1075.0. "UCX or tcp third party??" by MUNICH::REIN (It's not Burgundy, it's Bordeaux!!) Mon Apr 22 1996 14:21

    Hallo,

    A customer has a third party tcp product running called tcpware.

    On installation of scheduler 2.1b he always get the message, that ucx
    is not running on the system and the installation failed.

    Is UCX a "have to" or is a workaround available?

    regards

1075.1UCX is used for socket communication for TCP/IP on OpenVMSMUZICK::MORIARTYMon Apr 22 1996 16:139

    The installation for the Server or the Agent. The Server
    should not fail but will not provide the ability to communicate
    to remote executor. The VMS Agent will fail at installation
    time because it needs to link with the UCX shareable image
    (or object library - depending on VAX or AXP). The VMS Agent
    like the Server uses UCX explicitly for socket calls.

Let me understand the TCP/IP requirement. If my customer who is running TGV
TCP/IP, wants to upgrade to Scheduler 3.0. Must they buy Digital TCP/IP
Services (UCX) for all the VAX nodes running the 2.1 OpenVMS agents? The SPD
just states TCP/IP.

We will support any tcp/ip tha Digitals DCE V1.3 RPCD works with.
