293.0. "The Candy (and other assorted sugars) Note" by LEDS::MRNGDU::YETTO (discover the wonders of nature) Fri Aug 28 1992 17:11

Well here it is! We have the ice-cream note, now for the candy and other
assorted sugars (for Fog's benefit) note.

I was thinking of starting this last week as I lost all self-control and
bought a Boston Cream Donut ... yum yum! By the way, just how *do* they
get the cream in there (nevermind, that's a question for the universe).

What's your favorite form of sugar? of candy?

I think mine is chocolate. I'd say Reeses but there are definitely times when
I'd prefer a Special Dark or a PB Max or a Dove or a Chunky or a Kit Kat or a
Nestles Crunch or a .... yikes! I guess you can call chocolate a weakness.

No doubt about it: chocolate. They have a type of chocolate
called I THINK "godiva" chocolates at Hebert's that are very
creamy and very rich. Too rick. Hmmm, godiva chocolates are
probably the brand name of some other killer great [expensive]
chocolates. What is the name....damn, I can't remember...

I love chocolate too. Special Dark (sounds like a beer), Nestle Crunch, or:

Oh yeah, M&M's are cool too. And ice cream! (whoops, wrong topic).

Oooh...

Did I ever tell ya about my group? We're all sugar junkies over here. Every
Friday, we have a donut day, and when things get really tense, we start gummy
bear wars. There's a five pound bag of 'em in one cube on each of the three
rows of cubes our group occupies. Yup, sugar is life, and life is

Chocolate and peanut butter!!!!!!

Not the Reeses kind either, just a regular chocolate bar (prefer Nestle milk
chocolate for this) with creamy Skippy (or Jiff) lopped on top!! Yummm!!

Scott

PS: I discovered this while living in Spain - since they did not have Reeses
    there, I improvised!

yeah, once when I was in junior high my friend and I cut school and hung out
at my aunts house while she was away. We discovered the art of emptying
bags of chocolate chips into jars of peanut butter and going at them with a
spoon. Twas quite enjoyable. Too enjoyable, I can still remember that tummy
ache and trying to explain it to my mom! :-)

My favorite sugar fix sources come in two varieties. Not necessarily in
order , 1. Those candies from vermont shaped like maple leaves and
earthy things made out of maple syrup, brown sugar, and butter, those
are the only three ingredients. The ultimate sugar high. 2. the
swirled white and milk chocolate candies shaped like seashells, I think
they are french but you can get them all over pretty easily. The
creamiest chocolate fix I've ever had!!!!

Well, I gotta say, my favorite is DONUTS!!! All kinds except lemon
    filled.

I get the best of all worlds with donuts: fat, cholestoral, and sugar!!
That, with regular exercise, I can keep the same level of fat on my
body for years; no more, no less!!

I also love dark chocolate, pecan pie, and toll house cookies. Pecan
pie is sooo easy to make: corn syrup, sugar, vanilla, butter, pecans,
pie crust. One hour in the oven!!

Reese's peanut butter cups. A lot of people like these, don't they? Must

Chocolate-chip cookies.

    Flake!! Alright.

But now I'll have to head into downtown Nashua for a Flake fix (the
store that sells British stuff usually has them). There is (or maybe
was) a chocolate coated Flake that is also 'pretty good' (doesn't
disintegrate as much when you bite it).

Another fave is 'Tim Tams' (these are from Australia). Two chocolate
cookies around a chocolate center, covered in chocolate (do you detect
a trend here?). Best served chilled.

For future reference, attached below are the previous results of our famous
Skittle-off, along with the Revised Good 'n' Frooty scale.

Today, we've rated Pixie stix; here are the results...

		Fog Lisa Comments

Blue 4 3 Nice tounge stain!
Purple 5 5 Frootarific!
Orange 5 5 Sweet-tart-like!
Green 2 4 "Wimpy" (Comment by Dave Levy)

Since we both thought purple and orange were each the best, we tried mixing
them. It doesn't make for a good combo, since the puple overwhelms the orange,
leaving a disappointing chalkiness (blech).

We did encounter a half-pint Good-n-Frooti, but I would'nt really call that a

    No - runts aren't good-n-fruitys. They're sweet-tart kinda candy
coated with hard stuff. They're in the shapes of fruits they're
supposed to taste like - banana, cherry, strawberry, lime, orange.
Willy Wonka makes them, along with everlasting gobstoppers.
There's a candy store in the peasant lane mall that sells them bulk.

Atomic fireballs are good too - the best are the genuine Ferrara Pan
brand. Usually the big ones are hotter than the small ones.

Lately I think I prefer the new PeanutButter Snicker bars to the old
standard. Though freshman year in college I'd walk a good distance
to find a machine with a snickers in it. Snickers and a carton of
chocolate milk. Sigh.... I've since passed on to many other
    addicitions. ;-)

Some Margueritas have more sugar than any handful o' candy bars. My new
favorite: "The Wave", a thickly blended frozen marguerita poured into a frozen
glass mug at the same time with sangria while twirling the glass, leaving a
candy-cane pattern in the mug.

Fruit Roll-ups. Blechh!!! Nothing like the shoe leather of my youth. These are
similar, but there are two important differences...

o	Fruit Roll-ups come in sheets with are perferated with patterns, some
quite labyrinthine; their only redeeming factor.

o	They don't melt in your mouth at all. In fact, they stick to
everything, even the roof of your mouth. They would more aptly
	be called shoe glue.

I walked over to the vending machine a little while ago, intent on feasting on
some delightful candy bar, when I spotted, much to my surprise a Hershey's
with almonds. Elated, I reached into my pocked and pulled out a rumpled dollar
bill and stuffed it (facing correctly) into the slot...it spat back out. No
problem. I reached into my pocket and fumbled around for change, only to find
$.45...a nickel short of the required half a buck. Fearing that were I to
venture downstairs for change (my colleagues were nowhere to be found) I would
return and find the object of my desire gone, snatched by another salivating
snack seeker, I took that rumpled dollar bill and smoothed it out and carefully
slipped it into the slot which was waiting eagerly to deny me my treat..it spat
it back out, snickering with delight. Unruffled I smoothed that sucker out once
again and carefully (painfully so) slipped it into the machine, my hand waiting
for the certain rejection of the rumpled greenback..BUT much to my delight, it
slipped out of sight, followed by the kerplunking of 2 quarters into the change
receptacle..ahah! I exclaimed, anticipating the joy of biting into that choco-
late/almond delight. And, a bonus! There was another, that had been hiding
behind the original bar! I retrieved the 50 cents from my pocket and plunked
it into the machine, watched as the candy bar tumbled to the bottom awaiting
 my grasp..

I ate the first one right away...and left the other one for a later snack..
an event which transpired just moments ago...

A delightful end to a rather crazy day...
