116.0. "Fire!! Fire!!" by LEDS::MRNGDU::YETTO (child of countless dreams) Thu Feb 07 1991 11:18

This is inspired from a commercial type thing I saw on TNT last night whilst
watching Bugs Bunny (the news just doesn't cut it these days). It is something
like the 10 albums on a desert island type thing;

If you woke up to find your house burning what would you take with you?

When I was younger (so much younger than today) :-) I was afraid of
thunderstorms at night because I thought my house might catch fire. Once I got
over it to the point that I would actually sleep in my own bed I still took a
bunch of things to bed with me to make me feel better.  These included;

	- my dog's leach (because I woudn't want her to get frightened and
	  run away!!)

	- my gerbil cage, complete with gerbils (because they couldn't
	  leave on thier own)

	- any other pets I had at the time except the fish tank which I wouldn't
	  be able to carry. :-)

	- my flute, once I started playing of course

and of course, I was fully clothed, minus the shoes which were next to the
  dog leach.

Nowadays I am a little more reasonable. I don't sleep fully clothed and I
wouldn't sleep with a dog leach or gerbils, mostly because I don't have a dog
or gerbils. :-) Actually, things haven't changed too much. I thought about
this last night and here is probably what I would grab;

	- the cat's travel boxes (in case they got frightened and tried to
run I'd be able to contain them). I have leach's for them but they
don't really like them (although I'd bring them anyway).....

	- my pocketbook, car keys and coat (this is the adult in me I s'pose)

	- my camera, so I could take pictures of the fire :-) ("Look, and that
is when everything I owned burned to the ground")

Of course if I could I'd take my stereo, all my tapes, records and CDs but I
was thinking realistically here. :-)

What would you grab??

I would grab my son and my wife (if she couldn't move under her own power.)

Because those are the only things in this world that *REALLY* matter to me.
Everything else can be replaced one way or another.

I cannot say that I am the least bit suprised but it still
warms my heart to see that everyone, without thought, would
assure the safety of all living creatures under thier roof.
Heck, if I could I'd let my fish free!! :-)

RE a few back, I think it was Tracy ... That's beautiful!
That would be a simple choice to me as well if I were living
with my Mom .... there is no living being in this world more
important to me than that woman!

See Lisa...I'm not the only one!

Since my kids don't live with me and I don't have a wife or cats and
my mother lives in California, I'd grab as many Dead and other tapes
that I could. Maybe a few books and old photos.

And Bart if he were around ;^)

I'd get everything alive out the door and then grab the photogiraffes
and probably some armfuls of clothes for the next day. If there was time
maybe a few memorablia items.

Reminds me of a true story:

several years ago, about 1975, a house fire broke out in the
neighborhood in K.C. where I grew up. The fire department and
police and all were there. The husband had gotten mildly injured and
left in an ambulance adn the wife and I believe two children got in
their car and went to the hosbital to see if he was alright.
When the fire was out and the firemen were going through the house
checking stuff they find a large walkin closet stacked to the ceiling
wall to wall with tightly packed bundles of pot that the people had
put into the trash compactor and made into neat little bricks. When
the police went to the hospital the man had checked out with his family
and last I'd heard, about a year afterwards nobody ever did find out where
they went to.

We'd have to get our cats, first. All seven of them. Some of them weighing
over fifteen pounds. Lydia believes putting a cat outdoors in Nashua is
equivalent to a death sentence, so they'd all need to be put in pillowcases
or something, and brought out to our vehicles.

We've got all our non-dead valuables locked up in small fireboxes, so I'd grab
those ...

My question is: What would Arthur Brown do?

why he had a hit with his band "the crazy world of arthur brown"
back sometime around late 60's or very early 70's.

This is spoken in a Satan-like voice, too. There is also organ accompaniment
in the beginning, then it turns to horns (mega-horns is right!)

Now I understand why this Arthur Brown dude became part of this conversation!

Thanx. I remember that tune. It's one of those teenage memories I
could really do without, but it got so over-played that it's been
permanently tatooed to specific cerebral neurons and there's nothing I
can do about it. You know, right in there with the original versions of
'Gloria', 'Free Bird', 'Stairway to Heaven', and 'Monster Mash'.

Didja ever notice certain tunes evoke very specific reactions, either
good or bad? That's one of them. Nausea. :-) :-) :-)

a highschool teacher.

A friend of mine was under the influence of a certain substance one night
when Arthur Brown was playing at the Fillmore..AB came running on stage with
fire around his head and my friend jumped up, started screaming and ran out
of the place...they found him later sitting on the sidewalk shaking his head
and mumbling to himself ;^)

for those in the area...

Subj:	Fire Victims

A woman, Terri Williams, and her four small children recently lost
everything they owned in an apartment fire. They have contacted
several charitable organizations, but they can only offer
shelter for one or two nights after the fire.

They are in need of household items (pots, pans, dishes, baby items,
toys, etc.) and clothes. Terri wears a size 10. She has a 1 yr. old boy
(size 2T), a 2 1/2 yr. old girl (size 3T), a 4 year old boy (size 5)
and a 7 yr. old girl (size reg. 8).

I am trying to help this family, and any donations would be greatly
appreciated. Please bring them into work. If that is not
convenient, I may be able to arrange to have things picked up. I can be
contacted at DTN - 226-7205 and I am located at LKG1-3/L12.

Thank You,
Teresa Honkala
