I'll go first -
I'm heading to my parent's house in NYC tomorrrow, for about 6 days.
My sister & her 2 kids have come into NYC also, so it'll be fun hanging out
with her. Taking next week off (isn't everyone? :-) but coming back to
Ma. on Weds, so I can try to find some snow for XC skiing, and to find a
fun thing to do for NYE. Anyone here throwing a NYE party?

New York (Westchester and maybe LI) for Christmas, not totally finalized
just where and when yet. Then back here Saturday night or Sunday.
Working next week. NYE's? Probably seeing if I can get that Black and
Tan thing working round about midnight, and then enjoying the peace of
kids dreaming in bed ;-) Maybe if the sky's clear I'll take the
scope out and greet the New Year astronomically ;-)

It's sort of dangerous to announce in a public forum, but yes, I stated
my first official invite to a NYE party at my house. It'll be kind of
a house warming party too. I usually serve dinner around 7:00 PM. I
haven't done one in several years, but it's time to throw one again.
If you haven't gotten an invite, it's because you're not the guy I was
talking to last night. If you need to know how to get to it, you'll
    have to send me mail.

Well folks, I'm outta here to go spend xmas with my family in Oz. For
the last week or so it has been 80F in Melbourne (and dry)... yay!

We're finishing the trip with a couple of days on an island near the
Great Barrier Reef, where the resort is built in the canopy of a 45,000
hectare tropical rain forest (Swiss Family Robinson, anyone?).

Robyn and I will be doing plan S. It's probably knot 15 minutes from home
and the last time I went to see Slipknot on NYE it was a fantastic Party.
It was almost like one of those NYE parties I used to throw in the '80s with
the exeption that I didin't have to clean up the next morning. I knew half the
people in the place and would expect a similar situation this year.
As for Friday, well I have to work. Robyn took the week off, but I
don't have that much vacation time. Friday night? Hmm, I forgot about
that. I don't know what we're doing. The following Friday I think we're
going to ski.

I think I'll be doing Plan 9 this year. Veg out with a very few beers
(Samuel Smiths Winter whaterver they call it for 94/95, and I think
it will be time to break open that Sam Adams triple bock) maybe a
nice warm fire, and some movies or tapes or other tv show. Maybe go
out around midnight and see if it's started snowing yet (forecase for this
Saturday night!) Maybe I'll bake some cookies too. Get it all done in
94 and then think about cutting out some calories in 95 (After I finish
all the 94 cookies of course ;-) Slipknot sounds intriguing, but that
means we have to find a babysitter, not a likely prospect 2 nights before
NYE. Aside from which we try to avoid the roads on NYE.

Used to hang out all night taping the NYE Dead show which usually made it
onto the radio, but since Bill Graham died, it just hasn't been the
same...

388.27Tumbledown shack in park countyCXDOCS::BARNESThu Dec 29 1994 14:2523
    mikey --
Tumbledown shack is on Mousquito Gulch road just outside the thriving
metropolis of Alma Colo., Population of people about 100 in winter,
and about 150 dogs. Alma is the highest (in more ways than one)
incorporated town in AmeriKa, 10,400 ft, beats Leadville by 100 feet.
Alma sets on the South Park side of Hoosier PAss. Breckinridge is on
the other side, in Summit county. Alma even has a cop, a mayor and a
city council, as well as two bars,
the AOB, Alma's Only Bar, and the South Park bar...The head waters of
the south fork of the South Platte river start above Alma, thus the
brook and brown trout fishing is grate for 8-15 inch fish, not large
but FAT trout. The X-country/back country skiing is superb!!!

Tumbledown itself is a house that was built in the 50's, two bedroom,
kitchen, living room, outhouse (2 seater with a skylite!!!), no running
water in winter, wood heat, gas cook stove and of course stereo and
tapes. There's also a small one room cabin on the acre for summer use.

So, come see us this summer! Winters are COLD there!!!!!!

Sue and I are hosting a small gathering of her college friends, who
always bring the new year in together. Last year we hosted as well,
the feature being the keg of New Year '94 Ale that was too smooth and
too strong. Sue has already taped last year's pictures to the living
room wall, the most notable being the one of yours truly passed out on
the couch, using my (annoyed) dog Jazz as a pillow ;^) The keg won't
be ready for this year, but we're well stocked.....I just hope that my
first breakfast of 1995 is more enjoyable than the first (attempted)
    breakfast of 1994 ;^)

It was about 26 hours from takeoff in Boston to landing in Melbourne.
The 'hurry up and wait' time in transit lounges adds to the total.

Longer on the way back, thanks to El Nino and friends. And my 2 year
old daughter coped with it better than we did.
