2373.0. "Fiesta Si" by KERNEL::SMITHERSJ (Living on the culinary edge....) Tue Feb 07 1995 14:50

Does anyone know whether the Fiesta Si currently on offer is a
replacement for the XR2, or if the XR2 is still available?

I'm looking at getting one on the scheme but obviously at the
moment I haven't the foggiest how much it will cost. Can
someone who has had one quoted when the old scheme was in place
let me know how much they paid so that I can try and make a
comparison (like stick my finger in the air).

    Cheers

I think it goes something like this :-

The Si is not a direct replacement for the XR2. Thanks to insurance
companies Ford no longer make the XR2 (correct me if I'm wrong,
anybody). The Si has the same engine, but for some reason produces
pitiful performance so that it can be insured. 0-60 in 11.5 seconds, do
you fancy an MG Metro keeping up with you?!

To be quite honest with you, why do you want a Fiesta? I presume it's
customer loyalty to Ford? There really are a hell of a load of better
cars out there (not that I've driven an Si specifically, but from what
I've heard/read everywhere and based on previous experiences with other
    Fiesta models).

So, in answer to your question, no the Si is not a replacement for the
XR2, in that it is in no way a performance model.

    Cheers,
    Dan

In 1991 I had a few quotes for an XR2i. This was on the old scheme
and it worked out at zero cost including a few extras.

Put a quote in by all means but you will probably get a much better
    deal with a Vauxhall.

My advice is check out the Corsa SRi or GSi which are actually cheaper
on the lease scheme this year and are very good value.

No, its a toss up now between the Astra GLS or Sport dependant on
another note string somewhere on performance.
