443.0. "Unrelated Topics" by POLAR::KFICZERE () Wed Jan 18 1995 14:23

After searching for an unrelated topics file unsuccessfully, and in
dire need of some 'unrelated' info, I have decided to take a shot
and start this topic. Its fate is in the hands of the moderators...

After recently hearing numerous rumours about a Hendrix benifit
supposedly happening in Seattle this summer I searching in vain for
more info on this. If any one could confirm these rumours or even
suggest how I might get some help with my quest, it would be much
    	appreciated.

    	thanx

Kev,

VMS Notes can't deal with web pages.

You knead a World Wide Web (WWW) browser such as "Mosaic" or "Netscape."

If you have a VMS system and $UCX works on your system, then copy over
everything in:

    SUBPAC::DISK$SUB_USER2:[MAGGARD.PUBLIC.MOSAIC]*.*

to somewhere in your user directories, and then follow the directions in the
00_README.TXT file.

In another unrelated topic: a question!

I am fairly new to the notesfile and conferencing in general. I have
been trying to gain access to the RECORDS file but have been
unsuccessful for at least three weeks now.It reads "file read error"
Quite easy enough to understand, but what does this really mean? Is it
down for good? Any explanation (with out making me feel like a complete
    idiot,if possible) would be appreciated.

I use node DOBROS for the records notes file.

Check ANCHOR::NET$LIBRARY:EASYNOTES.LIS for the latest list of notes files. I
suspect your entry for records is out of date.

> Thanks Adam.I too use the DOBROS node...go figure.

While the name of a node is something people can understand, the computers
actually use a numerical address to reach another node. Perhaps this
system moved and your system manager hasn't updated the network database.

A quick test:

 From your system do:

$ mc ncp show node dobros

Here's what I get from my system:

Node Volatile Summary as of 13-MAR-1995 07:45:06

Node State Active Delay Circuit Next node
                                Links

    8.341 (DOBROS) SVA-0 28.1015

 Now, do this one:

$ mc ncp tell anchor show node dobros

   Here's what I get:

Node Volatile Summary as of 13-MAR-1995 07:46:27

Node State Active Delay Circuit Next node
                                 Links

    8.341 (DOBROS) BNA-0 55.10 (ESCNGR)

Note that in this case the numbers (8.341) are the same.

If they are different in your case, the one from ANCHOR is correct and your
DECnet database is out of date.
