365.18 | blackbushe auction | SYSTEM::REID | I'm not making this up | Tue Jul 10 1990 13:42 | 14 |
| Has anyone been to Blackbushe Car Auction recently? What's it like?
I will be changing my car soon, and wondered whether it was possible
to get a really reliable car from an auction. What I'm looking for is
a 2-3 year old low mileage Golf GTI. What sort of price do they fetch
there? I drive past Blackbushe every day and thought it looked worth
checking out.
Should I wait till August for all the H-reg trade-ins? Or is now the
best time to buy?
Thanks,
Dave.

VW Gti's tend to command quite high prices even at auctions; thats if you
actually find one at an auction. I've been to several ADT auctions (midlands
area), & Gti's were few & far between.

| There is a magazine out at the moment that compares buying a 2nd
GTi and Gte - I think its called "2nd hand car buyer" - amazingly
enough !

cash, unless you're a regular customer with good credot rating
>> b) Insurance....e.g How do you get covered for drive home.
phone up your insurance broker/company & they'll cover you instantly
if you have an existing policy you may be covered 3rd party anyway (rat)

365.25 | The Law (or the lack of it) | SUBURB::SCREENER | Robert Screene, UK Finance EUC | Tue Oct 16 1990 15:21 | 17 |
| I read an interesting article about Auctions and the Law.
Auctions are selling a car on behalf of the cars last owner. If there
is a serious problem with the car not mentioned in the auction, you
have to sue the car's last owner to recover losses, NOT the auctioneers.
The Auction has NO legal obligation to tell you the car's previous
owner. You have even less Legal protection than when buying privately.
Guess you know the car pretty well, if you leased it for the past few
years though!
Buyer beware.
Rob.
p.s. I can't remember what losses you can reclaim through the court for
this type of purchase.

Cripes!
You can't sue anybody, certainly not the last owner.
The trades description act does apply to auctions which is why you
don't find any descriptions offered.

| Hi, can anybody tell me how I can 'trace' the previous history of a car
when viewing at an auction....ie...I want to buy a car at auction and
would prefer to know the background before buying a complete shed on
wheels!
Preferably I would want an ex-lease/finance snatch-back - are you told
by the auctioneer as to whether it's an ex-lease/snatch-back??
Cheers Dieter.
