52.0. "A Note of Thanks!!" by LEDS::MRNGDU::YETTO (child of countless dreams) Wed Jan 09 1991 19:19

2 words I have not found the DECHeads to be shy to use are THANK YOU! :-)

We all have things to be thankful for, whether in a general sense
or specifically regarding the tapes we just got in the mail, or a
good time we shared with friends, just as two examples.

If there is someone you wish to publicly thank in print, here is the note
in which to do it.......

The keyword THANK_YOU has been added to this note.

Alright! I've been anxiously awaiting that grade (as if it was me taking

it *was* me taking the class! :-))

Thanks to Dan Harrington! I least I guess it was Dan who dropped off
the book "Three Days On a River In A Red Canoe" in my cube, as there
is a 'Harrington' name written inside. I'm not sure it will help
Hannah, but I'll see if she's interested in reading it tonight.
Well, I'll be reading it to her, as she's a bit young for that.
But she is starting to read and spell, so it won't be too long.

And Jay, thanks for your advice too. It seems to just be a somewhat
irrational fear at the moment. She was about to step out of the
canoe at some points in our little outing, and we were not at
all near the shore! We'll just let her take it at her own pace,
and hopefully she'll outgrow it at some point.

    Thanks again,
    PeterT

And apologies to you, Peter, for not even leaving a note or anything...I
was up in ZKO last week for a meeting, and having read your note about
Hannah's fear-of-canoes I thought the Three Days book might help...my
kids love it! Anyhow, after stopping by a couple of times I recalled
that you work at home some days, and I meant to drop an e-mail, and
and and and...oh well. Hope it helps!

Dan

P.S. You might also let her play in the canoe sitting in the back
yard...just fantasy play, or perhaps doing some casting (right, rfb? :-).
52.850and our canoe is red too...QUARRY::petertrigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertaintyThu May 02 1996 21:0517
Well, I read her the book last week. She seemed to enjoy it, so I asked
her at the end,

"So, do you think you'd like to do that some day?"
The look on her face!! I had to keep myself from laughing out loud.

I don't think she'll be venturing forth anytime soon. She went on
a trip with her Brownie troop to Plimouth Plantation this past
weekend, including a tour around the Mayflower 2. She was a bit
afraid to get on the ship, but once on, found it didn't
rock, so she was ok. I'll just have to give it some time.

I'll try the playing in the backyard type thing, though I
tried a bit of it last year with no success. Frankly, I wish
she would take up swimming lessons again too. Maybe this summer.

thanks to Jeff for the "mixed up tree"...a very nice
	assortment of music!

the 1st one I listened to was the Valentines in Japan...
after all the ugly rumors last fall that Henry Kaiser was
under consideration to take over lead guitar for the Dead,
and having never heard him, I was anxious to hear this band.

	my opinions:
good move to end the Dead, I think, no way could anyone ever,
ever, -ever- replace Jerry...brought home all the more hearing
Kaiser playing his parts on these familiar songs...good job but...
	it ain't the Dead
however, I would like to hear Weir play with this electric
band sometime - nice to hear him do these tunes, and it would
be a damn shame if we didn't hear him do these songs anymore...
along with some others...like Estimated, Other One, Cassidy,
	Jack Straw, and and...
	nice job on Playin'!

2nd tape from this assortment I listened to was the Dylan show
in Worcester - brought back some great memories of being 10 feet
away from him as I heard him do those last half dozen songs :-)

listened to the Jerry/Grisman/Tony Rice tape last...some fine
music, indeed, just guess I was oriented towards the future and
future possibilities...left the past for last :-(

	thanks again Jeff,
	Debess

no!!!! emphatically NO! when in doubt...TWIRL!!!!! The only time i ever
saw Vegas security get nasty was with a rather large guy right up
front by the stage who insisted on moshing. after the 3rd time,

For those who missed the friday night show at GW, it was
(as the Telegram put it) staggering. An amazing Saint Steven
jam and a great Franklins -> Blue sky. During Nobody LEft to
Run With they were flashing pictures of Duane and Berry Oakley
then they started flashing pictures of Jerry, then Hendrix
and John Jennon. It was really touching. If you get a chance

I have to extend a grateful Thank You to Wes Ostiguy for assiting
me in getting our boat off the water. The hurricane probably wont
hit us directly, but there should be enough stormage to make having
the boat out of the water worthwhile. It was an interesting venture
and took longer than I had hoped, but I get better at this each
time and hopefully I won't forget the same things next time.

We also got to listen to our Favorite Disco hits from the
seventies which increased the entertainment significantly.

a big THANK YOU!!!! to the folks who came out and supported
Rockin' for Christina : A Celebration of Life at the shrewsbury
sportsman's club saturday!!!!!

Christina's Mom and Step-Dad have asked me to convey their
thanks and appreciation... Chriso commented to me afterward
that it was probably the first time everyone came together around
Christina and her illness in an event that was all smiles, hugs and
good feelings... "this was a really cool thing... everybody got it right...
she would have appreciated that..." :^)

the people to thank are Bruce Mandaro for coming out and doing
a monster solo set with a couple of jams with Mark Robichaud on
bass...

also Paul Della Valle, columnist for Worcester Magazine who did a
set of mostly original material which was pretty cool stuff...

the other members of CtW...

Mark Robichaud for filling in on bass guitar while Steve, our normal
bass man, is out sick... (some of you may know Mark as the former bassist
for "She's Busy")...

Worcester Magazine for their support...  including Peter Stanton, publisher;
Walter Crockett and Charlene Arsenault; columnists...

the Shrewsbury Sportsman's Club for letting us use thier space for free...

Steve Davis of Performance Audio of New England for doing sound...

and last, but certainly not least, to all of you folks who came out or sent in
donations!!!!

and for all of you who think Chris LeBlanc to be just another mouthy, self-centered
gen Xer, i just cashed the papers that prove otherwise! :^) and rfb and Patty win
the long-distance donation contest! first prize, many thanks... :^) Josh Belkin wins
the "i packed the most into my day" award for going hiking in the whites and driving
all the way back for the party that evening!!! i dunno how you did it dude... i would
have been napping instead of bopping if i were in your berks... :^)

thanks so much to /bruce for making a copy of the VH1 American Beauty
special - that show was a treat!

I -loved- all the old home movies that were sprinkled throughout -
the guys at motels fooling around, the Columbia student strike,
riding on buses between gigs, Haight/Ashbury scenes. Totally cool
little glimpses of those daze.

Those scenes in the studio where they were listening to the cuts
off the albums - commenting, or visibly moved by what they were
hearing - priceless! Phil especially, during _Box of Rain_.
Hunter wrote the lyrics for Phil, while Phil was dealing with
his father dying, and you could see that he is still moved by
the memory.

their decision to focus on the vocals, cutting back on emphasis on
the instruments, coinciding with Hunter writing these classics,
seemingly to get out something without taking so long as their
last few albums (just loved hearing Garcia chuckle over this -
man, how I would have loved to have had a giggly conversation
with him!).

did anyone mention here yet how Hunter, inspired by at last being in
the city of his dreams (London), he sat down in an afternoon and
wrote _Ripple_, _To Lay Me Down_ AND _Brokedown Palace_ ...IN ONE
AFTERNOON!

good show!

ya, I screwed up 3 different times this weekend trying to tape
this...fortunately Hoot was successful....but did manage to catch the
same parts over and over again. What I did catch was priceless. Hard to
imagine Phil as being the difficult one in those days (well, I guess if
you read what Cutler and Dick L. have to say about Phil, maybe it isn't)

but Phil's statement "COntrary to popular belief, I learned manners
from my Gradmother and my Mom, I just didn't show them to Warner Bros."
(or something like that) was a classic.

I don't know MJ, cause I myself am VH1-challenged (as someone said
to me!) What is VH1 - is it a cable station? I naively thought
that if you subscribed to these cable things - do you? I don't know -
but I thought if you paid for that, then there would be no commercials.
Hah! There were so many commercials on this thing I bet they took
up a quarter of the hour, at least. Hunter said it was produced by
the BBC, not VH1, so didn't someone here last week say that the
show might actually be a full hour? I'd like to see more!!!

I caught some of the Hendrix one Friday night, the total clock time
was about one hour, 20 minutes... the reruns all seemed to be one
hour, so they must have two versions available for broadcasting...
just gotta watch the schedules, I guess... might also help to hammer
them with mail, both e- and otherwise.

    check VH1 schedules at http//www.vh1.com/

last time I checked, they were still updating the new schedule...

Debess.. I have no clue about vh1 either - I assume it is a cable thing
because it's channel 19 at my house... If it's not 4,5,or7 I assume
    it's cable! ;-)

I really loved the show though and NEED to tape it!
