ran out at lunch and snatched up a copy of
"Hundred Year Hall 4-26-72"...don't have a cd player
at work to listen to it with...so, just can comment
	on the "visuals" ;-)

the cover is -very- cool - it resembles a series of
stained-glass windows with each of the bandmembers
depicted as a knight, holding an musical instrument
the back cover is another stained-glass of red hands
holding up a blue globe with a skeleton face and
	tape reel in it

inside, the liner notes are written by Hunter -
some description of their trip thru Germany, some
of the actual show. a sample:

"after awhile only an uninsistent but understood sense
of tempo indicates this to be a piece of music in any
sense this audience might comprehend. Jerry is
considering E. 52nd Street in the 50's while Phil has
meandered down to Basin Street. Bobby is pasting decal
ducks on the blue tiled wall of a shower...." ;-) ;-) ;-)

	love it!

I paid 17.99 at Rockit Records - but I also went into Coconuts
to get Rusted Root tickets and saw it there for 20.99
Strawberries usually has sale prices on new releases for the
	first week or so...

Through the wonders of the CD-ROM on my Sandpiper, I'm listening to
disc 1 right now. Very good stuff so far. Note that 'The Other One' is not
listed specifically. Don't know if that means that they only explored the
music side of it, but I won't be able to tell you that for an hour or so.
The paragraph that Debess quotes from is a small part of Hunter's rumination
on why you should add this disc to your collection. And it all seems to be
about Cryptical Envelopment.

Sounds real good through China-> Rider ;-)

It looks like the timings on the tracks have to be taken with a grain of
salt too. Turn on Your Lovelight switched into being GDTRFB a good 2 minutes
before the tracks switched. The tracks should probably just be
marked with the standard tapers ->
with a total time. ^ that's a gozinta, right? ;-)

New release sale @ 17.99 at Strawberries, regular price 21.99.
Seemed a bit steep to me but then I saw that disc 1 is about 74 mins
and disc 2 is about 68 mins.

So far it's one hot tape, er, disc ;-)

The Other One - my Favorite song - I just LOVE this version...
I was watching that RocknRoll thing last night and single-parenting
and only listened to this "new" cd after 11...put the 2nd cd in
the player and went to bed with that music playing

I like the 2nd CD (of Hundred Year Hall) a lot...

Hunter's liner comment is right on -- When they come out of "Billy the
K's" drum solo, they're on that other level you hope for... Almost sounds
like BK was disgusted with what was going on in "Truckin'" and decided to
give Jerry, Bobby, and Phil the ol' wake-up call.

Glad to have the ensuing "Comes a Time". I'd seen it on set lists, but
never focussed on the fact it existed before 1976 (the sluggish version
released on "Reflections"). I always thought, "too bad, nice song".

The residual group-focussing even livens up the closer, Sugar Magnolia...

    A friend of mine called and said "the 3rd best live Dead record";
(he considers "Live Dead" and the live tracks on "Anthem..."
numbers 1 and 2). Picked up my copy at Lechmere Saturday (last day
of the sale); he may be right! Disc #2 alone is worth the price of
    admission.

Hunter's liner notes are cool, but I must mention a small nit. There
are no "bombed out ruins of old Heidelberg University"; the University
and in fact the whole town saw no bomb damage during the war. Poetic
license I guess. On the other hand, Hunter gives one of the most
fascinating verbal descriptions of a Dead jam I've ever read.

you're right. The castle is quite visible and striking, and probably
what he saw. The "bombed out" business just fit better with his whole
    post-war vibe scenario.
