    Packard Trailers is the largest horse trailer dealer in the Greater
    Maynard Area and is located somewhere near you on the south side of
    Boston. They would be a good place to start looking.

    I would recommend Packard as well, my trailer originally came from
    there. It's a Miley (I don't believe they make them anymore) and is
    in excellent condition. It's had the normal maintainance over the
    years (it's a 1978 model) and has held up superbly. They advertise
    in the Pedlar and I've seen them in other magazines as well.
    

George Yered of Yered Trailer Sales (used to be in Needham Heights) also seems
to do a pretty big business. Maybe someone has his new phone number and 
address?

I would like to put a strong recommendation in for Heritage Carriage.
Henry Tinkham is the proprietor.  We had nothing but good service from
him.  We purchased a 1992 Bison stock trailer.  The trailer had received
a little damage (caused by Henry when he brought it back from Indiana).
The damage was just a little scratch and dent.  Well, he agreed to fix it
with no questions, and you could never tell it was ever damaged when they
got finished.

He deals in Bison, Merhow, and other trailers.  His price was reasonable.
And when I asked him to come down further, even though he would not, he
did agree to put the hitch on our truck at only the cost of parts.

His work was professional.  His manner was great.  He even loaned us the
use of his truck for the 4-5 hours he needed our truck to put the hitch
on.

He also makes, and refurbishes, buggies and carriages.  His work is
superb.

We have just about decided we need a trailer for the llamas --
or rather THEY have decided (my young stud doesn't think he
fits in the back of my Dodge Caravan any more and he has
two more years of growing to do).  

Is there anyone in the southern NH area that you'd recommend
for trailers?  Since we know nothing about them it seems safer
to buy from a reputable dealer rather than through want ads --
we could easily buy something unsafe or overpriced and not
know any better.  Used is fine and even preferred if that
makes any difference in your recommendation.

So, who should we call?

    I bought a C & M brand trailer, made somewhere out west, from
    Mike Townsend, at Townsends Training farm in Pembroke, N.H

    This was the only new trailer I could afford, I think (and I have had
    many opinions since) that the quality is very good.  New trailer at
    used trailer prices.  I've been using it since spring and the only
    negative is that it's hot without the top doors removed and for me
    they are not easy to remove, has a top vent but no front window that
    opens.  It's not aluminum, but it's also not the aluminum price.

    A friend just bought a custom trailer and he said he was told
    that new trailers won't have the front windows anymore.  He said it's
    because of the condensation that accumulates in the area and rots
    the body out.
    
    I bought a new stock trailer in 88 for not a lot of money, S & S is
    the brand name and they went out of business.  It's served me real
    well, and doesn't owe me a dime!  It's quality is probably average, 
    definatly not the best, but I couldn't affordthe best at the time.  
    I would like to upgrade in the future.
    
    Check the Yankee Pedlar, they always have all the trailer dealer adds
    through out the paper.

What is the Yankee Pedlar and where do I get it?  And how
do I tell who is a "good" dealer and who isn't -- or can I
assume that they are all about equal?  I was hoping for
some specific recommendations since the best ad doesn't
always mean the best business and we have no experience with
trailers.

Thanks to those who have replied so far, anybody else 
have a reference?

The Horsemans Yankee Pedlar is available at most tack and grain stores

    About 5 years ago, I bought a Miley that originally came from Packard
    Trailer Sales (I don't know if they are still in business). I don't 
    believe Miley's are made anymore, but I could be wrong. I paid $1K.
    It's a 1978 model, and in excellent condition still. The floor has
    been replaced once, and it's starting to need it's first paint job, but
    structurally it is fantastic. It has tinted front windows that do not
    open, but has duel roof vents, bus windows and small round vents on
    each side. Two escape doors, and two sets of small doors above the
    ramp. The very top set of doors are easily removable, and I do take
    them off for summer use. It's fully padded, has a removable divider
    that also comes apart lengthwise to be used either extending fully to
    the floor or only partially, has a stallion guard and removable head
    divider, and internal lights. I did get a very good price, but I also
    believe that if you can find an older Miley they seem to be excellent
    quality (the others I have seen besides my own were in great shape,
    too). 
    
    As far as reputable dealers, I bought mine private sale so I really
    cant' say. I generally prefer to go private sale on cars and such,
    anyway. :-)

I just bought a brand new Kingston Aluminum 2 horse Thoroughbred Deluxe trailer
with a dressing room from Orchard Trailer Sales in Belchertown (MA). This was
the first new trailer we have bought and the experience we had at Orchard was
fantastic.

We traded in our 1983 Kingston and got a great price for it (what I would
have asked if I sold it myself) so they will work with you. They will take
any brand name trailer as a trade in (pending it's condition). Also, they will
show you the price list from Kingston for your trailer and any options
you choose then discount the whole thing on the spot! I can't say enough about
how easy it was to get exactly what I wanted.

When it came time to ask about the delivery schedule they had said 4 to 6 weeks
which I thought was good. My wife on the other hand had hoped to have the new
trailer in time for her Event at King Oak Farm (MA) which was only 3 and a 
half weeks away. We had ordered a custom paint and a couple other custom items 
which I figured would bring the delivery time out to the full 6 weeks. No way! 
James Maloney at Orchard was in touch with Kingston from the time the order 
went in and we took delivery of the trailer the Friday before the Sunday King 
Oak Event only 3 and half weeks after we ordered it!

Their yard is full of trailers (more than I have seen at any other dealer) and
they have quite a mix- 2 horse, 4 horse, slant loads, tag-alongs, goosenecks,
steel, aluminum, and even the new composite material trailers. They do carry 
both Kingston and Sundowner but if you want something else they can probably
get it from their other dealer friends.


I would strongly recommend them to anyone in the market for a trailer. They
are friendly, responsive, and true professionals. They also helped us with
getting the truck set up for the electric brakes at a local shop they do
business with. It's like one stop shopping!

    Yered Trailers is now in Medfield, MA.  George Yered has been in the
    business for over twenty years and has clients from all over New
    England (he even ships overseas).  He is honest, trustworthy, and his
    installations are top-notch.  I picked up a Trailers USA 2H (steel
    frame, aluminum skin) with dressing room from him yesterday and am
    completely satisfied.
    
    George also does bedliners, hitches, and all that stuff.
