1933.0. "Long wait for delivery of company cars?" by WAYOUT::WAYOUT::LOAT (Bored....Bored....BORED!!!!) Tue Oct 27 1992 19:39

Back at the beginning of August I ordered a Citroen ZX Turbo D from a quote I
submitted.

I was given a delivery date of 6 October, and sat back and waited. I called them
one week before this date, to check if the car was scheduled to be delivered on
time, and the person who I spoke to said they had got one in the colour I had
ordered, and things were okay. They suggested that I call on the Monday before
the car was due to be delivered, to check the final date.

I called them on the Monday, to be told that the car hadn't even been made yet,
and the production run had been moved from September to October! I recieved a
new delivery date of 27 October.

Guess what happened when I called them yesterday? The car still is nowhere to be
seen, and I've got a new delivery date of sometime at the beginning of November!

Has anyone out there recently taken delivery of a ZX Turbo D? How long did you
have to wait? Anyone know anyone in Citroen who can confirm/deny this
rescheduling of the production run?

On a wider scale, I wonder if the car destined for me was there, and then a
paying customer walked in, and drove it away? I've heard of dealers treating
lease companies as 'second citizens' when it comes to car delivery (one guy was
old his car was ready to be delivered, then they sold it!)

Anyone else suffered this sort of run-around?

I ordered a Rover 214SLi in July and waited till October for delivery. This was
back in '90 when the Rover was in big demand. But Car Fleet told me that
the car was at a garage and would delivered. I waited, heard nothing, rang
fleet, and like you, was told that the car wasn't built. They then denied ever
having told me otherwise.

I would have thought delivery times would be quick now what with the
massive surplus of unsold cars lying around.

In that case, order a Porsche and you'll probably get it on the same day!

I enquired of Car Fleet what the expected delivery of a specified
colour Golf GTI would be and was told that it would be "readily
    available".

I asked two VAG dealers and they both said "about 12 weeks".

I had the same problem two years ago when I ordered a Sierra 4x4 in
June and got it in October after being quoted an eight week delivery!

Fleet or PHH (can't remember now) gave me the name of the supplying
garage and the order number so I rang them. They were able to access
the Ford computer that gave them the build reference and the date it
would be available off the line.

Even though it was late at least I knew when it would arrive.

Maybe Citroen have a similar system.

re .-1

I've been in touch with the garage in question, and spoken to them many times,
and their computer system still says that the car is going to be made in the
September production run, and then delivered asap!

Hope it's not one of our systems!

Whenever I call, the people I speak to are very apologetic about whats happened
but know absolutely nothing about when my cars is due to arrive! If I hear one
of them says "I'm terribly sorry about..." one more time, I'll scream. I've even
spoken to the fleet sales manager, and still no luck.

I'm beginning to wish I'd never ordered it now!

So you think you've got problems.... I (and two others) ordered in MAY and
2 of us are still without ! One was "located" and delivered in the last
week or so I have been told.

Admittedly we're awaiting Mitsubishi Spacewagons which are on import
quotas, were Car of the Year class winners and are scarcer than
Rocking-Horse droppings, but none of this helps when delivery estimates
come and go and come and go and.....

As a matter of interest my current motor is a Citroen BX19 Estate for which
    I ended up waiting a mere 7 months !

Maybe I'll get mine for Xmas. ;^)

1933.9If you thought you had problemsVIVIAN::JD_WARDBig John....Tue Nov 03 1992 20:0329

I have had a history of problems with ordering my car.

I first send a car quotation for an Audi 80 16v, which Car Fleet
received on the 2 June 92. On the 23 June as I hadn't received any mail
messages I phone them, and they said the quote was rejected because I had
the word AUDI 80 "SPORT" - which was NOT on my quote form. They then said
that must be our mistake. The quote was re submitted on the 24 June 92.
On the 6 July I again chased them regarding my quote. But they said
this was rejected because I ask for ELM INLAY on the dashboard. The fact
that both my local AUDI garage and AUDI (UK) says this is a factory
installed option, make me think did PHH ask any garages for a proper
quote. This extra was the only item rejected.
On the 7 July I tried to the third time to put in the quote . I
phoned on the 17 July to be told that its in, but on 20 July
when I phoned again, I was told it wasn't, but it will be hear by the
end of the week. On 7 August 92, I received the car quotation 5 weeks
after my third quote. I then submitted my car order which was accepted
on 14 August. Car Fleet mailed me on the 8th September regarding the
interior trim on the car. They said I can either have Silver with Grey or
Silver and Silver. Then I was told that delivery was the 11 Nov so I
comfirm with the garage who said it was December 92.

6 MONTHS after my first quote.

1933.11Wood in cars?CMBOOT::DELANYSTue Nov 03 1992 22:299
It's Audi's equivalent of the wood that Rover choose to put in strips
around the dash and doors of Rovers!

Quite why manufacturers think people are fussy about the type of wood
they get on their dash is beyond me -- as is the fact that there's wood
    there at all!

1933.13glut or shortage?ZPOVC::GGLOHSingaporeWed Nov 04 1992 18:409
I remembered reading the news entitled "What future now for Britain's
unsold thousands (cars)?" in the Autocar & Motor Magazine back in
September. There was even a photo taken from an aeroplane over the
Midlands airfield with about 3000 unsold and unwanted newscars
stretching almost as far as the eye can see. Rovers, Forads, Vauxhalls
    and Toyota were among them.

And here I am reading about all those long waits. How could one be
able reconcile the two seemingly contradicting news? Beats me.

1933.17No delay for ZX TD!ROCKS::CAMPTue Dec 01 1992 20:438
I read of your pain with the Citroen ZX TD, but I ordered mine on
15 Sept, Fleet said it will be delivered on the 16-Nov, and it arrived
on the 18-Nov! May be they had a lot of people waiting for cars when
they started building them so yours was delayed?

When in the UK I ordered a Vauxhall something or another and it was a
Friday afternoon special. After a lot of hassle Vauxhall fitted a
    complimentary alarm.

My point is fleet buyers have a lot of leverage, and whilst the garage
can't give you money, you can normally persuade the manufacturer to pay
the garage to add some kind of goodie to your car.

So if you ever get messed around called the manufaturers head office
    and scream and wail!
