1915.0. "A good looking Volvo ?!" by HLFS00::STEVE_T () Mon Oct 12 1992 21:58

    A friend of mine has the following car, and is considering importing
    it to Europe from the US. He would like to know if anyone has an idea
    as to its value, to assess whether it is worthwhile to bring it over.

    As I understand it.....

    P1800E 1970 Volvo Sedan
    75,000 miles
    Excellent condition having spent its life in California
    4 speed box with overdrive
    Interior completely renovated in new leather
    Air conditioning

    Is this a 'classic' car? Will it ever be? Any ideas what it is
    currently worth? Any info, would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Steve

    Definitely a classic although perhaps a bit of an acquired taste (I
    like them).

    A friend went to look at a good one about six months ago didn't buy it
    because he was concerned about availability of parts.
    I believe it was about 4500.

    ....And I forgot to mention, parts availability is still excellent.

    I order most of mine from the Pretty Garage Group in the UK:

    Very fast service.

1915.6So it's nice, but how nice?HLFS00::STEVE_TThu Oct 15 1992 14:338
    Thanks a lot for all the information, and it certainly sounds like it
    would be worth bringing it over to Europe to use for a while, and then
    to sell before returning to the US. I just need to find out now how
    much it would be to ship it over........any ideas?

    Cheers,
    Steve

1915.7UPROAR::EVANSGGwyn Evans @ IME - Open DECtrade -> DTN 769-8108Thu Oct 15 1992 14:584
    I seem to recall a Top Gear program that had a feature on this and
    while I can't recall any prices, they did say that many s/h cars were
    shipped from Florida -> UK.
    	Got any contacts there?
1915.8good looking but ...ZPOVC::GGLOHSingaporeThu Oct 22 1992 21:163
    The car was driven by THE SAINT.

    It may be a good looking car, but it is also a 'rust box'.
1915.9GVA05::STIFFPaul Stiff DCS, DTN:821-4167Fri Oct 23 1992 12:219
    Where do they rust ?

    Mine's 1966 and has only had one re-paint, in about 1986. No rust.

    The only areas I know to look out for are rear wing arches and in
    behind the front lights.
