Any idea how I backup system.dat and user.dat (my registry) under win95
    backup?

The file selector doesn't show me the files!

    Cheers,

There is a Microsoft program called Configuration Backup Utility that is
what I use to backup the registry.

I'm not sure if it came with Windows 95 or not.

It saves the registry and compacts the file (the backup file is about 270K,
while my system and user.dat files are more than 1.6 MB.)

    Greg,
I thought that the FullSystemBackup set (supplied) caught all
that stuff (registry hiddens etc etc)?

Before I backup my Windows95 system I run a .BAT file which does

	ATTRIB -s -h -r C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.DAT
	ATTRIB -s -h -r C:\WINDOWS\USER.DAT
	PKZIP -EX C:\REG.ZIP C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.DAT
	PKZIP -EX C:\REG.ZIP C:\USER.DAT
	ATTRIB +s +h +r C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.DAT
	ATTRIB +s +h -=+r C:\WINDOWS\USER.DAT

2173.12try ERU on W95 cdrom in a subdirectorySUBSYS::MSOUCYMentalmETALMikeTue Mar 25 1997 15:1116

    re: .8

There is another utility that is on the W95 cdrom, in I think the
utility/ies directory called ERU. It will create a backup of your
important files to a floppy/ies. I am not sure if it gets made W95
bootable or not as I haven't tried to boot from it (I should redo this
myself since I just recently went the pentium road.... and reconfig'd
to scsi boot instead of EIDE). But also lfnbkup is also there (long
filename backup) which will rename long filenames to 8.3 dos style by
using switches, then you *supposedly* can do a DOS backup from backup or
tape. Then upon a restore run lfnbkup again to restore the long
filenames. I don't know of anyone who has done this (seen it mentioned
in here someplace though) successfully. But it's supposed to work.

Put NT workstation on your PC - boot that up and use its own backup
program. Its better than any W95 one I have tried
