Alan, re the week deadline. This is wrong. You have right up until
the lease end to buy the car. Also car fleet will accept a cheque
instead of a bankers draft (I was told they prefer it).

For confirmation speak to Sally or Louise in car fleet.

2173.5I'd talk to fleet.SUBURB::MCDONALDAShockwave RiderFri Nov 05 1993 19:369
I would second talking to fleet. The seven/ten day deadline isn't that
rigid, but then again neither do you have weeks and weeks to get around
    to making a decision.

Regarding banker's draft vs cheque, again talk to fleet as rules may
have changed. However, when I bought my car they prefered I supply them
with a cheque. It saved me the fee for the bank to issue the draft.

>>> Second hand market now goes dead until the spring, unless you're
>>> prepared to store the car.

Remember that you will probably be storing a DEPRECIATING asset.

That said, can't remember if I did put it in the Conference, but Hertz
asked me for more than I could get in part exchange for a new car!

I perceive that Hertz are making sure that they are the only ones who
will make any money on the disposal. Sure as hell they won't be storing the car
until the prices rise. I would think that the loss of interest (or interest
paid on a loan even more so) between now and "when prices pick up" would offset
most of any profit you might make.

2173.7NOt sure but....KERNEL::MORGANIJust when you thought it was safe...Mon Nov 08 1993 10:0812
It seems to me that the second hand prices that people are getting quoted are
somewhat higher than other companies - for xample my brother-in-law got a
quote of around 6k for his Rover 820SLi J plate not sure of the miles, but I
think around 40K.

At the price you've got I would be suprised if you could make any money selling
for profit - although it is a reasonable price it sure isn't bargain
basement. - check out TVT see what sort of prices seem the norm in there -
after all you'll probably end up advertising it in there :-)

2173.9Go to the Auction out of interest?CMOTEC::POWELLNostalgia isn't what it used to be, is it?Mon Nov 08 1993 15:324
Might be interesting to find out at which Auction it will be sold, see what it
fetches.

re. 8

Did they tell you/quote you what used car prices are ?

Just out of interest, because I'm in the market for a car and am toying between
going to an auction and taking the risk, or going to a dealer and biting the
bullet.

    It's a manual.

I seem to remember the 2.0 GLi has been voted 'The most popular business
car (sales reps!) in Britain' or some similar award. It really is a
motorway cruising car though... great for long trips down the M4 etc.

I know it's a while back, but I wanted to buy my lease car (BMW325i
Sport). I was quoted 12,750 (fierce price for a 30 month old car
which cost 14,750 new!!). I declined the offer.

2 weeks later, some guy from Grimsby rang me asking about the car's
parentage....He'd been offered the car for 10,500!!! I'm glad I
didn't buy from the lease company!!!

Considering the price of the Cavalier 2.0 GLi, any idea what a 1991 J reg SRi
with around 49,000 on the clock be offered at ?
