1190.2Livery Yards near Basingstoke (UK)?UBOHUB::SKELT_JJulian Skelt @UBO, DTN 843 6067Tue Jan 15 1991 15:4254
Does anybody have recommendations for livery yards in the Basingstoke
(UK) area? I've been at the same yard for 5 years because the service
and facilities are excellent. Unfortunately their prices have risen
somewhat over the last year so I find myself regretfully investigating
      alternatives.

My present job dictates full stabled livery. For facilities I need a
minimum of an all-weather floodlit arena and somewhere to park my
trailer. I also need frequent access up to about 8pm in the evening.

The horse is a bay thoroughbred mare, about 16hh, with no vices, and
      happy with hay and straw.

My main interest is riding club competitions, and I'm aiming at BHS
eventing this coming season. I ride 4 or 5 times most weeks (weekends
and evenings) and I take schooling fairly seriously.

      The absolute minimum is:
      - Full livery comprising feed, bedding and regular monitoring for
          sickness or injury.
      - All-weather floodlit arena.
      - Daily turnout (or exercise).
      - Somewhere to park my trailer.

      Plus points would be:
      - Indoor school.
      - Show jumping and cross country facilities.
      - Good local hacking.
      - Speciality (if any) eventing or dressage.
      - Preparation for competitions.
      - On-site or associated riding club.
      - On-site social facilities.
      - On-site competitions, lecture/demos etc.

It doesn't need to be a large commercial operation. A small private
yard would be fine as long as they are knowledgeable and friendly.

In the first instance I'm looking within a 20 mile radius of Chineham
(north Basingstoke), the closer the better. There's no point in
saving money on livery to spend it on petrol.

The plan is to look at possible yards over the next few weeks, and
move at the beginning of April in order to maximise the probability of
stable vacancies as horses are turned out to grass.

My final decision will be made on an assessment of facilities and
      location as well as price.

Can anybody help? Please don't post responses regarding places to
avoid, anonymous 'phone calls will be fine!

      Thanks in advance,

      Julian

Have you had any luck in finding a suitable yard. If not I know
of one that may be suitable about 3 miles from Aldermaston village.
It is on the south side of Bucklebury Common - great hacking
country, indoor school, was offering part or full livery. Good grazing
with post and rail paddocks, large brick built stables. Run by a
very experienced horsewoman who really cares for all horses and ponies
in her charge. Well placed for Tadley & District or Berkshire Riding
    clubs.

If interested, let me know and I'll bring in the 'phone number.

I'm looking for livery recommendations in the Reading area,
preferable within reasonable driving distance of Decpark i.e.
	close enough for lunchtime access.

I'm after a full livery and would prefer a private yard with
no commercial hacking, but will look at anything.

The horse in question is a 16hh2" tb/Danish warmblood 10yro,
beautiful stable manners, but can be a difficult ride, hence
	the full livery requirement.

	Any suggestions welcome!

	Jonathan.
