1061.0. "SEAT Ibiza" by NCEIS1::CHEVAUX (Patrick Chevaux, Nice, 828-6995) Fri May 04 1990 19:51

Last week I had a car reserved at the Europcar office at Lyon-Satolas
airport, road trip to lovely Annecy. Category A, everything standard,
when the lady says: you have a choice of

              - Renault 5 (standard stuff)
              - SEAT Ibiza

I've never had a chance to test drive the Ibiza so I take the 2nd
alternative. After 300km in the Ibiza my conclusion is:

    - together with the SIMCA/CHRYSLER HORIZON this is, by far, the worst
      thing I've ever driven

The steering, the suspension, front and rear, the braking, ... all
is just wrong. The centre of roll seems to be just located at the
wrong place. In straight line the Ibiza does not go straight. No
more negative comments on the interior, etc ... this is a category
    A car.

At this point my question was: is it 1) all Ibizas are just wrong
or 2) do I have a problem with this one (rental car) ?

Now yesterday night, a Digital employee visiting our office also got
a SEAT Ibiza from the Europcar desk at Nice airport. So I have driven
Ibiza No2 for about 70km in order to either confirm or negate my
1st negative impression. Unfortunately Ibiza No2 was just identical
to No1. What a piece of crap !

Anyone else got similar or different opinion ?

    Cheers,

    Patrick

But that maybe slightly unkind... but nearly as unkind as my first
thoughts, which cannot be posted in a public conference... 8*)

Since when has Spain been in South East Asia?

Perhaps it stands for Spaniards Extend Automotive Technology (sort of
Vorsprung Durch National Socialism for Spaniards), since they are now
part of the VW group, well known for overpriced jalopies.

.1 might have given us the 3 alternatives - it probably only needs 'O'
level Spanish to arrive at the answer.
.1 could be a customer - here is a problem, no I shan't tell you
everything you could know, work it out from first principles.

What does FIAT stand for? I'd guess, given SEAT's history, that the
name is very similar. (At a guess, I go for the second).

FIAT is Fabriqua Italiana Automobili Turino (or something very
        close).

Ian (who doesn't have any level Italian).

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the SEAT Ibiza Diesel is like (1990) and
whether it uses VW/Fiat parts etc.

      Thanks in advance,
           Conor.
