    Hello, I'm Hans Duinhoven. Currently I'm driving a Peugeot 505 1.8.
It's using LPG as fuel, which is very cheap to drive in
    Holland.(clean to!)
Due to Tax changes I'm forced to change to lease car.
This will be a Citroen BX TGI break. (estate)
I've driven the BX diesel estate before, which was very comfy &
    reliable.
I'd like to drive an MG B GT chrome bumper.
Any advise, pls send mail to HOO78C::DUINHOVEN

3.277Hello !THAV07::NAGAHASHIKazunari Nagahashi SWS/DEC-JapanFri Jan 05 1990 19:0427
Well for me to get to you. I've been reading this note for
about 6 months now, and I decided to start my introduction.

I'm Kazunari Nagahashi and working at Tokyo Japan as SWS
engineer. I've been much into car for about 5 years, and
got a '89 Mazda RX-7 turbo now. It drives like a porche, I
love it. I always listen to Heavy Metal while I'm driving.
A car and a Heavy Metal are part of my life :-).

        My past cars are:

        	Isuzu	Gemini	1800cc.
        	Isuzu	Aska	2000cc turbo.
        	Isuzu	Aska	2000cc Diesel.
(That it is fuel consumption is only a good point)

All of my past cars were made by Isuzu, coz my father belongs
to there and I could buy them a reasonable price. But I hate
them due to boring engine. So I concluded that I bought a
        *COOL* RX-7 ;-).

And my future cars are.....when I get more money ;-).

        Cheers,

        Kazunari.

Thanks for the pointer on AIR_COOLED conference.

The 914 is really a nice car but as I said before the engine power is
too low. The best things of this car is the engine in the middle which
permit a very particulary driving. In fact the car hold the road
extremely well (like glue) but when the back split, it is very
difficult to take it in the road.

Hi,
My name is Kevin Maher. I'm Irish. I work for the End User Computing
Tools Consultancy Group. We are based in Reading DP1. My profile title may be
a little confusing, but when I lived in Ireland I spent many happy hours in my
Dad's Lancia Delta HF 2.0 Turbo (Front Wheel Drive). He's still dreaming about
an Integrale. But alas he lives in Ireland, and autos are extremely expensive
in the Emerald Isle. Anyway I hope to take delivery of the R5 anyday now. Anyone
out there with some prior experience of one of these ?

Regards,

I think this is more relevant to the 'who isn't out there anymore' ,
but i couldn't find that topic...

Anyway, after tomorrow it's off down to support the lads in Sardinia,
and then a period of hasty phone calls and 'notes' drying out.

I suppose that one of the highlights has been my 'contribution' to
Euro_motoring. It's not often you are responsible (unintentionally

What I heard for the World Cup was the following:

If the Czechs win the final then they get a Skoda each.
If the UAE had qualified for the second round then they would have received
a Testarossa each.
The guy who scored the UAE only goal was awarded a Rolls Royce of some

I suppose it's about time I put an entry in here, so here goes:

Name: Dick Henneman

Loc: Newbury VANS engineering

Previous cars (and this goes waaaaaaaaay back)

Ford Prefect E93A (special 3 door model - rusted shut rear o/s door)
	Ford Popular 100E
Morris Minivan - stage 1 tune, lowered, 5Js, etc

End of student days - got married!

Hillman Imp - wrote it off - my fault
Land Rover SWB Petrol Safari IIA - ain't gonna write this one off!
	Fiat 124 Estate - what_a_mistake_a_to_make_a
Volvo 122S - when they made real cars without Armco
MG Midget - nuff said - really for Shirley (sexist pig!)
Lotus Elan S4 - Big valve head - fast cams - beautiful. This one was
for me! If only I hadn't sold it (sob).
Chevette - company hack - engine fell out at 34000 miles
Opel Ascona 2.0 GL - not bad
Chrysler Alpine - great load carrier for camping. This was a special
			  model without the tappet noise
AlfaSud Ti - lovely Boxer engine, good handling, shame about the
gear selection and the body rot
Ford Fiesta - wife and baby daughter mover
Cavalier SRi (2) - liked it so much, that I bought another
	Metro 1.3L - Fiesta replacement
Escort RS Turbo - lotsa problems, but when they were sorted - not bad

Current cars

Citroen BX 16V - full of gallic charm, but a nice engine. Might get
			 another, but with aircon
Westfield 7SE - replacement for Metro (yes - really). Engine is bog
1600 Kent with twin 40DCOEs and 4-2-1 exhaust. 84bhp at
wheels on dyno. Autumnal plans for Oselli rebuild to
strengthen and produce 125bhp at flywheel (see note 366

many years with the result none of the family ever held on to a car
longer than 6 months, but I'll try & remember most of them
    chronologically:

    Minivan
    Mini traveller
    Honda N600
    Mini Cooper S
    Citroen Dyane
    Citroen GS 1015
Lotus Elan S4 SE Black Badge

Peugeot 305 GRD Diesel Estate (one & only new car I've ever bought)
    Citroen Dyane
    Austin Maxi 1750
    Rover 3500 SD1 manual
    Citroen CX 2400 Saloon
    Citroen CX 2400 Safari
    Pause....no driving licence...oops
    Citroen Dyane

    Bikes simultaneously:

    Greeves Scrambler (Villiers 8E 197cc)
    Honda CB92 125
    Honda C92 125/150
    Honda C90
    Honda S90
    Honda CB250
Honda CB750 K0 (one of 36 imported to UK in 1969)
    Suzuki ASS100
    Honda CB250G
    Honda GL1000 Gold Wing
    Honda CB77 305cc twin 1963	(current)
    Honda CB400-4	(also current)

I guess you could gather from the above that I'm a little fond of
    Citreii and Hondas!!!!!
Back when I was a kid of 7 and got my first ride on the old man's CB 92
I had a passion for them...rightly or wrongly, and despite a little
interlude with the Greeves and the little Suzie it's been Hondas ever
    since.

As to the cars, I'm afraid I still hanker for something a little
different and that's where the Citreii come in...they're certainly
different and the very devil to work on at times, but I owe my life to
my last CX Safari and I appreciate the engineering even more for the
    experience.

I was on my way home to East Kilbride from Horsham (where I worked for
Applied Materials) and was belting up the M6 in the outside lane at
about 95 when I heard a bang and saw some black stuff flying past the
window. It didn't take long to realise that the offside front tyre had
disappeared in bits. Anyway, still doing 95, indicated left, moved over
three lanes and braked to a dead straight stop. I got out of the car
(heart doing overtime) and went to change the tyre.....there was
nothing left but some wire and the odd little bit of rubber.

Boy was I glad it had been the faithful old Citrus and not the poxy
(but oh what a lovely engine) Rover 3500, I would have been over the
    reservation and upside-down in nanoseconds.

Thus, please appreciate one of the many things I love about these
cars; they may be ugly, quirky, not particularly fast and rust like
goodness knows what but I still love 'em because of their Oh so lovely
engineering and because they ARE different.

As to the previous note 3.320, I've just been helping my mate in
Horsham build his Westfield SE, what a nice kit! Very well made
spaceframe and nice quality body bits. You'd never know his wasn't all
new (no wonder, we ate & slept Westfield all last summer, dreaming
about scrubbing & cleaning engines, calipers, back ends etc.......) and
    boy, does that thing go!

Anyway, I'm afraid since the old DD I've been treading very carefully
and thus yet another Dyane (no 5 I think) is in daily use, however I've
just started a major overhaul on my 400-4 so hopefully that will be on
the road soon......lovely wee thing, I can hardly wait.

    All the best,

    		Les

The Mayflower was built by Triumph in the late 40s and early 50s. As
stated, it had very angular features and was not dissimilar to an RR in
    appearance, albeit smaller.

I loved it, it was slow, bad roadholding, three-speed column change
    etc.

    But it was 'comfortable'.

RE: Triumph Mayflower

I was looking around a junkyard in Massachusetts (USA) and found three of them.
It looked like someone started to restore one using the parts from the others
and just gave up. They are very unusual in appearance. At first I thought
they were VW beetles with the Rolls Royce fiberglass front ends that were
popular in the 60's here in the states.

Hi, I work at the CSC in Basingstoke, currently driving an XR3i with
just a few months lease left on it. Previous cars include 2 TR7's which
despite the but press, I loved these cars.

Any ideas on a replacement car for the XR3i on the lease scheme up to a
1000 notes ? Mail me on comics::shelleyr with your thoughts. Currently
I'm keen on the RS Fiesta and Renault 5 GT Turbo, but if petrol goes up
much more I'm seriously considering a diesel as I drive up to 100 miles

    Safe and happy motoring.

    Hi There,

I'm John Rutter, just started as a Contractor at SBP (Fareham).

    I own/drive the following vehicles :-

Lancia Delta HF integrale (unfortunately not 16v...)

JEEP CJ7 (Yank rustbucket, not Nippon shopping-trolley)

OPEL Manta GT/E (tired, slowish, but handles fine)

I would like to go out in/drive any 'real' supercar, such as :-

Aston Martin, Porsche, Lotus, Ferrari, or other EXOTICAR

Fed up with the Manta (not enough 'soul'), and would like to get
hold of something Italian to rectify matters - but I only want a
cheapy, which means I will have perforated bodywork, no electrics,
spares replacement problems and all that. If that gives the car
some SOUL, then perhaps that it what I want.

As far as motorsport goes, I am keen on Rallying, not too keen on
'roundy-roundy' stuff, but I enjoy spectating most event types.

I plan to enter some competition myself at some time, if only so
that I can say "I've been there, done that" next time I see some
slow 'wally' enjoying himself at this sort of pastime.

To get a chance of using my Lancia, I am thinking of entering both
'Run-What-Ya-Brung' dragstrip events and road-going SPRINTS. As
for the latter, I believe there is a sprint held monthly at Goodwood,
which I am waiting to hear more about.

That's all for an introduction, thanks for reading this far...

    John Rutter

    P.S.

My nickname of 'Rutter the Nutter' may, or may not, relate to my driving!

I just discovered this conference, and I'll be looking around with
interest. My first exposure to a British auto was when my dad had
temporary custody of a Morris Minor for a while back when I was in
high school. I thought it was the greatest little car I'd ever seen.
Back then you could still find them for sale in American classified
papers. I haven't seen one for years (excepting when I was in England
in 1984). Perhaps it's only the glow of romaticized memory, but I'd
    love to own one now.

I also had great fun taking in the plethora of new (to me) cars I
encountered during my trip back then. One thing that stood out in my
mind was how well cared for the cars were. I was a bit dissappointed to
notice that he trend seems to be away from domestically produced cars
to merely sticking labels on foreign built (usually Asian) ones.

'86 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 (cost me a fortune but beautiful

'66 VW Beetle - bought for restoration but I got sense

    Present wheels:

    		'67 Ford 105E Anglia - finally finished a restoration
'65 Austin A40 Farina Countryman - needs a fuel tank
'67 Austin Mini 848cc Automatic - bought yesterday
'74 Honda 50 - college transport but I'd never part with it

    Future wheels:

    		MG Magnette ZA/ZB Varitone
    		Mini Cooper
    		Wolseley Hornet
    		Riley Elf
    		Mini 1275GT
    		MGA roadster
    		Triumph Stag

I hope to put together a collection of Minis in time.

There was apparently some smoke rising from somewhere in the computer room,
this set the fire alarm off, although the machines didn't go down then, but
have been looked at, and I beleive they wer down last night or early this

They are generally back up, but not really linked together. All I need now is

3.381More MGA enthousiasts?UTROP1::KALDENHOVENIt was Alcazar...Mon Apr 22 1991 19:1429
    Hi,

My name is Steven Kaldenhoven and I work for the EIS Office Information
    Services Unit in Utrecht, Holland.
I drive a Honda Civic Silverstone 15i, my wife drives a Civic 15GL.

In the shed however, there's the real adventure. It is an MGA 1600 Mk1
which I bought some 3 years ago with the intention to restore it and
have it on the road again in 2 years...
I stripped it completely down in six weeks, but then met a very nice
girl (which now is my wife) and somehow there wasn't much time
left for the MG-puzzle (which I didn't realy mind ;^)).

In august last year however I made a serious restart with the
restoration project. I had the chasis sandblasted, did some welding,
put it in the sinc-compound and paint-sprayed it; I worked trough the
front and rear suspension/breaks/wheelmounting and steering and a lot
    of other things.
I just last weekend fitted new brakehoses all around and cleaned the
engine. For the comming weeks I plan to renew the electrical wiring,
wooden floorpannels and fuelhoses. If it goes like expected, I can start
on the body around june. The front and door sections are BAD, so that will
take lots of time (and guilders %^{).
    It is realy gaining shape...

Any other MGA enthousiasts out there? Please say so, as I could do with
    some help on certain issues!

    Steven.

Heavy tax, about 160% plus a variable sum of money, i.e. a

Interesting to see that cars can be expensive also elsewhere than here
in Finland. Our tax is about 120% plus other expenses. So if a car's
price in harbor is, say, 30,000, it's price in dealer is 100,000. This
year the sales has dropped; so the state has reduced the tax a little
to increase the sales to get more taxes...

I've got a lot of friends and connections whom I hope will help me
out for a portion of delightful luxury like rideing in a MGA
through the country-side outside Stockholm on a summer afternoon.
I hope to get even more valuable friends and connections through

Management in Bristol. Left Dec Park 3 months ago after being there
for 3 years.(Only person who could have made the worst car swap in the
    history of motoring)

Previous cars : Ford Fiesta MK1 950cc (past my test, took the car out
for the night, left it out on the road. Next morning, found it 100yds
down the road embeded into a Cavalier Sri.I have the aupair of Boney
    'M' to thank for that)
Vauxhall Astra 1.3 GL. Lovely car lost all go at 60,000
miles. Swapped it for my present car.(major regret)

Present Car : Audi coupe GT5S. 1st two weeks were great, then: Subframe
had to be weilded(not cheap), new track rod ends and tracking rods. Two
front wheel bearings and hubs, Discs and pads. 4 new tyres. Needs
totally re-wiring(catches fire now and again.)New Fan. And after
getting all that done, some pillock in an XR2 drove into the back of me
on Friday night. Then Saturday morning, An-Exfriend drove his rusty
metro straight into the rear wheel arch.(haven't finished yet),
Saturday night, went to town to see Split second, and somebody
decides to test how sharp there door keys are on the same rear wheel
arch. No other problems yet, but it's only Monday.
I've only had the stupid thing since Xmas.

     Cars I've had so far:

          *     1973 Volkswagen 1303S
                      - bought 1985 with 120.000 kms on it
                      - simple and slow but reliable
                      - still have this one - drive it only once or twice
a year during the summer moths

          *     1983 Opel Manta 2.0 E Berlinetta
                      - bought 1988 with 144.000 kms on it
                      - nice looking car - average performance
                      - quite a lot of little problems but fortunately
these were rather unexpensive to fix
                      - sold 1989 with 181.000 kms on it

          *     1985 BMW 323i with some M-technic & Hartge extras
                      - my current vehicle
                      - bought 1989 with 44.000 kms on it
                      - rather fast, superb handling due to sport suspension
                         and 205/55-15 + 225/50-15 tires
                      - extremely reliable and maintains the 'original feel'
very well over the years and kms
                      - serviced regularly by the dealer
                      - all repairs needed have been a new exhaust pipe
and water pump at 125.000 kms. The water pump
had a small leak that was discovered during cam
belt change. Just to be sure...
                      - currently has 163.000 kms and still goes strong

           *    1989 Range Rover Vogue 3.5 EFi
                      - common car with my parents
                      - bought last summer with 76.000 kms on it
                      - great vehicle for travelling - even with five
persons and a lot of stuff on it
                      - comfortable ride and goes almost anywhere
                      - I don't have a very good opinion about this yet...

     Dreams:

Hope I someday have the money to buy a 911. There's something in
those rear engine air-cooled things. I'm trying to keep my
Beetle until the time for the Porsche arrives...

I have heard a plenty of negative comments about 400-serie Volvos.
About reliability. My DEC friend has problems with his 460 GLE
and other non-DEC friend has a 440, and he is not satisfied with
it's reliability. Though they both say they like Volvo's handling

    Royston,

    >>Basys Automation Systems Ltd? Is this part of Digital ? If not

The node BASLG1 is registered within Digital, see $VTX EASYNET (menu
    options 3, then 2, then 6) specify "D" and then "BASLG1".

    >>how come you can access this notesfile as it should be company
    >>confidential.

The correct term is "Digital Internal Use Only" that is if it is to be
classified at all! If it was "company confidential" or do you mean
"Digital confidential" then it should be a closed notes conference, and
all sorts of restrictions apply like "distributed on a need to know
    basis" etc.

In any case, if you thought that outsiders had got into the Digital
network then you should have contacted your Field Information Security
Contact (FISC) straight away! If you don't know who your FISC is then
have a look in $VTX SECURITY_EUROPE, main menu option 1 [European
Security Contacts] and sub-menu 1 [Field Information Security Contacts
    (FISCs)]!

Colorado Springs CSC. Currently driving a Ford truck (practicallity
scores again) but was raised on (and in!) British cars. My parents have
owned a 59 Hillman Minx, replaced it with 2 Sunbeam Alpines (early 60's
vintage), a Sprite MKII, a Triumph of such obscure nomenclature that no
one can accuratley give it's designation; Sport Six? Light Six Drophead
    Coupe? Much like a Herald drop-head with a 2-litre six-cylinder engine;
yet another Sunbeam (a Tiger Mk1-I was the fool who convinced my mother
to sell it..!) and lastly a Rover 3500S of 70-71 vintage. Needless to
say, we were on a first-name basis with the mechanics in Monterey..

3.463Triumph Nomenclature Still a Mystery..CSC32::P_SHERRYWhen The Going Gets Wierd, The Wierd Turn ProThu Nov 11 1993 03:2216
Mark- re 3.460 "we'd call that a Vitesse" There were very few sold, I
should contact a Triumph registry to get exact nomenclature. As I
remember, the Vitesse had headlamps which were somewhat slanted, while
this particular car had the round headlamps common to the Heralds
(although this was a long time ago, my memory isn't what
it...ummm..what was I saying?) My main memory was of apalling
electrics, and my mother's ability to utilize a screwdriver to
jump-start the car. Here's the picture--a small red sports car, front
end lifted, a petite redhead with a screwdriver tinkering under the
hood. Along comes a tow-truck driver (dollar signs dancing in his head,
no doubt!) asking if he can help out..my mom smiles sweetly, says she's
just hot-wiring the car, thank you, shouts for me to turn the key
and 'Bingo!' the car fires up, the hood is re-latched, and we're gone!
she gained quite a bit of notoriety in a small town for her
antics..every trip to the store was an adventure! It always loked like
    a Ferrari pit-stop......

    Howdy ya'll,

My name is Mark Ceraso. I am a Multivendor Customer Services Engineer
working out of the Birmingham, Alabama, USA office. I also live in the
Birmingham Metro area. Alabama is in the southeastern part of the
States. NASCAR is very popular in this area. Talledega Raceway is about
45 miles from Birmingham. I have very little interest in NASCAR unless
they are running on a road course and I like Indy racing but don't care
much for the ovals (Indy 500 the exception). Formula 1 is my favorite
motor racing. F1 is not very popular in this region and I only know a
couple of people locally who follow the sport with whom I can chat
    with.

I learned to drive in my mom's 1975 Dodge Dart with a slant six and my
    father's 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 with 289 cubic inch V8 and
    three-on-a-tree.

If Nige was Italian oR French or Brazilian or German or American

to be English, and a Brummie at that!
Read old replies on note 2099 (there are 1,400+ of them!) to get a
    feel for it....
Personally I'm not a great Mansell fan he's not dependable enough
for my vote, but he has great talent if he's in the mood.
I remember watching a McLaren documentary once with Ron Dennis
arguing with Senna, and Senna behaved like a spoilt brat! lot's of
silly latin emotiom bit and going off into a corner sulking!
I just think of that to put Mansell into perspective...
Any replies PLEASE put in 2099, or start a Nigel Bashing conf!

    Matt,

I really didn't know who Nigel was when I started watching the PPG
series last year. His skill as a driver could not be ignored; the
PPG commentators mentioned it numerous times that Nigel has done
    better on the traditional Indy ovals than he has on road courses;
he was verrrry polite when he pointed out that the Yanks were driving
    in the wrong direction :-)

    I've seen him interviewed and he seems to be a likeable sort of guy;
it's obvious he doesn't suffer fools gladly :-) Yesterday he was the
first to congratulate young Jacques Villeneuve on his exciting win,
a class act to be sure.

I'm truely sorry to see him leave Indy cars; many of the races he
won last year were decided by his skill as a driver, the car he's
been driving can't compare to the Penske machines.

     Mike Taylor

visiting this notesfile with interest in Peugeot problems,
     since I purchased a used 405 Mi16 in August of 1994. I also read
and learned alot about the F1 series in here, as opposed to the
fairly sparse discussion of F1 on OASS::Racers.

Current drives are the 1989 Peugeot 405 Mi16, which boasts a
     1.9 l 16-valve Motronic injection engine mated to a 5-speed, with
luxurious leather interior and all power accessories, as well as a
fine Alpine sound system, and I also own a 1993 Mercury Grand
Marquis, a full sized American car with a down-sized, more powerful
4.6 l V8 than the previously used 5.0 l V8s, as well as an overhead
cam (single cam, double cams used in the high end Lincoln Mk 8
series, soon to be used in the Mustangs of the future.)

My first car was a 1958 Sunbeam Rapier, which was handed to me
from my Dad when I became licensed to drive in 1972. My Dad had
begun to restore British cars when I was around 9-10 years old,
his first effort being a 1956-58-ish Hillman with a 4-speed on the
column, left hand drive model (don't remember the car model name,
maybe a Minx?) He was well-established by the time he got to using
the Sunbeam, and after I had the engine throw a rod, I found that I
was able to make another running engine out of the surplus from his
hobby cars. As I remember, we did not have to buy anything to
change the engine block over into the Sunbeam to get it back in
     running shape...

I really enjoy this notesfile, when I get the time to read it,
and especially enjoy the English that's not in my American subset
of English terms that are used. You wouldn't notice the words since
they are used in everyday conversations over there, but I see them
and grin when I try to extract their meanings from the context in
     which they are used. :^)

I've written a few notes so I guess I should sign in:

Name: Jane Whitehead, more commonly known as Goldy
Location: DECpark D1/8 since August (previously in London for 8 years)
Job: ABU Customer Order Management Support

Cars: Only had two cars of my own since I passed my test in 1989, a
T-reg Renault 5 held together with chicken wire and since 1990 an
    A-reg Ford Escort 1.3GL.

Until I moved from Essex to Southampton in July I was only doing about
20 miles a week, my mileage has now gone up to 500 miles a week commuting
from So'ton to Reading. My car is pretty reliable and in good condition
but with a clock reading of 99,000 miles and the fact that the car is
underpowered for motorway driving I've decided it's time to get a new car.
The hardest part is finding one that I like, that I can afford and that has
reasonable mileage on as I'll be doing at least 25,000 miles a year (and
that doesn't include any business mileage I may do).

Good to see so many familiar faces in here, wonder where I've seen
    most of you before!

    Jane/Goldy.

Cost me an absolute fortune but I'm happy as it's the car I wanted.

    Hi There,

Just started reading this conference recently and have already got some
good advice, so I guess I should sign in.

    Name: Gavin Beveridge
    Location: Ayr Manufacturing Plant, Scotland.
Position: Functional Debug Technician (whatever that means???)

Current car -> 1990 H-plate VW Polo 1.3S Coupe (which is giving me
                   severe grief at the moment).
    Previous    -> 1988 F-plate Ford Fiasco
                   1986 D-plate Ford Fiasco
1979 V-plate Ford Cortina (a splendid motor vehicle -not)

Hopefully will be progressing up to a VW Corrado at some point, once I
get by the 25 year old barrier and get full no-claims bonus.

Love anything to do with cars and driving. Passed my Advanced Driving
Test nearly 5 years ago and currently teach advanced driving at my
    local group (Ardrossan).

Well, that's about all for now.

    Speak to you later.

    Cheers,

    Gavin.............

Hello,
Been poking in for a long time, not much in the way of writing.
(Also, I guess I live on the wrong side of the pond!)

Currently:
	1987 Full size Ford Bronco.
		100.000 miles
12 mpg (those pesky little US gallons)
		~ 275 horsepower
		snow is not a problem.
	1986 Mazda 626 LX
		40 mpg
		200.000 miles
cheap, and a great winter beater
	1994 Honda Del Sol VTEC
		25.000 miles.
Fun, but it could be faster.
(My wife and I took this one on the 3000 mile, three week
pub crawl. It really lacks space to pack anything!)
	1971 Zink C4
A formula (well, formula Vee) racecar.
It's vintage, and I hope to sell it soon.
	1979 BMW 320, er 330, er 3.0 csi...
After the stock motor exploded, it got replaced by
		 a 250hp Nissan 300zx 3.0l V6. (along with a new 5sp box.)
Suspension mods, aero package, and great tires help it go.
Being so light, its a LOT faster than the new (and much
		 more expensive) M3 Lightweight.
This one just sucks up gas.
Past:
	Ford 1929 Model A (restored)
	1965 Chevrolet Chevelle
	Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396
 	XK E Type 4.2
	Datsun Pickup
Ford Van (to haul the race car)

Future:
	Lotus 7 Series 1
	Another XKE
Maybe an old Frogeye or a TR3

    the F1 notesfile was created.

    Currently driving:
    		1978 Ferrari 308 GTB with 38K miles
1993 Mazda Protege 25th anniversary special with 86K km

    Past cars:
1986 Mazda 323 GT with 300K KM, I gave it to my dad after I
bought the 93 and he is still driving it today.
1984 Renault R5 Sport, put 100K km and sold it and made a
    		profit.
1979 Honda Civic . Put 250K km on it and burnt a cylinder
on the way back from Key West back in 84. This was my
first car that I actually bought and paid for myself.

I always like to keep up on whats happening across the pond.

Hi!

Craig (Adamson) bit of a BMW fan. I'm on my 5th, before that a couple of
Astra GTE'S.

Getting a bit sick of BMW now - though the new 5 series has been likened to a
Lexus - It should certinaly give Mercedes-Benz' new E-class a run for its
money.

The old shape E class is the next one for me, hopefully :-)

3.521Chris BrownBPSOF::BROWNChris BrownFri Apr 26 1996 16:2838
Hi all Chris Brown here from sunny Budapest.

a bit late signing in,as I felt sure I had already done so a couple of
    years back.

I'm currently driving a right hooker Cavalier Diplomat courtesy of Hertz
Leasing, but would much prefer to have a real car. I drive back to the
UK two or three times a year, so get to see lots of continental
motorway (usually 1000 miles at a stretch), Fo rhtos eof you who
complain about road manners in England and Belgium, I recommend you
visit Budapest, which can be compared to Milan on a busy day!

In the past, I have driven most things from my rallying days in the mid
    seventies (Mini 970 S and 1293 S ), 4WD amd HGV in the Army, and a
    variety of 'normal' cars.

I drive quite fast, but not (I hope!) too fast for prevaling
conditions. My pet hates include the UK 70mph speed limit, Austrian
traffic police, Basingstoke, and people who not only crawl along in
front, but deliberately obstruct any attempt to overtake safely
(travelling at their own pace is fine, but why impose it on me!),

My next car will probably be a Vectra. This is the sort of compromise
where you don't get what you want, but there's nothing really
significant enough to hate. I just hope the fuel feed problems are
fixed before my renewal in November.

My second car (or rather my wife's car) is an aging Cavalier Sri that's
been in storage for two years, so it's probably dead by now. Previous
cars in recent years have included a string of Cavaliers, Asconas, and
Lancias, and before that included frogeye Sprite, Sunbeam Alpine,
Wolseley 6/110, Mk 1 Cortina, Toyota Hi-ace, 80" Landrover, Hillman
Hunter, and a whole heap of Minis.

Dave Burden, support specialist at the CSC in Alpharetta, Georgia, USA.

Past cars worthy of note:
Many VW Rabbits (Golf Mk1), including an '83 GTI PRO Rally car.
1971 Cadillac Sedan de Ville, 7.2 litre V8....

Current fleet:

1924 Studebaker Special Six, model EL 5 passenger touring car.
1926 Studebaker Standard Six, model ER hearse/estate wagon/flying brake
1957 BMW Isetta 300 convertible
1971 VW Type III Variant (Squareback)
1979 VW Rabbit diesel 4 door
1983 VW Rabbit diesel automatic 4 door
1985 VW Jetta 4 door, 1800cc

The Isetta is getting its engine rebuilt and then we can put it all back
together. The '26 Stude is patiently waiting to be restored, probably in 3-4
years at the going rate. The '71, '83 and '85 VWs are used regularly while
ther '79 is waiting to be sold or used for parts.

I was given the '83 VW for free because it would not start. It cost me $5 to
fix because the starter was not getting grounded properly. We've been driving
it for 3 months without a problem!

                               -< Laurie Brown >-

I'm Laurie Brown, currently in DEC Utrecht.

Sadly car-less, having written off my Manta a couple of months ago. My wife
drives an Escort estate 1.6GL, great little car.

My vehicular passion is MKII Jags, but I like most cars really.

Previous cars include:

Ford Anglias (at least 5)
Ford Cortinas (at least 3)
Vauxhall Vivas (3)
Fiat 850
Morris Minor
S type Jag
Frog-eye Sprite
MK2 Jags (4)
Opel Manta
Escort Estate

and probably more.

If I remember correctly, I replaced the Manta with an '81 2.0 Cavalier
GLS coupe, which went well for about 30K miles, then I bought an '85
Granny Estate, a 2.0 GLX, which did a good 50-oddK before I traded it in
    for the 405 in '92.

I currently drive a (loaned) Peugeot 806 SLDT (our own SRDT 806 is
*still* on order), and we kept Peugeot 405 GLDT estate, now 80K
    miles and a little over three years old, and running like a top;
magnificent car. We still have the Escort estate, 105K in 9 years (<10K
in the last 5!) and still going. I'm giving it to a mate in the UK in
    May, when our 806 arrives.

    Cheers, Laurie.

Honda Civic	1342cc	Nice reliable & cheap
Honda Civic	1398cc	Not fast, but fun
    	Honda Civic*	1398cc	Another one
Honda Prelude*	2.3l	FWD, but active rear wheel stearing maked
it handle like a RWD car.
The smoothest engine / gearbox I've ever
    				seen.
    				No body role whatsoever !

    Currently Have

BMW Coupe*	2l	RWD but way too much understear.
    				Unpredictable on the limit
BMW Sports	2.8l	RWD, LSD, M3 suspension.
Very nice handling, but too much body role
    				for my liking (ie some).

    Would Like

I learnt to drive in 1971/72 on an Austin Maxi (which I once slightly
bent when turning right at a set of lights in Swiss Cottage which were
    out of order).

    Cars owned

1978 Gold Hilman Avenger - 10,000 miles - electrics burnt out
    1978 Red Datsun Cherry - 120,000 miles - p.x. for
    1983 Silver Nissan Stanza - 110,000 - write off after I drove
into the back of a queue of stationary cars in Ealing, no injuries
but 4 cars did not look very good after it...)
(1986 For three months each I drove a Silver Audi 80 and a Black Ford
Granada as lease cars for the company I worked for before joining
Digital. I did not join the car scheme and went back to driving
         my Stanza.)
1990 Blue Ford Orion 1.4lx - (after the demise of the Stanza) 78,000 so
far - has been hit a couple of time by other cars (neither my

Seems I haven't signed in myself! How curious. Okay, Chris Hedley based at
home and occasionally in Colchester. Programmer, general dogsbody, lout.
Have moderated this conference for 3 years or so, although that is soon to end
as I'm leaving Digital in about 6 or 7 weeks' time.

Cars I've driven:

1988 VW Polo Mk I, 895cc	the acceleration pinned you back in the seats.
1989 VW Polo Mk II, 1.1CFE	first car I'd bought myself. Looked like a
baby Hearse. Phenominal performance compared to the 895. Survived
60K miles of my driving with only a gearbox replacement. Still going
	strong.
1991 Rover 213S Hardly ever drove this thing, ended up having
to flog it for a 2 grand loss. Not a bad car, though.
1992 Vauxhall Astra 1.4 (mk 3?) pig ugly car and a hideous colour. It
was my introduction to half decent stereo systems though.
1992 Ford Escort 1.4 I'd specifically asked for my next hire car
*not* to be an Escort under any circumstances, so I got one. This was
a horrible, bad, nasty car without a single redeeming feature. I was
unlucky enough to get one of the last of the dreadful CVH engines.
1992 Rover 214SLi my first leasemobile. Great performance for
a 1.4 engine. Infinitely better than the Escort, but, then, what
isn't? Ended up in a field once.
1995 Vauxhall Calibra SE4	One of the best looking cars around, IMO.
Only an 8 valve model, but still encourages the hooligan instinct.

Next car? Dunno, depends on the job. Might be another leasemobile, or I
might get a second hand Saab or something.

Chris.

    1984 - Valiant Pacer (220bhp 17ft long Aussie tank..went like rocket
                  though!)
1985 - Capri 3L MK II (1974 vintage) Very quick in a straight line.....
1986 - Nissan Cherry 1.3SGX (temporary company car until...)
1986 - Nissan Sunny 1.5 ZX (nice but bland..)
1987 - Mitsubishi Mirage Turbo (Colt in the UK) 8 Speed gearbox!
                  including 2 reverse gears!
1988 - Holden Barina (rebadge of Suzuki swift done by GM Australia)
A real little rocket for something soooo small!
    1990 - Rover SD1 2.6 (!)
1990 - Vauxhall Astra MK II 1.3 (Best mountain bike carrier on the road!)
1991 - Citroen BX 1.4 Comfy ride and fantastic in the snow. Also great
on those farm tracks up in Cumbria (You guessed Co. car)
    1992 - Vauxhall Cavalier 1.4 L (Nice and SLOW)
1993 - Rover 214si (not bad but I'll never have another...)
1995 - Mazda 323 GT (Lovely... now the wifes car)
1996 - Saab 900 Turbo SE (Co. car and my treat to myself!)

Not quite managed 1 per year but not far off! I should point out that
not one of these cars ever sufferred a terminal accident except the
first. (A drunk driver took care of that - and my mum who was driving)
Needless to say I am VERY anti drink driving.

Ian Cleasby, customer service engineer with Digital since 1979.
Iv'e had several co cars in that time - most of them boring, which is
why I still have the TR6 I drove to my interview. I did have a couple
of Capri's I liked - then they stopped making them. So I have just
bought another for my wife - she hates Capri's........
I'm now fortunate to work in the Isle of Man, where there are no MOT's
no motorway/dual carriageways and no maximum speed limit - ideal TR6

I really should have written ing here before. I have entered a few notes and a

I started working for Digital Field Service in 1969 at Arkwright (sp) Road in
Reading,. Since then I have worked for Digital in Switzerland, Holland, Portugal
and the US (Massachusetts) and I'm now in the CSC in Colorado. I try to get back
to Britain as often as I can (can't get beer like that anywhere else in the
world) and like to keep up with the UK motoring scene through this notesfile.
Presently own seven cars (vehicles) including a 1967 MGB and a 1980 Spitfire.
Would love to have more British cars to work on but space is limited as well as
funds.
