ring with 10 x 12 stalls attached, along
with an outdoor ring and turnout pastures. It is back to back with
Winniekenny Park (which has a castle overlooking Kenoza Lake) which
has great, I mean wide, smooth trails!

Cyndy raises Quarter Horses and has a few youngsters in training now.
She used to be heavy into Reining horses. Now she has a nice mix
of boarders with the majority riding English. She charges 225.00 for
full board which includes daily turnout, feeding & watering and stall
cleaning (mine seems to always be spotless). She is willing to work
out rough board arrangements as neccessary.

Everyone seems as happy as me with this barn. Now I can't wait for
spring to hit those trails again!

Oh yeah, I believe as of this date she has 2 or 3 stalls available.

Please contact Cyndy for further info. I am a Temp here at DEC, so
please feel free to respond to me on the notes file. Since I am
borrowing this account, do not send me a mail message.

602.17Looking for pasture boardDELNI::KEIRANFri Mar 02 1990 12:2314
I am looking for pasture board for my yearling filly for the
summer. I would prefer an in and out situation, though stalls
at night are okay. The time frame would run from about mid-May
to mid-Sep, give or take a couple of weeks. She's extremely
well behaved, easy to handle, and is dying for some playmates!
I can't turn her out with her mother at my house because her
mother kicks. Please send mail to DELNI::KEIRAN if you have
this kind of situation available or know of one.

This is kind of late, but Pat Peso charges $250/month. I was there
last fall and she didn't have any stalls available, although she was
thinking one might come available eventually. Also, her ring isn't
lighted and she plans NOT to light it. Her reason, to me, was that she

602.28Looking for a stable in StowUSPB16::ACONEYFri Jul 27 1990 20:559
My wife Ann has a nice Morgan which she's been stabling in Duxbury, MA. We've
been trying to find a stable in Stow. MA where we live so she can have easier
and more frequent access.

I've got two questions. 1) Anyone know of good, affordable stables in Stow?
			2) What kind of publications list stall openings?

602.29Equine Exchange NewsletterMFGMEM::LEMIRESun Jul 29 1990 16:549
I believe Red Acre Farm (Mitch Steege) is in Stow, MA. He is
hunter/jumper-oriented, and I don't know the board rates.

A good source of info for stalls in the area would be the Equine
Exchange, a free newsletter you should be able to pick up at
tack shops (like Dover Saddlery in Wellesley). Also, Dover would have
listings on the bulletin board of stalls available in the area.

602.33Wanted-A barn closer to homeBOSOX::KUTASHThu Aug 16 1990 16:3728
    Hi,

I have been riding my friends horse for about 4 years now. I have
been the only one riding her since she was 2. She is kept at my
friends barn in Townsend. However, I live in Lowell and since I
am going to school 2 nights a week it is becoming more and more
difficult to get up to the barn to ride. It is at least a 45 min.
drive. That's 1 1/2 that I have to spend on the road. I am thinking
about moving her somewhere closer to me. I am really get depressed
because I can not ride as much as I would like to. My friend doesn't
have a problem with me moving her because she wants her to get the
    attention she deserves.

Does anyone know of anywhere I could board in the Lowell area?
ie; Dracut, Billerica, Chelmsford etc? Unfortunatly I can not afford
much, right now I don't have to pay for anything. But I am willing
to work (stalls, feed, etc) to keep the cost down. I think a small
barn might be best, I know the large farms usually charge around
$300 a month. Thats too high for me!!

Any ideas would be great. I really want to get her closer to home
    I miss her terribly!!

    Thanks,

There used to be a place in W. Chelmsford called Sunny Meadow Farm.
I'll have to look at a map to remember which road its on. All I can
visualize is driving to the rotary, making the 1st right off of it (I
think the one before the route 4 turn off), driving about 1-2 miles and
seeing it on the right. I boarded there when I lived in Lowell. it
was about 8 miles, but a longish ride due to the Chelmsford traffic.

Andrea,

There's a barn in Dracut called Cutter Farm. It is run by someone named Marina
Kokinos who took back her maiden name, but I can't remember what it is.

I know nothing of the care or anything else. I saw the barn once a few years
ago and it seemed nice, but that was basically just walking through it...

I do know that Marina was doing fabulous in combined training the past few
years on a horse named Synergy so she must have some sort of ring/trails/etc.

What about Bedford? There's a barn there named Huckins Farm which also
seems nice...

I don't know that board at either place...

Good luck!

Excellent care, lots of turn out, outdoor sand ring. $300/month

  Hello -

I am looking for a place to board a 1 1/2 year old filly.

She is extremely well mannered and needs to be moved due to her being
beat up by some of the other horses she is pastured with. Her owner
is looking for a place in the Fitchburg area ie: Ashby, Lunenburg,
Shirley, Harvard, etc with a nice box stall and turn out to pasture
either alone, or with a pony or passive horse that won't bully her.

If you know of anyone/anyplace that could accomodate her, please reply.

   Thanks,

I am wondering if anyone has ever heard of Mizpah Stable in Derry,

I live in Weare NH. The horse is currently available for lease but

    Linda,

I visited Mizpah Once, the horse I trained lives there now... Phil!
Anyway, the arena is a smaller one lined with the stalls on both
outer walls, Approx.12 +/- each side. I was very happy to see phil
in a fairly new stall, with light coming through a whitish/type
covered window. I can't tell you about turnouts, what I saw was
2-3 corrals in back about 15 + feet around for the what was described
to be the unruly (I believe they once had a stallion boarded there
that was out there separate from the others). Then there were
oudoor (I'd call them stalls) on the outside wall of the areana,
about 30 feet by 15 all side by side (metal movable type enclosures)
with as I remember a large looked like a field enclosed off behind
the barn that had some horses in it... now from this one visit all
I saw (4 p.m.) was the grounds and visited Phil, but I looked around
a bit and spoke to the girl washing her horse (she has 2-3 there).
She said everyone there is really nice, alot of TB's, they do alot
of eventing and dressage at this farm. Phil is either the 1 or
2nd arab at this place... It was kept very nice and everyone
seemed content, most of all Phil was happy! This was about all
I saw, I only poked around the barn/areana, I didn't do any serious
looking because I was visiting. I can give you directions too!
Its not far of 93 (? or 95 I forget) about 3 miles.. I have them
at home if you need them.

602.44Mitzpah FarmMTADMS::SOLLEYMon Oct 15 1990 16:1018
I put my horse in Mitzpah from Oct 89 to Sept 90. He was treated quite
well. At one time during his stay, there was a bully who kept taking
chunks out of him, however the bully was removed. The stalls are
cleaned dailey. And the people are very friendly, the owners were the
ones who very inexpensively transported him from Sunrise Farm in Pelham
which I would not recommend to their farm, and then again to our new
farm in Warner, NH. These people are quite down to earth and are not
snobs. They work hard to maintain their farm and if you make requests
for your horse it is carried out, if your requests is reasonable. I
have met various people who dislike the barn, but then again - I
dislike people who are so critical when it comes to appearances. Yes,
we had mishaps with our horse and they were corrected. I also
disliked a few of the people in the barn, but that too was remedied by
me riding later in the evenings (9 p.m.) or early Sunday mornings
before 11. There were shots which the barn required and routine
wormings were part of your monthly board fee. Fee is the least
expensive I have seen anywhere which includes the indoor arena.
    My two cents .....

602.58'Situation' available - Mason, NH.TLE::DINGEEThis isn't a rehearsal, you know.Fri Apr 19 1991 14:1153
I have a boarding situation available. It's not for everyone,
	but someone might be interested.

Up until last fall, I kept 2 horses at my house, on 2.5 acres, for
the previous 4 years. At that time, I gave away the mare, and
boarded out my gelding for the winter. He's now coming home again,
and I'd like to know if anyone would like to board their horse
	at my house.

I don't consider 2 horses much more work than 1, and would
appreciate having a buddy for Ray. I have about an acre fenced
in with electric fencing, and a 2-horse (or 2-stall) run-in
shed, that can be closed up during inclement weather (I usually
only closed it during the worst weather in the winter). There
isn't much grazing, but I feed good Canadian hay, free-choice,
	and pellets.

I would charge $100 per month, as that what I've determined it's
costing me to keep my own horse at home. For that, you'd get
feed, water, hay, bedding. If your horse eats a lot, or needs
special food or whatever, you'd have to supply that (I could pick
it up, but you'd have to pay for it). You'd be responsible for
worming, vet, shoes, medications, etc, for your own horse. You'd
have free access to your horse.

I would also ask for your help from time to time, maybe a saturday
night/sunday morning feeding if I wanted to be away (trust me, I
don't travel a whole lot!) if a weekend, or cleaning the stalls
of a weekend. But since they're run-in, they require very little
	work.

I would treat your horse as I'd want mine to be treated - he is
YOUR property, and I would not allow anyone to ride/handle him
without your permission. We would come up with an agreement on
care and responsibility that we'd both sign, before the horse
	came to stay.

I live in Mason, NH, very close to the Massachusetts line. There
is a dirt-road across the street that goes up to a Railroad bed
which has had ties and rails removed; this road also goes to the
Townsend State Forest - 270 acres. The RR bed goes up to the
Russell-Abbott State Forest in Wilton, NH, with many trails
off it. There are miles and miles of trails. Also, within a
20-minute hack, there is a centered-riding instructor who
	teaches dressage, jumping and driving.

So, if you live close, this might be a great deal for you. If
you're interested, send mail, or call DTN 381-1986, or at home
	603-878-3814.

602.65Advice on boarding horses cheapNEMAIL::MARKSDThu Aug 22 1991 19:4820
I'd like to get back into horses after being out of
the "business" for 10 years. Unfortunately I don't
    have alot of money.

Is it unrealistic to hope to find a stable that
charges $150.00 or under per month (for board
and feed)? I live in Grafton and would like to
find something within a 1/2 hour. I'd like to
find a co-op barn where everyone helps out (i.e.
feeding schedule, cleaning stalls etc.) it would
    also cut expenses.

It's been a long time. I'm not sure if I have
    my head in the clouds.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Don't give up, you may find a private situation for around that,
especially where you seem willing to pitch in doing chores. My
brothers' girlfriend boards at a large co-op in Danvers, but the
board is still 350. a month, and most large, public stables are
in that range, so you'd be best to stick to private barns and be
flexible about your requirements (you're almost guaranteed not to
get an indoor arena, but you may luck into nice turnout, etc).
    Good luck!

602.75boarding needed for injured horseGEMVAX::FISHERFri Nov 01 1991 11:5919
I have a friend who's horse was recently injured. She needs
a new place to board as she has new requirements. She is
looking for the following:

1. Close to Sherborn MA
2. 24 hour turnout option. The ideal situation would be a
barn where the horse can go in/out at his will.
3. The obvious great care, etc.

I know the horse extremely well. He honestly has no vices
and is sweet as could be. He's going to be laid up for 6
months minimum and that's probably how long she would want
to board at the new place.

If you know of any place that you would personally
recommend, please contact me via mail.

Thanks,
Dawn

My husband and I will be moving to Nashua this Fall, and my horse will
be moving with us. I'll need someplace to board him in the Nashua
area. I've been looking through recommendations in this file, but most

I'm interested in any info you have about barns in the area. My first
priority is to find someplace where he is well taken care of. I know
that board will be more expensive than it is here (Colorado), but I
    don't know how much.

So, I'd appreciate information on specific barns, care, prices,

What kinds of work do you do with your horse?
    (Dressage, Hunters, Eventing, Western, Driving...)
    Do you need an instructor?
Do you want access to trails?
    Do you show?
Do you need/want access to an indoor?

There are a lot of places to choose from, but where you will be
*happy* depends a lot on what your needs are.

    re .98

I understand that there are lots of factors to consider. Ideally --
yes, I'd like an indoor, yes, I'd like trails, and my horse is used to
pasture turnout daily for about 8 hours.

I ride English and I show on a very low-key level (local schooling shows)
but don't need a competition barn and won't need an instructor for a while.

I thought if I could get an idea of what's in the area, I could decide
which factors to trade-off. And if I can get an idea of what you get
for what price, I can decide how much I"m willing to spend.

    Thanks.

and looked at him and rode him Saturday. My instructor and I also
walked casually through the barn checking on the condition of the other
horses. Everyone looks healthy. The owners says nothing has shipped
in or out in the last month but we don't want to take any chances..

So if you know of someone who used to have horses and doesn't any more

I am trying to find a place to board my horse in the general vicinity
of Littleton/Wesford/Groton/Dunstable/Pepperell. I currently live in
Maynard (but we ar trying to sell our townhouse and move to Dunstable/
Pepperell area) and work in LKG. I know of a few places but I also
know that there are lots of barns out there and would like to find some
more pointers/recommendations. I have a 19 year ols Connemara who
is well mannered and has always been turned out in a group. Some of
    my requirements:
    		1) good turnout (pasture at least part of the time)
    		2) possibility of riding in the evenings
    		3) proximity to some trail riding
    		4) an environment where special treatment is possible (e.g. he
needs to have his front hoofs cleaned after turnout because
of a tendency for thrush and the eggbar shoes. He cannot
wear full pads because of the thrush tendency).
    		5) an environment where finding someone to partially lease
him would be an acceptable option
    		6) board of $300 or less

I do not have to fing anything immediately: spring/summer time frame is
    fine.

Does anybody know of a stable which currently has boarding available
within a 30 minute drive of the Littleton, MA, (where I live) and

    	Full board
    	All day turnout
    	Large (>10 x 10, I have a large horse) stalls
A riding area at least the size of a small dressage arena.
    	Access to trails
Access to a suitable area for driving (my horse rides and drives)

I don't go in for competition any more so I am not interested in a

Having found a new home for my horse (see reply .114) I can say that
there are a fair number of places to board horses in the Greater
Maynard Area. The price range for full board is $250 to $300 per month
for a place without an indoor ring and $400 plus for one with an
indoor. Having made a search list from four sources - this notesfile,
horse newspapers (Horseman's Yankee Pedlar and North East Equine
Journal), adverts on tack and feed store bulletin boards and leads from
present or former Pony Club leaders and instructors - I came up
with a list of four double spaced pages.

I then started phoning those on the list close to where I lived that
appeared to match some of my criteria. I visited six or seven, some of
which had been established for many years and some that were just
starting up. I did not find anywhere that would have been unacceptable
but using my list in .114 one became the obvious choice which is where
I have moved my horse (Fitch Farm in Pepperell).

Hi -

I'm looking for a place to board my aged mare around the Nashua
area. We are basically looking for full board (or at least
a place that will handle the morning feedings) and daily turnout.
She's mostly just a pet these days, so rings, courses, etc. aren't
important. I'm new to the area and am a little nervous about
putting her somewhere I'm not sure of...any recommendations
would be appreciated.

Thanks,

602.129Board needed in the Westminster, Ashburnham, Gardner area.YIELD::STOOKERThu May 04 1995 11:5921
    Hi,

I'm hoping to get back into horses this summer. I had owned a Paint
mare, but when my daughter was born, I found that I had little time to
spare for my horse. This particular horse needed to be worked with
daily and working full time I found that I just couldn't put the time
that was needed into her. So, I had found a woman who bred paints that
offered me a trade. I would give my horse up to her for breeding
purposes until I could have time for a horse again. Well, finally
that time has come. Not only do I want to have a horse again, but my
8 year old daughter has been expressing an interest.

Until we can build something, I need to find a place to board her in
the Westminster, Gardner, Ashburnham area. I would like to find
someplace where the board fee would be around $200 or less. A lot of
the notes in this particular topic are old, so I was wondering if
anyone knew of boarding stables in these areas.

    Thanks for the info.

An acquaintance of mine is looking for a place to board her mare in the
Weare, NH area. She is not interested in a large, expensive facility,
but rather a small, family run place. She does not need training, nor
an indoor arena - the smaller the better for her - preferably just a
backyard owner who has a spare stall. Her mare is a sweet, quiet, and
very well-mannered horse who is easy to work around. Her main interest
is trail-riding, and I don't believe she even cares if there is a ring
available or not. Excellent care and a safe environment are her top
    priorities.

If anyone knows of something, please let me know.
