799.0. "Which version for OpenVMS AXP V7.0 ??" by COPCLU::JORN (New European Champions...) Tue Mar 04 1997 06:45

Hi there,

I have a problem with a customer, that recently updated to OpenVMS AXP V7.0.
He was running OSDS V3.3, and after the upgrade he got the "device driver dpt
consistency check" error.

I asked him to try to upgrade to V3.4, but this version will not install on
version V7.0 of VMS -- installation procedure aborts telling me V6.2 is the
only version this kit will install on.

However, looking through KITINSTAL.COM for OSDS V3.4:

$! For this special release make sure the kit does not install for if
$! VMS version is anything other than 6.2 or 7.0
$!
$       IF VMS_VERSION .EQS. "062" THEN GOTO VERSION_OK
$       VMI$CALLBACK MESSAGE E BADVMSVER -
  "This kit must be installed on OpenVMS/AXP version 6.2 only "
$       KIT_STATUS = 0
$       RETURN 1

This looks strange: The comment says we will install on V6.2 & 7.0, - but only
checks for V6.2 ?? Is this a bug ? Which OSDS-kit is supported for V7.0 ?

If this is a bug, and the kit is meant to be installed on V7.0 as well as V6.2 -
is it OK to edit the KITINSTAL.COM to reflect this ?

Cheers,
Jorn

    Jorn,

    The kit will not work on VMS 7.0. It was an oversight on my part
    for leaving the text "special" and "or 7.0" in that comment.

    The is no kit that supports the use of OSDS with OpenVMS V7.0.

    Ok,

    I guess it's not OK to edit KITINSTAL then, can you give an estimate on
    when a kit for V7.0/V7.1 will be available ??

    Jorn.
