789.0. "CSC Colorado's role w nondec" by CSC32::R_ROBERTSON () Wed Feb 19 1997 16:08
There is a product plan in Tima for hardware support of
US Design's optical products that says the CSC will provide
hardware support on those products. US Design does not
provide hardware support and if the customer has a hardware
contract with us refering them or the field to US Design
is not correct. Also a lot of the US Design jukeboxes are
at mission critical sites, they usually went with US Design
for one of two reasons either they wanted 12" worm support or
they wanted to use Worm on alpha's. At these mission critical
sites in particular the CSC interfaces with the customer and
US Design to determine if the problem is ours or their's in
situations where it is not clear also in many hardware situations
we need to use the US Design utilities to help id a hardware
problem. FYI at one time the CSC used to provide software support
on US Design's optical products by a Digital agreement that
agreement has lapsed and we do not support their software.
Basically the same thing is true for Alphatronics optical
products. NKK corporation is out of business if those jukeboxes
are still under hardware contract where are you going to get parts
from? The CSC Colorado will provide a best effort on any optical
product that is under hardware contract with Digital. Logging
a call is how you get that help we dot not read this notes file
every day and the folks I refer to as optical engineering are
there for Digital products only and hopefully for general theory
questions on "new technology thingies".
