    I was just about to scrapp 4 module when 2 more came in from the field.

    Up till now we received 6 modules (lynx backplanes) with the same
    problem.
    The problem is not eisa related. PCI also showes some problems. Also
    it is not ev5 related. With an ev4 you have to look very closely to
    see the the problems. Most times it looks ok. For example the latest
    2 module seem to work fine in vms windows with an ev4. But with an
    ev5 the vga screen frezes up (no keyboard or mouse action) 2-3 minutes
    after login.
    You can login at the serial port an run some tests after vga freezed
    up.

    Can someone explane this trange behaviour ???

    PS: I used different memory, cpu and graphics card with same result.
        I also tried firmware V47_GLUPDATE

2451.5Help.. Same symtoms after 2100A Upgrade..CGOWGS::GIBBJohn Gibb Canadian Multi Vendor SupportWed Feb 12 1997 01:4525
    Howdy,

    Glad to see other engineers seeing this problem. We just did a 2100a
    upgrade with no problems except for video problems outlined in .1. Even
    unix is booted, xwindows doesn't come up. We have a Qvision card and we
    are going to try a s3 trio to see if this has any effect on the
    problem.

    The customer mentioned that they recieved a new 2100a with a ev4 275
    cpu and had allot of problems with the video. The problem has
    disappeared but even once and awhile the system crashes when they use
    the video console. Not sure if this is related.

    The above config is a ev4 275 cpu..

    Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated..

    BTW.. we have tried both firmware from V3.6 and V3.8 cd's and also ECU
    V1.9 and V1.10..

    Thanks

    I have contacted Kanata MFG a will send them some sample modules
    to put through their stg1 and 2 process.

    Stay tuned..it may take a while..

2451.7Another upgrade with video problemsSCASS1::TURNERGWed Feb 19 1997 16:048
    Well add another upgrade to this list, I just did a 2100 5/250 to a
    2100a 5/250 the system and it had a ATI MACH 64 ISA card for video
    when we ran arc we would get missing character and horizontal dashes
    on the screen. When we would boot up VMS 7.1 it takes forever to log
    on and the screen is srambled. I've tried a Q-vision eisa card and a
    Number 9 Trio64/Trio32 pci video card all with similiar. Is this a
    backplane problem are these cards not supported on 2100A. What card
    should they be using.
2451.82 more backplanesJGO::POLFLIETThu Feb 20 1997 11:4060
    Today we received 3 field return modules of wich 2 showed the screen
    problems with an EV5 cpu (5/250).

    The first one when moving the window around in vms leaves the window
    outlines on the screen, so your screen fills up with horizontale and
    vertical lines.

    On the second one the screen (vms) freezes up a few minutes after
    login. Don't know if this is of any use but looking in
    DECW$SERVER_0_ERROR.LOG I saw the following (used the serial port, this
    still works):

2451.9Replacing backplane fixed video problemSCASS1::TURNERGFri Feb 28 1997 14:135
    I just replaced a 54-24129-01 yesterday because of video problem.
    The Rev of the board is a E01 serial number is ka648sydsy. I put
    the new backplane in and video worked fine. One thing I noticed
    that was when this when this backplane was installed the board was
    in EV4 mode out of the box.
2451.10power??JGO::POLFLIETWed May 28 1997 11:3811

    Not sure about this but it looks like that some backplanes are
    sensetive to a bad +5V, measured on the backplane.
    If the +5V is more than +5.15V (approx) you will see the symptomes as
    described in the previous replies.
    So before replacing the backplane check your +5V measured on the backplane.

    If I am wright you will have to decide wether to replace the backplane
    or to replace the power.

    Martin.
