1611.0. "Petrol Stations in/around Reading area." by KERNEL::BAYLISD (I know pigs exist, therefore...) Sun Nov 24 1991 11:35

Did you know that the Weldale Renault dealer in Earley, (at the Three
Tuns crossroads) is closing down at the beginning of December to be
replaced with another petrol station !. To add to this the old Vincents
BMW Garage, (I think it was also a Lada grage for a while) also in
Earley, is going to be replaced with a petrol station.

This is getting ridiculous !. What's the point ?. Surely there's enough
petrol stations around this area already ?, (How often do you see a
queue ?, and if you do you just drive next door to another one !!).

The prices are nearly always the same, (unless it's a JET garage, which
these new ones aren't, one's a BP and the others an ESSO garage I
think). Price competition is decided upon by the big bosses of the
    petrol stations.

Oh yeah, I might be mistaken on this but didn't the residents of Lower
Earley decide to have a Petrol Station built next door to Asda ?.

Any others feel this way ?

    Petrol City man...

    Dave.

Could this all have something to do with Weldale losing the Renault
franchise but only having a use of the site as a "garage" and with
those big tanks in the ground, cannot do anything else ?

The sales guy at DTM in Swindon, who provided my Renault, told me that
they had got a new Renault dealership opening up in Chatham St in what
used to be the Fiat garage. Apparently it is due to open in December
sometime. I guess Reading can't support two dealerships so close to each
other so one had to go.

So hopefully soon I won't have to take my car to Bracknell for its
    services.

    Cheers,

    Spike.
