1787.0. "Lost tax disk" by MAJORS::CLIFFE (The FAR SIDE is getting nearer) Mon Jun 08 1992 14:33

I wonder if anbody has "lost" their tax disk.

If so, what is the procedure for getting a replacement ?

This is a private car, and we just noticed it was missing last night,
not long after it had been in the garage.
   - enough said as to my suspicions :-)

We lost a tax disk once - but I can't remember the details of what
I had to do - I think I started by 'phoning Swansea. It's not an
unusual problem, and they have a system to sort it out, and send you
    a replacement Tax disk.

You should certainly tell the police.

I "lost" the tax disk from my Spitfire (years ago), got a duplicate
from Swansea (there's a form - naturally - I expect you can get it from
main Post Offices, though I'm not sure). Months later, I had a visit
from a policeman who had the original tax disk - clumsily altered by
the "finder". He told me that the said "finder" was jailed for
something like 9 months for fraud.

I too lost a tax disc, from my Jeep.

A replacement cost, I think, two pounds.

Another time I *almost* lost a tax disc was when my windscreen
shattered driving along the motoway. I managed to get to the
hard shoulder with no further problem (very little traffic at the time)
and then pulled out the remainder of the screen and left this in a
pile on the grass to the side of the road. Once I had driven home,
slowly I might add, I got a new screen replaced quite quickly, then
remembered the tax disc ! I had to drive down the motorway and back
again, trying to work out where my screen actually broke. When I
spotted the right place, I had to delve through the pile of broken
glass to find my disc. Just a point to consider if you are ever
unfortunate enough to have a toughened screen smash on your car...

I lost my tax dusc when the windscreen broke.

I phoned Swansea who sent me a form

About a couple of weeks after I lost the disc, some kind sole found
it on the pavement and handed it to the police - who brought it around
	to me.

I have no idea what they thought I would do with two!

Thanks for the replies, I'll phone Swansea and progress from there.

    Tom,

My Dad lost his tax disk. He got the required form from the Post
Office. You need to send it off or go in person to the local DLVC
office there is one in Guildford.

    Cheers...Norm
