2501.0. "Rover 200vi Comments and Quotes??" by GEOFFN::BARKERA () Tue Mar 19 1996 16:58

Hi,

Has anybody out there driven the new Rover 200vi?

Has anyone had the bottle to request a quote for this new "hot-hatch?"

To me it looks like a great car, and Performance Car magazine give it
a good review.

I'll look forward to your replies.

>Has anybody out there driven the new Rover 200vi?

    Nope; I went to the local Rover dealership in Basingstoke to see
    about it, and it's not out (apparently) till mid May. The sales guy
    says it will be about 15,000 quid...not a bad price. I've been
    trying to extrapolate the Lease cost based on current Rover prices
    etc....probably 4,100->4300 I reckon.
2501.2Not now available till AutumnKERNEL::LOANEComfortably numb!!Wed Mar 20 1996 15:365
    I  just  put  in  a  quote for a Rover 200vi; within 15 mins I had a
    response from Lease Plan (that's what I call *REAL* service!!).
    They contacted Rover and discovered that the VVC engine has proved
    such a success in the MGF, there are none  left  for  200vi  builds;
    the 200vi will not now be available till Autumn.

    Don't hold your breath for the VVC. I've been given an anticipated
    delivery date of September for my MGF VVC.

    Cheers,

    And when they deliver it, have a quick walk round and make sure it's
    got the right number of doors. I got 5 for the price of 3, but it's
    the 216Si not the VVC.

    Chris if the list price is around 15k then the lease cost will more
    than pay for the car over 3 years. How can they justify such a
    ridiculous amount.

    re last few..

    It's actually cheaper to lease a MGF, even though its list price is
    4K more expensive!!!

    re last few..

    I would suggest the lease price is so high because availability is
    apparantley zero. A friend went to a Rover dealership in Warrington to
    ask about one and was told he would have to wait until
    September/October because all of the VVC engines Rover can make find
    homes in the MGF which is more profitable !!

    Then again it could just be leaseplan ;-)

2501.9Residual valuesMILE::JENKINSTue Apr 16 1996 15:549

    I think the residual values on the MGF will be much better than
    on the 200 and that's why it's cheaper to lease the MGF. Residual
    values on sporting 200 series are not good when you compare them
    with say MX5s today. The Leaseplan price predicts that the new
    200 series will not fare much better than the old one.

2501.10Wrong Car ?WOTVAX::BARRETTRTue Jun 04 1996 17:0214
    RE the lease cost of the 200 VVC coupe :-

    The car you got quoted on is not the Rover 200VI - you got quoted on
    the old shape rover 200 coupe which now comes with the VVC engine.

    This car is the replacement for the Rover 200 Coupe Turbo it retails at
    around ( if my memory serves me right ) 18 or 19,000 hence the silly
    quote from Leaseplan. I suggest if you are interested in the 200VI then
    check back with Leaseplan and make sure they give you the right quote.

    The old Coupe will soldier on for a couple more years apparantly
    although it does have a new dashboard.
