It's always a nightmare bit of road for police activity during
roadworks, and rightly so. I had the crap scared out of me when
they were testing the character recognition system out on that bit
    of road.

This also happened when road repairs were being carried out on the M11
between Bishop's Stortford and Harlow about a year ago. You can still
see the distance markers at regular intervals along the road where the
cameras were situated.

2429.4Don't go Pasta cameras too fast!BRUMMY::MARTIN::BELLMartin Bell, North PSC, Birmingham UKFri Jul 07 1995 20:0912
Beware on the M6 Motorway passing by Birmingham.

There are permanent Gatso cameras installed through the roadworks
around Spaghetti Junction (ish) and they are alive and kicking!

According to the papers, the cameras will come down next year when the
roadworks have been completed, but according to the TV they will stay
    up.

Either way, lets be careful out there!

I could always slap a body kit (the type this large wheel arches) on
my metro. That might slow things down abit....

2429.9Camera's At Both End's!WARFUT::LEDGERDWed Jul 12 1995 15:4913
    Hi,

I went through these roadworks in the last 2 days, there are
cameras at the beginning of the roadworks (well about 400 yards
in), for both southbound and northbound lanes. I could not see
any cameras (the spped type) in the middle 3 and a bit miles. It's
a shame I did not read this note earlier last week!!, as I am sure
I did not stick to the 50mph when travelling last week.

Here's hoping they had run out of film!

Going South there are two cameras and one going North (at least that
all I could see. Fairly easy to spot as they keep flashing! Hurts the
    eyes a bit!!

2429.11Basingstoke Speed TrapsCOMICS::SUMNERCUK OpenVMS counter intelligenceTue Aug 15 1995 18:378
Basingstoke Police are having a bit of a clamp down on speeding at the
moment (nice weather to get the VASCAR out) :-)

Some speed signs would help us know how fast we could go. Just to be
safe I tend to go at 30mph in and around Basingstoke..well that's all
the tank goes up to anyway.

If you ever travel along the B3400 (Andover Road), beware of the bit
that runs through Worting. It's a 30mph, and I've seen many people get
caught there. It's a pain having to go so slowly, but still better than
    getting caught!

FWIW, the boys in blue are doing lots of overtime on the A34 between
Winchester and Newbury at the moment. They often have one car in the
last lay-by northbound before the end of the dual-c'way with the radar
and radio, and 5 more cars lying in wait by the BP garage.

They seem to alternate between the Newbury and Winchester ends (some
people who do this journey frequently have said its the same people each
time, regardless of the location - sounds like a SWAT team:-).

Certainly beats catching burglars and rapists.
