15.0. "GDTS Mail Order Instructions and Questions" by BIODTL::FERGUSON (Obscured by Clouds) Thu Jan 10 1991 16:38

This topic is reserved for Mail Order instructions and
questions on how to do mail order ONLY.

Mail order announcements should go in topic 17.

Who mail ordered for what shows should be discussed
	in topic 21.

The first reply is the general mail order instructions,
from the old grateful dead notes file, topic 527.

	Keep digressions very minimal.

GRATEFUL DEAD TICKET SALES - MAIL ORDER INSTRUCTIONS

                                Revised May 26, 1988

PLEASE SEND YOUR FUTURE ORDERS IN A #10 SIZED ENVELOPE, MAKE SURE THAT YOUR
RETURN NAME AND ADDRESS AND CONCERT DATES AND HOW MANY TICKETS TO EACH
CONCERT YOU WANT ARE ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR ORDER TO US!!! INCLUDE THE
    FOLLOWING;

1) A 3 x 5 index card - NOT PAPER!, any other size will not fit in our files
and may get lost. On this 3 x 5 card write in the upper left hand corner your
full name, address, area code and phone number. (Phone numbers are important in
case your tickets are returned to us by the Post Office or there is some other
problem.) In the middle of the card put your ticket request by preference -
"ANYTHING AVAILABLE" as your last preference is the best way to insure that you
get something instead of nothing. For example if we are offering both reserved
and general admission tickets, listing "Anything" will insure that you get
something. Not listing "Anything" means that if we sell out of reserved, you
won't receive anything. For multiple concerts in one facility, listing
"Anything" means that you will accept any ticket/tickets to any of the concerts
in that facility.

2) Include a POSTAL MONEY ORDER or an AMERICAN EXPRESS MONEY ORDER made payable
to: GRATEFUL DEAD TICKET SALES - (CONCERT NAME) for the exact amount
neccessary. NO OTHER MONEY ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED!! Make sure your name and
address are on the money order. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT!! If your order is not
filled your payment will be returned to you. NO PERSONAL CHECKS AND NO CASH!!
EVER!!

3) Also include a #10 sized self-addressed, stamped envelope for your tickets.
PLEASE do not decorate your return envelope with Grateful Dead art or mention
of tickets, it only invites theft. (For example: Tickets! Handle with care.)
We do love and display the artistic and colorful incoming order envelopes!!

4) One order per envelope and one order per person. Each person must fill out
their own order. Duplicate orders of any kind will cause disqualification of
all involved orders. (Which means: If we announce 3 concerts in the same city,
you may order the maximum number of tickets to all 3 concerts in one envelope,
unless we state otherwise. Mixed orders or orders for more than one city in one
envelope will not be accepted.

5) All orders will be filled on a "first come, first served" basis by date
postmark, NOT by when we reveive them. NO METERED MAIL, EXPRESS MAIL, OR
FEDERAL EXPRESS ACCEPTED, ETC.!! (Express mail and Federal Express will never
be accepted and are a waste of your money!!) If we decide to do a random
selection mail order we will announce it on the hotline before-hand. (If we
receive more mail postmarked the first day than we have tickets for, then the
mail order automatically becomes a "random selection" mail order from orders
postmarked the first date.)

6) You may have your tickets sent to you by registered mail by adding $6.00 to
your money order, do not add extra postage to your envelope. Remember,
registration does not include postage, so don't forget to put regular postage
on your S.A.S.E.

7) The mail order hotline (415 457-8457) will give the correct information and
address to mail for tickets. Do not use any other address or your request will
not be filled!! If the hotline instructions are different from the above then
always follow the hotline instructions or your order may be cancelled. Please
write to us with any suggestions, problems, praise or complaints at: Grateful
Dead Ticket Sales P.O. Box 9812 San Rafael, CA 94912

DO NOT SEND ANY TICKET REQUESTS TO THE ABOVE ADDRESS, THEY WILL NOT BE FILLED!!

Hotlines: California 415-457-6388 - East Coast 201-488-9393 - Mail Order
415-457-8457For mail order problems: 415-457-8034. (Semi-normal office hours
are Monday - Friday 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM Califirnia time, usually only after a
mailing.)

THANK YOU and STAY IN TOUCH!!!

	================================================================

	How to Order

	 1. Decide which shows/dates you want to see

	 2. Fill out a 3x5 index card for each location as follows:

	   +-----------------------------------------------------+
Your name
Street
City State Zip
Phone #

        Which shows, how many tix,price,ANYTHING
          or series 4 tix max/show

	   +-----------------------------------------------------+

For example, my request for Boston Series 1
	    will look like this:

	   +-----------------------------------------------------+
CHRIS FIELDS
45 Maynard st #2
Westboro Ma. 01581
home:508/xxx-yyyy
work:508/841-6205
                    SERIES 1
           Boston Garden, Boston "ANYTHING"
              SEPT. 20 - 2 TIX -$52.00
	   SEPT. 21 - 2 TIX -$52.00
	   SEPT. 22 - 2 TIX -$52.00
               REG. MAIL FEE -$ 6.25
                             ----------
                               $162.25
	   +-----------------------------------------------------+

Use ONLY an official, bought at the store 3x5 index card! DO
NOT use a piece paper that you have cut to size.

Make out one card for each city in which you want to see a
	    show.

The "ANYTHING" tells GDTS that you'll take any tickets available.
Write "TAPER" if you want taper tickets. Write "NOT BEHIND
STAGE" if you'd rather stay home than get behind-the-stage tickets.

	 3. Make out a stamped self addressed envelope(s).

Use ONLY a #10, legal sized envelope.

	    Add $.29 postage for 1 - 8 tickets
	    Add $.52 postage for 9 -16 tickets
One return envelope for each ticket request.

	 4. Make out the envelope(s) in which to mail the order(s).

Use ONLY a #10, legal size envelope.

	    Address it to:

Grateful Dead Ticket Sales - Name of city
		Box C-S 8150
		San Rafael, California 94912

On the outside of the envelope, write how many tickets to
	    what dates you are requesting.

For example, for the order above I would label the envelope
	    as follows:

	+---------------------------------------------------------------+
Fields +-----+
	|Maynard st #2					         |$.29 ||
	|Westboro Ma. 01581					 |     ||
                                                       +-----+

Grateful Dead Ticket Sales - Boston series 1
            Box C-S 8150
            San Rafael CA 94912

Boston Garden, Boston Ma. Series 1
Sept. 20 - 2 tickets
Sept. 21 - 2 tickets
Sept. 22 - 2 tickets
	+---------------------------------------------------------------+

I would probably also write the requested dates on the back
	    of the envelope also.

	 5. On Monday July 15th, (and NOT before, and hopefully on that
day), go to the Post Office with cash and buy a Postal money
order for the EXACT amount of the order.

Write the money order out to GDTS-Name of City:

Grateful Dead Ticket Sales - Boston Garden Series 1

	 6. Put the SASE, the money order, and the 3x5 card in the
envelope addressed to GDTS and seal it up.

	 7. Say your favorite incantation of your favorite Deity wishing
that your envelope be blessed and chosen in the mail order.

	 8. Take the envelope to the service counter of the Post Office,
request that it be hand cancelled with that day's date (and I
repeat, which cannot be earlier than JULY 15TH and for best
chances of getting tickets, should be that day). Check the
envelope yourself to make sure the clerk post marked it with
	    the correct date.

	 9. Put the envelope in the outgoing mail.

	10. Invoke your favorite Deity again.

	11. Wait impatiently.

	Important Information

	 1. GDTS (= Grateful Dead Ticket Sales) goes only by the date of
the postmark. AM or PM does not matter.

	 2. No Express Mail will be accepted!
No Federal Express will be accepted!
No metered mail will be accepted.
Only good ole' First Class U.S. Mail with a stamp on the envelope.

	 3. Postmarks before JULY 15TH WILL NOT be accepted

	 4. No cash will be accepted.
No personal checks will be accepted.
No gold coins will be accepted.
The ONLY forms of payment that will be accepted are
	    Postal money orders and
	    American Express money orders.

	 5. Limit of 4 tickets per show.

	 6. Tickets will be returned via regular mail. The fee for
registered mail must be added to the ticket price.

	 7. You can request that the tickets be returned by registered mail.
If you want this, add $6.25 to your Money Order.
(like I did in my example)

DO NOT mix different cities or series in the same envelope.
A single envelope containing an order for both New York and Boston
	    will be rejected.
