2258.1 | There's a 2.5 V6 | YUPPY::SEDTU6::KORMAN | tgif!! | Fri Apr 29 1994 19:55 | 11 |
|
The top model is currently the 2.5 V6 developing 170PS. I've sat in one - very
nice indeed. Auto transmission only - aimed at the low end of the executive
market, costs about 20K on the road with leather uphosltry and heated front
seats (the only two options apart from paint)
I might take one for a test drive soon.
The salesman said it wasn't aimed at the "sporty" market, ie not intended to be
competiton for Calibra or Probe.

| As the Safrane was the successor of the 25, the Laguna is the successor
of the 21.
Laguna engines are, allegedly, the 21 engine bottom ends with
re-engineered heads.
I'll get the French brochures and see what's available in the country
of origin.

| Over here the V6 is the 3 litre version.
The Laguna is a real departure from the 21. The 21 was relatively light
and inexpensive. It could be powered by small engines. The Laguna is
heavy and requires horsepower. Renault insist on safety, build quality,
family car, comfort, etc ...

| I sat in a Laguna at the weekend - and I must say I was very disapointed, it
seemed very bland. Still I wont harp on until I've driven one - especially as
they seem to be doing so well in the BTCC...

2258.12 | good laugh the 2.0S engine | LEMAN::CHEVAUX | Patrick Chevaux @GEO, DTN 821-4150 | Fri Feb 10 1995 14:06 | 13 |
| Just read that Renault will soon (Geneva Motor Show early March)
release a 2.0S version equipped with a 2 litre 16 valve 140bhp engine.
The top of line 4 cylinder engine was only producing 115bhp which was
not too sexy. The 3 litre V6 produces 170bhp which is not too exciting
either.
I think the 140bhp engine was much needed.
Now the interesting bit: this company (Renault) who is now famous for
making the ultimate racing engines in the world don't have a 2 litre 16
valve unit today. The new Laguna engine will be supplied by VOLVO !!!
|
2258.13 | It may use the 20v VOLVO engine | SUBURB::GRANTT::TAYLORG | | Thu Feb 16 1995 16:08 | 12 |
| re-1
This sounds like the 2.0 5 Cylinder 143Bhp engine from the
VOLVO 850.
If I am right then that will be a great car.
The 2.0 VOLVO 850 engine is a really nice motor it is tunecd for
torque rather than out right power but it is very smoth and it sounds like
no other engine other engine.

2258.19 | What about that new Turbo diesel ? | ATYISB::PAUMELLE | | Tue Feb 21 1995 14:30 | 10 |
|
Does anybody have clues about when the Turbo-diesel will be out ?
They say the 12 valve 2.2 D is worth it but less than 100 HP is
ridiculous compared with today's engines in the same category
(BMW 3 Series = 115 or 143 HP, Alfa 2.5 l = 115 HP, etc.)
So they had promised it for last Autumn. Will it be out in Geneva ?

| re.12
but the Renault V6 is not Renault's engine either! It's the PRV engine
(Peugeot-Renault-Volvo) and it's been around for a long time. It is
probably also the worst engine ever made. I'm talking from bitter
experience with a Renault 25 V6I which was by far the worst car I've
ever owned. The stereo was by far the best!

Thats a pretty vague question.
Are you talking about lease driver prices or list prices ?
If its the former see note 2290.152 which is a little out of date
but will give you an idea.
If its the latter I guess it could be anywhere between 15k and 25k
depending on model.
