1627.0. "accidents will happen" by UFHIS::GVIPOND () Wed Dec 11 1991 12:43

Anyone know what the proceadure is for pursuing accidents between 2
    deccie's. Here's the Story.

My car was parked ( in a car parking spot ) when another Deccie ran
into it. She has an AVIS car and no insurance cover ( ie Dec will pick
up the bill not Avis ). Should we just exchange names etc and should I
pursue it through AVIS or do I just get it fixed and send the bill to
DEC insurance/purchaseing. Anybody had a simular experience ? advice
would be welcome or a telephone number of the Insurance dept in the UK
    would be good.

As an aside this happened in Germany and she's on a one day visit from
    the UK.

I haven't got a clue what the laws/insurance policies are like in Germany.
However, assuming that it's similar to the UK, then Third Party damage (i.e. the
damage to your car) would be AVIS's responsibility. It is only damage to the
Hire Car itself which would be Digital's responsibility.

Therefore, you need to pursue AVIS.

Unless it was a UK AVIS car, then the UK Ins. dept. is going to be naff all good
to you. Even then, you'd be referred to AVIS.

However, unless the damage is VERY minor, do not get it repaired without
agreeing with AVIS that you may do so. If you have to, then keep the old/damaged
bits.

How much damage is there ? Is the car driveable legally ?

A UK Deccie in Germany driving a German hired Avis car will have Third
Party insurance as part of the rental cost from Avis. Your claim is
therefore against Avis Germany and the costs will not touch DEC at all.

Any damage to the Avis car will be charged, up to the local limit of
the CDW to the renter's credit card and will be recovered from the
    renters cost centre via Expenses.

Firstly I tried that number but got a message from, I assume BT saying
the number had changed from 85 to 02 ( I know it starts 86 but thats
    the info I got )

Secondly its all sorted, as previuos replies have stated AVIS will pay.

    Many thanks.

1627.6AVIS and insurance, but not an accidentXNOGOV::HELENMon Dec 16 1991 17:519
Not quite the right place for this I know, but, given that AVIS and
insurance are involved, it kinda fits....

If you are hiring a car in the US, what is the insurance status if you
are under 25. I have been told both stories...

    Any thoughts appreciated,

I'm under 25 and have hired an Avis car while in the US with no
problems. I don't recall paying anything extra for CDW, PAI etc but I
didn't have an accident so I don't know whether I was right or not...!

Before going, I was told that I could not hire a car in the US. Then
whilst I was over there I happened to go to the Hertz desk with a
friend who was hiring a car, and I asked her, as far as she was
concerned there was no problem with me hiring a car.

ps. This is for the under 25's!
