The first Peter Cassidy Timed Mile (PCTM) in 1997! The track
was soft and the temperature was mild. Bob and Bob ran neck
and neck until the last lap when Bob ran ahead of Bob.
Meanwhile, Dave and Al were doing 1/2 mile repeats and did not
run their timed mile until later at a pace faster than Bob and
Bob. However, since the place order is listed by who crosses
the finish line first, even though their times are the fastest
of the year, Dave and Al are in last place in points.
We will have the PCTM every Tuesday at 12:15 pm, weather and
track condition permitting. (We don't call it because of heat
or cold - but do for mud to prevent damage to the dirt track.)
Where? On the Maynard High School track at the intersection of
Routes 117 and 27. We welcome runners of all abilities: slow
or fast, female or male, old or young, short or tall, fat or
skinny.
(If you are not sure whether we will run the mile due to
weather conditions, call Bob Hellweg at 223-2554
CONSLT::HELLWEG before 11:30 on Tuesday.)

Eight hearty runners braved the blizzard of 1997 to run the
PCTM - luckily the snow stopped just before the timed mile
began. All eight ran outstanding times! However, DRC
president Brad was disappointed in not having run a sub four
minute mile, but considering the condition of the track (over
two feet of heavy snow) he shouldn't be too disappointed with
his time. Former DRC president Kevin thought he could have
broken four minutes if he had worn the proper shoes. Terri and
Rhoda shattered the female records for fastest female times,
and both were ebullient. Dave and Al ran together until near
the finish when Al got stuck in a snow drift. As usual, Bob
and Bob had the slowest times - however, they'll take them.
