1625.1Jones Radio sells EVERYTHING !SUBURB::JASPERTTue Dec 10 1991 17:4210
    I haven't been a CBer for several years, & I regret selling my rig.
    (anyone got one for sale,(cheapish) ?
    So I guess Cats Whisker, Chatham St precinct, is no longer there, but I
    have seen a good range of CB in Jones Radio, Oxford Rd, Reading.
    They're near Riley's Snooker Hall, far as I can remember, certainly on
    that side of the road. More old info, there was a shop at Spencers
    Wood, at the A327 triangle, I think they sell videos now.

    prepared to sell it for the price of a couple of full price CD's.

    Anyone interested?

Does anyone know if UK CBs are legal in France?

Jc
1625.9I think not....COMICS::COOMBERInverted Flight ExpertMon Feb 03 1992 16:348
    I'm pretty sure the answer is NO!

    	Last I looked at taking radio equipment , legal, into france it was
    one hell of a performance , so much so that I gave the idea up. It may
    have changed as this was some time ago. But we are talking about
    france.

    I think the CEPT complient ones are.

1625.11I wouldn't....SBPEXE::PREECEJust gimme the VAX, ma'am...Wed Feb 05 1992 17:2813
    Last time I checked, definitely not!

    As always, French and British standards are different, and you could be
    faced with having to remove the equipment from your car on entry and
    collect it again on the way out.

    They're getting touchy about UK car-phones "sur le continent", these
    days, too.

    ...and as for sitting in that little bit of coverage overlap in Calais,
    using your Vodafone, well....  ;-)

CEPT is the european standard. You can get CEPT complient radios in the UK.
I believe they are the same as the old AM frequencies, but using FM. I can't
remember what CEPT stands for but can find out.

1625.16UK != FRBRUMMY::MARTIN::BELLMartin Bell, Central PSC, Birmingham UKFri Sep 16 1994 18:4213
John,

	i don't think (.8) so at the moment, but very soon the UK will
be "coming in line with Europe" and adopting the CEPT standard (or
something), so the old 27/81 (or whatever it was) UK frequencies will
eventually be replaced be pan-Europe stuff. Thus the new UK CBs will
be legal!!!

p.s.

Are there any CBers out there in UK_CARS?
1625.17Yes - CEPT OK in FranceCHEFS::SURPLICEKMon Sep 19 1994 15:194
    Today in the UK you can buy two types of CB
    	- UK only frequencies
    	- Europe-wide frequencies (CEPT as mentioned before) for UK & Eur
    Both are readily available. The CEPT stuff is valid in France.

    FWIW, I went in to Tandy in Basingstoke on Friday to buy some cable
    ties (99p) for the PC, and came out with a "paint damaged" CB fror 25
    squids, a "paint damaged" SWR meter for 3 squids and 15 for a mag-mount
    antenna (with no paint!). Now I've some new toys to play with and if I
    don't like what I hear on the radio, I can answer back :-)

    The paint damage was minimal - they had the shop re-fitted by some
    cowboy decorators and they left a fine white mist on most bits of the
    stock!

    All I'm short of is a lead from the rig to the SWR meter! (the radio
    equiv of a null-modem cable).

    Jc

    P.S. I had to go back on Monday to repcale the handset which had a
    dodgey wire - no problems with the exchange.

    P.P.S. I forgot to buy the cable ties :-)
1625.21Coax for saleSUBURB::FRENCHSSemper in excernereWed Sep 21 1994 12:466
    For say, 30 meters of Tandy coax suitable for HF (ie CB).

    Make me an offer you can't refuse.

1625.22CEPT is OK and peacefulCHEFS::SURPLICEKThu Sep 22 1994 13:255
    CEPT (i.e. Euro-wide CB radio sets) are valid in the UK. They were
    introduced/legalised at least 4 years ago. However, it is quite true that
    all the chit chat is on the UK only sets. If you know who you want to
    talk to, and need some clear airways all to yourself and your contact,
    CEPT can be an advantage since it is in effect more quiet/private.
