Last night I did a test on out AlphaServer 2100A 5/300 that is running
console version 4.7-157 (off the V3.8 CD). I set the FSL update enable
switch to off and tried to do a UPDATE_FSL from the UPD> prompt or an
UPDATE_FSL from the >>> . In both cases it hung after the following
output.
FEPROM UPDATE UTILITY
-----> CAUTION <-----
EXECUTING THIS PROGRAM WILL CHANGE YOUR CURRENT ROM!
Do you really want to continue [Y/N] ? : y
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INTERRUPT PROGRAM EXECUTION!
DOING SO MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF OPERABLE STATE.
The program will take at most several minutes.
Setting to all 0's...
At this point it hangs. If I then init and set it to use the failsafe
loader it works fine. The FSL does NOT get corrupted as it did on the
2100 5/200 cpu in the base note using the V3.6 firmware cd.
Is this a function of the 2100A or of a fix in the console firmware
routines that prevent the FSL corruption if you attempt to update the
FSL when the jumper isn't in the update position?
Nice that it doesn't corrupt anything.
