603.1HOW 'BOUT A PONY CLUBBER?HARDY::REMILLARDMon Jan 09 1989 14:5414
    	Tina,

Check with your neighborhood Pony Club... my sitter is a Pony
Clubber (15 years old) and very reliable. If there is one not
too far from you this may work out fine. I pay her $5.00 a
day to feed/water, clean stalls (if needed) of 2 horses and
to feed one cat. I sometimes leave my two dogs at home and
she also feeds/waters them. If I only need her for the weekend
    	I pay her $20.00.

Works out fine for me - considering boarding one nag would
be AT LEAST $50.00 per week....

I don't have the women's name and address with me today, but will
write myself a note to try and remember it tomorrow. I have kept
in touch with a women from around your area, that does just that
for a business; horse sitting and whatever goes with it. She was
very professional and knowledgeable about animals. I haven't spoke
since (I believe) this past spring so I don't know if she is still
doing it. I'll post the info tomorrow. Wish you weren't so far
away, maybe I could help out. Till tomorrow......

    A couple of possiblities:
Peter Kimball - he lives on clothespin bridge rd so he's not to
far away. He house sits for me when I'm away...does a good job with
the horses (his mother has five). Don't have his number with me,
but he is in directory assist. for webster.
Sigi (can't spell his last name) - he's the trainer for Fireside
arabians in hopkinton. He's going to school and always looking to
    make money 746-5244.
Also you might try calling Parade Acres in concord they always seem
to know someone who can provide any needed horse service. Also try
the county extension service..they might be able to put you in touch
with someone in 4-H who could do it.

603.7`Horse Sitters???'FSHQA1::TLEBLANCFri May 19 1989 19:1412
I was wondering who should take care of my horse while I'm away.
Are there such things as horse sitters? We can never go away for
a weekend. The only person that takes care of my horse is my sister
in law, and she's too afraid to put him out in his pasture. How
can I find a dependable person that isn't afraid of him, so I can
slip away once and awhile? We refuse to make him stay in his stall
for a whole weekend. It's not fair to him. I have a wedding coming
up in two weeks and am stuck. My sister in law really doesn't like
to take care of him at all, and I do not know anyone close enough
that isn't afraid of him. Is there such a thing as a `sitting'
service for him and other animals that travel to your house?

Mass. border. I work in Westboro and it takes me approximately
45 minutes to get to work. It is next to Mendon, Uxbridge, Bellingham,

Can anyone help me in finding a horser-sitter or short-term boarding for our
two horses? We're going on vacation for 2-3 weeks in January, but I thought I
would start looking now. We have never had much luck finding local teenagers.

We live in Georgetown, Massachusetts which is on the North Shore about 10 miles
south of N.H.

Thanks,

Depending on the people, and the number of animals, I am charging
my customers $15-25 per day. At this price some of them are getting
a great deal, since their horses are a lot more work than other
peoples. I would take into consideration things like, are you
staying at their house or do you have to drive there before and after
work, do they have other pets such as dogs that have to be let out
more than twice a day, do you have to do stalls or are the horses
turned out all the time, number of animals, etc. I can tell some
horror stories about taking care of other peoples animals that
were completely unruly, and the people were rather ignorant as to
what is the appropriate way to care for and house animals. This one
woman whose horses I fed had just built a new barn, and only finished
one stall off. She put the horse in the stall and tied the 3 ponies
to screw-eyes that were screwed into 1/4 inch plywood. I would have
left all of them out but it was during an ice storm. Needless to say,
2 of the ponies got loose and completely ransacked the barn, pulling
tack off the walls, ripping bales of hay apart, tipping grain barrels
over etc. I ended up sticking the two ponies in the stall together,
and tying the horse in a standing stall. She also had a dog whose
favorite habit was trying to bite the horses in the face. All of this
for $10 a day??? Never again!! Just make sure you are getting well
paid in proportion for the work you are doing!

My local horse sitter will feed and water 2 times a day for $3.00
Of course this doesn't include stall cleaning and my horses have
come and go privleges. This is fine for a weekend away, for longer
times I get a family member to care for the three of them.

603.17Someone to turn my horse out in MARCH 1990!CASPRO::MCNUTT_KFri Jan 19 1990 14:1918
I was wondering if anyone in "NOTES LAND" lives around the Acton/
Boxboro area and would be available to either put my horese out in the
morning with her hay/grain OR bring her in, in the evening. This may
sound like a strange request, but my sister is willing to do one or the
other while I am on vacation the week of March 23 through April 1,
1990. She will clean Tibbits stall and prepare everything for the
morning or evening depending on which would be easier. The reason she
cannot do both feedings is she lives in Mansfield (45 minutes from my
house) and doesn't want to commute twice a day.

So if you live near Boxboro or commute (to or from work) via 495 or
Route 2, I live only 5 minutes from these highways, maybe you could
stop by for 5 minutes to turn her out or in.

If you are interested or know of someone who would be interested,
please call or write me at CASPRO::MCNUTT_K or DTN:272-7091.

Thank you... Kerry & Tibbits :)

I occasionally pet-sit (and horse-sit) for friends.

Since I'm horseless right now, and (believe it or not) sort of miss
doing a stall now and then, I've got a little bit of free time that
I'd just as soon spend visiting a horse as not. Send me mail if you
need a sitter in the Westford, MA or Nashua NH areas (including
Chelmsford, Littleton, Groton, Dunstable, Pepperell, Hollis...).

I'm going to be away for almost two weeks, leaving on Saturday, October 17th
    and returning around the 30th.

I have someone to feed and take care of the horses (8) but I'd like
to find someone to help her with stalls. I do them all every morning
before I leave but it's a big chore if you're not used to getting up
at 5:00. (Plus she'll be taking care of my cats and my birds...I don't
    want to push my luck!).

603.29Southern NH sitter soughtDEVMKO::BROWN_JI llove my llamas!Wed Jun 30 1993 01:1427
We don't have horses, but llamas are kind of similar (compared
to say dogs) so I thought this might be a good place to
ask. Anyone comfortable around larger animals like horses
would do fine caring for llamas, but it might overwhelm
someone who normally only does goldfish!

We're looking for a pet sitter for our assorted menagerie,
as it says in the title: dogs, cats and llamas.

Any recommendations for someone in the Southern NH area
who would take on a job like that? We live in Wilton
which is about 20 miles west of Nashua and are looking
for someone to come twice a day to feed/water/scoop. I'd
love to find someone who would "live in" but that's not
absolutely required.

We are just getting into showing the llamas and expect to
be away for several weekends/overnights (meaning they'd
just have dogs and cats to sit for) but we also need some
one for vacations and holidays (neither of our sets of
parents travel so it means we go there).

All suggestions greatly appreciated, we haven't been
totally satisfied with the woman we're using now and
would like to find someone new and improved.

re: .29 We've only had one response to my search for
a pet sitter and that didn't work out, so now I'm really
starting to worry. We need a sitter for the weekend of
Aug. 8 and I haven't found anyone yet.

Can anyone provide suggestions on how I go about finding
a sitter? Since my earlier request didn't turn up any
specific names, now I'm looking for suggestions on how
else I can find someone -- how do y'all find someone to
look after your horses when you go away? I'm not aware
of stables or such, I don't have a network of resources
to consult. Can you help?

    Jan,

Check with your vet. Sometimes the vet techs will do pet
    sitting.

Check with the local tack/feed stores. Sometimes they have bulletin
boards with such offers. You might also leave a wanted ad at both
the feed store and the vets.

Are there any local stables nearby? Might also ask there.

Good luck. Good pet sitters are hard to find.
