22.0. "Ginetta Cars Ltd." by HAVOC::MOSS () Sun Dec 27 1987 21:37

Ok, I give in. In response to Mr. Deighton, here it is; a note devoted
to my primary 4 wheel love - Ginetta Cars Ltd.

This is the forum for all you thousands of Ginetta owners out there
to discuss your cars. No notes pertaining to problems will be allowed
    - Ginettas don't have problems, they're far too wonderful to succumb
to the afflictions of conventional hacks. You are allowed to discuss
the "quirks" and "personality traits" of your particular model -
this is, of course, the closest any Ginetta comes to having something
    as mundane as a problem. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

    Potted History :
Ginetta Cars is based in Witham, Essex, and is run by the brothers
Walklett. Started in 1958, with the launch of the G1, Ginetta has
produced a total of approximately 20 different models since then.
Most of Ginetta's output have been racing cars, particularly in
the early years, although the Wlklett brothers' efforts are mainly
concentrated on road-going sports cars now.

    Currently available models :

GRS Tora - Range Rover style utility, 4/6 seater.

    G26/28/29/30/31 - variations on a theme, all 2 door, with 2+2 or
full 4 passenger cabins. The different numbers relate to the
front/rear styling - flush or pop-up lights, coupe, notchback,
    	fastback rears, and combinations thereof.

G27 - 2 seater, open top, MG Midget type. Primarily a racing car,
but can be supplied road-legal. Pop-up lights, with another
variation of the Cobra-beating G10's IRS (also found under the
    	G4R, G12, G21 V6 etc). This is the '80s version of the G4 and
G4/IV, and goes like it ! Front engine, rear drive.

G32 - Small mid-engined 2 seater, built around the Escort Mk III
powerplant. Designed to take the RS Turbo motor, uses Escort
suspension. Supplied only as a fully built car. Was originally
the G25 (designed round Fiesta bits), but wasn't quick enough,
lost out to the MR2. Redesigned round Escort bits, and no longer
harried by MR2s - they can't even get close !

22.31Ginetta changes hands after 30 years.CURRNT::SAXBYIsn't it 5.30 yet?Fri Jan 12 1990 12:5718

Is Charles Moss still out there?

Anyway, Ginetta have been sold by the Walklett brothers to a consortium
of British businessmen. At least one of the brothers remains on
the board, but the cost of bringing the G32 (a real cracker according
to the reports I've read) to the market has meant that they couldn't
keep control of the company they've owned for over 30 years (a quote
was that they'd rather sell the company than see it go bust).

So Ginetta may change direction, especially if the G32 is the success
all reports so far suggest it should be.

There is also an article on the G4 and it's latterday cousin the
G27 in the latest Kit Cars International magazine. How long before
they run an article on the Marcos 3 Litre GT and the Mantula?

What's this 'instead of' business????? :-) (Maybe I'll trade the

Yes there is a G33 at the NEC, and it looks like an out and out
racer, there is also a G12 on the display which I assume you crawl into
on your hands and knees. I've seen bigger pedal cars but this thing had
    a roof!

	Hi,
I'm English car lover in Japan.
I love GINNETA beside old LOTUS.

If you own(or owned) G12, tell me you impression of that.

I saw the address for Ginetta a few notes back. Is this still valid and
does anybody have the phone number?

Also the address and phone number of the owners club would be helpful.

Re. .36 Gone off TVRs have we. Sensible decision. Go for a car with
smooth curves, not one of those TR7 look-a-likes ;^)

    Thanks in advance.

I remember seeing the Top Gear review on the latest Ginetta (i think it
was the G32) and got immediately jealous of the reviewer and the people who
are lucky enough to have one !!

Have any of you lot got one then ??

I was well impressed with the look, style, handling and most of all the
roar of the engine as the reviewer pulled away (lucky git).......in the
future I WILL have one but for now I'm happy with my spitfire..

    Laurie,
The address you got from Your Classic is in fact out of date and
is the address for dave baker the previous secretary who stood down at
the last AGM. Your Classic should know better as they featured fred
jones,s G15 (the new secretary) in their magazine a couple of month's
back and announced he was the new secretary.

p.s If you have a list of all the club addresses could you post the
    hillman imp club address.

    Elaine,
I need a new gear stick assy and two rear wishbones initially,
although i,m not sure of the state of the engine and gearbox which I
haven,t had running yet, so engine parts may be helpful as well.
If you could let me know what you have I,d appreciate it.

Re -2; I too have a selction of Imp bits in my garage from a G15 I sold
4 years ago - mostly engine but let me know if there's anything
specific and I'll rummage around (unfortunately I'm up in Ayr, so
delivery could be difficult!). I'd be interested in any comments on
the G15 (perhaps a brief history?) as I'm still sad at having sold
mine - but that's another story.

22.52Ginetta G15VIVIAN::A_KINGWed Dec 11 1991 18:3210
Re -1; I am not likely to know exactly what engine parts (if any) I'll
need for a few months yet, although I'm pretty certain I'll need a
    distributor. As for comments on my G15, it's a type 4 with a 998cc
engine. the body is in good condition but mechanically it is in poor
condition and I haven't driven it yet, so I can't comment on driving it
yet, but I've got a biased opinion anyway.
It is currently stripped down awaiting a new chassis (which I'm saving up
for). I'll have to make do with the G21 until I get the G15 finished.

22.55I have seen a GLISVAX::BRITOWed Apr 22 1992 17:438
Yesterday I saw I car that looked like a convertible, had no bumpers,
had a front badge with something that could be a G. I didn't find it the
particularly nice but when I heard the engine it really got may
attention. It sounded like having a V8 or something of the sort. Could
this be a Ginneta? There's another detail. The shape of the rear
looked a bit like the old American Thunderbird.

I saw a picture of the G33 yesterday.

The details sounded nice and the car looked good. Apparently there's a
dealer in Henley who has one but it's sold.

No price was given, but it is a V8. 0-60 was 4.8 secs.
